Poured from 12oz bottle into a tulip.

Appearance: rich, dark, murky brown hue with a finger of creamy tan foam atop. A very attractive beer indeed!

Smell: very malty aroma with a lot of bourbon character. The bourbon brings with it some vanilla, which works well. I like it, even if it does feel a bit sweet.

Taste: quite sweet, with plenty of barrel character of vanilla and oak. The bourbon comes through big time in this one. For my money, it outshines the porter a little bit, which is a shame; still, it's a good bourbon-ey beer.

Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a good level of carbonation and creaminess. It's quite smooth.

Overall: I like this beer a lot. The barrel/bourbon character could probably be toned down a notch for my taste, but overall it's a very well-crafted and interesting beer. Good stuff!

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thin brown head that builds slowly, leaving good lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, bourbon, cocoa and a little graham cracker. Flavor is mild dark toasted malt, cocoa and milk chocolate and bourbon with a little vanilla tempering the lingering bourbon in the finish. Medium bodied with moderate creaminess and silky mouth feel. It's been a while since I had a moderate ABV bourbon porter or stout, but I have to say that this stands up well to its bigger siblings. The malt is non assertive, but holds up to the distinct bourbon barrel character. Nice mixed chocolate flavors add to the interest. This was a Wisconsin brewery that I have heard about for years and it's great to finally try something from them. This shows why Tyranena is so well respected. It's nice to have a porter that's not massive, but still full flavored and so well balanced. This is a pleasure to drink. I'd get this regularly if it was available here.

I usually manage to have a few of these chillin in the cellar between trade extras, stuff I buy when in Wisconsin and shit elrogish brings out from his or his Dad's Wisconsin time. This one pours black and brown, leaning slightly 60/40 black. Brown head, soft, 2/3". Aroma of mostly chocolate malt, the barrel is on the slight end of the spectrum, not a heavy presence A little bit of roasted malt.

Taste is nice because this stays true to its porter roots moreso than going into double imperial stout sludge factory territory. There is a light chocolate malt/cocao presence to it. The barrel aging is probably around the 100 day range. I can appreciate it, because in a 12oz bottle this is an easy to finish solo barrel project. Slight vanilla and caramel edge, and appropriate level of carbonation. It leans slightly sweet, but not exactly up there into dessert beer territory either.
Good price means I wouldn't hesitate dropping the cash on a 4 pack or single bottle if I saw it.

12oz bottle, served in a snifter glass. Pours a darker cola brown body, not quite pitch black; one finger thick offwhite head, good retention, medium collar, touch of lacing. Smell is bourbon, a bit of sweet milk chocolate, touch of cocoa and fudge, toasted grains, light oak, a bit of earth and touch of sweet whiskey. Flavour is quite nice; milk chocolate mixed in with moderate whiskey flavour and heat, a bit of oak, light cocoa, vanilla and a good bit of toasted malts. Nice toasted character, that isn't quite roasted if that makes sense. Mouthfeel is medium-fuller bodied, good carbonation, smooth and creamy. Mild toasted grain and cocoa bitterness on the backend. Really nice barrel aged porter; good body and base to stand up to the barrel aging, which itself imparts a really nice barrel character as well.
