Acquired from BuckeyeNation, so a big "Thank You" goes out to him. Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a deep black color with a very thin light brown head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is full of roasted malts, coffee, dark fruit, rye spice and a touch of hops.
T: The taste is very malty and sweet with flavors of rye malt, coffee, dark fruit. There's a very mild hops presence but it works very well for this beer. Despite being so sweet, it's excellently balanced. The after-taste is sweet. I'm surprised that I don't have more to say about a taste that seems to have such a good complexity to it.
M: Very smooth, medium-to-heavy body, light carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
D: Very tasty, goes down very easily, not too filling, good kick, nice representation of style with a well-done twist of rye malt, this is an excellent beer to drink for a very long time if you're looking for a poundable, flavorful and stronger-than-average dark beer.

pours reddish-brown, almost ruby. tan head. lots of lace.
definitely lots of chocolate in the nose and mouth here. oak follows in the nose, but i don't get it much in the taste. caramel and a bit of spice from the rye.
viscous and thick mouth. creamy.
mighty fine beer. this one sat for a year on the shelves and doesn't show any wear for it. kind of surprising this one made it that long, because i'd want this around all fall.
