Had from bottle poured into cigar city snifter
pours slight head and fairly dark
smell is overpowering heavy chcolate
which the taste follows it is nice smooth
and a medium body mouthfeel not thin and not thick just a nice
representation of the style and once again it is heavy chcolate but not overly sweet
this is nice way to end the night with something good and easy drinking
would definitely get again

A: black and deep brown body, big 2 finger head, lovely lacing

S: roasted nuts, hint of cocoa nibs, oats

T: sweet chocolate, oats, mild roasted bitter finish

M: heavy body, smooth, chewy, low carbonation

D: Very nice oatmeal stout, delicious Tyranena brew. One of my favorite breweries and this is rather tasty beer. I could have more than a few. Great for the Winter months of The Great Lakes near the fireplace after dinner.

A- Pours extremely dark brown/black, when held up to the sky no light came through. Very dark, just the way I like a stout! It poured with a one finger head that lingers and leaves a coating of lacing on the side of the glass.

S- Heavy roasted malt/chocolate aroma. I do not pick up any hops aroma. Smells a bit like chocalate milk.

T- It tastes similar to the smell with a slight coffee bitterness lingering at the back of the throat.

M- Very smooth, but I was hoping it would be a little more grittier and thicker. The carbonation was also a little sharp.

D- Easy to drink and I could definitely kick back a few. I will purchase it again when I am looking for a lighter stout.

Cheers and a big thanks to Kegatron for gifting me with a bottle of this. 12oz stubby brown bottle into a tulip. The brew appears black in color with a tan cap 3 fingers strong. The cap slowly fades leaving an entire wall of lacing effect on the glass. A light swirl revives a finger back to the surface.

The smell of this brew is quite roasty with a very pleasant fresh grain quality like oats. Some mild chocolate inclusion is present along with some coffee quality. There is a little bit of an earthy touch included but overall the big focus of this aroma is roasty chocolate and fresh grain.

The taste is bitter with some roasted grain quality that is somewhat reminiscent of coffee and unsweetened chocolate. That fresh grain quality is present but hidden compared to how bold it is displayed in the aroma. A bit of earth and tobacco flavors are present mid palate with a bit of fruity alcohol like prune or raisins. It finishes bitter and roasty.

This is a medium bodied brew that is silky smooth in the feel. It is rich and quite enjoyable. The alcohol is very well incorporated here. The most excellent aspect of this brew is the fresh grainy chocolate quality captured in the aroma, I really would have liked to seen that transcended into the flavor a bit more. As-is its a nice experience and worth a try.

12 oz bottle poured into a Sprecher nonic. Bottled on 05FEB10.

A - Clear on the pour, totally black as muck in the glass. A tall off-white-sepia head of three-fingers lowered a bit too hastily but left some loose lacing.

S - The cocoa nibs add a lot to the aroma of this brew. Behind the roasted malt and rich coffee nose, a thin layer of smoke hovers lightly. No hops found here, just a deep, rich malt nose and mild oats.

T - Smooth oats and roasted malts with a touch of smoke, a sprinkle of coffee grounds, and a thin cocoa flavor. Very average.

M - Exceptionally soft and silky with a low carbonation finish. Dry and bitter from all the roasted malts. Earthy. Full bodied.

D - The mouthfeel makes this beer. Without it, it would be rather bland. The cocoa and additional flavors just seem to be a bit thin to me. It's not bad at all though. A good drinking Oatmeal.

Pretty average. Bitter unsweetened chocolate. Dry finish with not much bite or thickness.
