Pours a gorgeous clear copper hue, although the head leaves a little to be desired.
Heavy vanilla and caramel in the smell as promised on the bottle along with a touch of toasted and chocolate malt. Started off a bit subdued, but picks up a little intensity with time.
Sweet caramel malt and vanilla lead the way, along with a little toast and smoke. The barrel aging rounds the edges off nicely. Although there's just a touch of alcohol noticeable, I'm really struggling to pick up the bourbon here.
Body is medium to light and carbonation is low, which works well with the light flavors.
A very polished, easy drinking wee heavy. I could easily see having 3 or 4 of these in a sitting. If you're expecting much in the way of bourbon however, this probably won't get it done for you.

From old, undated notes; poured from the bottle.
Clear orange-red color.
White head; strong lace.
Coffee, cream & caramel in the nose.
Medium thick mouthfeel.
Oak and bourbon notes join a caramel coffee taste explosion.
Normally these flavors could be quite cloying, but this is delicious. Home run.

From a 12 oz bottle to a snifter.
L - Brown tinting toward red, light head that stays for a bit.
S - Smells sweet and a bit woody.
T - oaky bourbon, with toffee at the end that's really nice.
F - Middle body, works well with this beer, which I wouldn't want to be too thick.
O - Tyranena knows how to use a barrel for a beer that's not an high ABV stout better than just about any brewery I've come across.

Murky ruby to brown in color, mostly opaque. Off white head with solid retention. Aroma is subdued but nice. Sweet malt, bourbon, oak. Flavor has more pop. Bourbon first, then notes of malt, oak, vanilla. Body is medium-full, low-moderate carbonation, and a smooth, slightly dry finish. Overall, this is a good bourbon barrel scotch ale, will definitely enjoy the four pack!

This is a really nice bourbon barrel Scotch ale. The dominant flavors are toffee, caramel, and vanilla, with some oakiness in there as well. Not very heavy on the bourbon. The feel is much lighter than some BB Scotch ales such as BWB but without being thin. A well-made and different take on the style.

Having sex in the woods is central Wisconsin’s equivalent to having sex on the beach. It sounds romantic – a return to Edan, where surrounded by flowers and birdsong, innocent pleasures bloom beneath Earth’s singular, naked moon. In reality, however, forest coitus is pretty miserable. Mosquitos, spiders and ticks attack plump and supple regions. Humans invented beds, hammocks, futons, cots and mats for a reason, as sticks, twigs, dirt, and bark grinding into one’s hands, back and buttocks will have a couple wishing for the seediest motel mattress. And every leaf crunch or branch shake becomes an approaching stranger that ruins the mood.
Tyranena’s beer thankfully doesn’t embody its namesake’s wretchedness. Before taking a sip, a sweet blend of bourbon and sugar greet the nose. Then slick mixture of vanilla, honey, peat and a tinge of smoke greats the tongue. After each swallow, bourbon haunts the mouth the way a former lover’s presence remains on your pillow long after she left you. While it could be thicker, and the malt profile has slightly coppery notes, drinking this beer is still infinitely more pleasurable than actually shagging in the woods where instead of a nice buzz, you risk a terrible case of poison ivy on your crotch.
