A rich mahogany crown adorns this jet black stout robust with toffee and dark chocolate malt flavors. Hand crafted using a blend of supreme roasted malts, delicately aged on hand-picked espresso coffee beans. Smooth and full on the palate with a roasted finish.

I got a bottle of this beer off the single shelf from a beer store located in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. It poured an opaque dark with no head and no lace. The scent had rich coffee aroma. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with bold arabian coffee flare. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

Decent stout. Taste of chocolate and a touch of coffee. A bit thin on mouthfeel. Only 6.5% so it’s pretty decent brew for that level. Near zero carbonation as well. Overall it’s drinkable but not exciting.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip pint glass. Pours dark brown with a smallish tan head. Almost no lacing. Aroma features dark roasted malts, black coffee, and a hint of earthy hops, vanilla, and bittersweet chocolate. The flavor is similar with a slight sour twang and a dry finish. Mouthfeel is moderately carbonated. Overall it's a decent coffee stout but not something I'll pick up again.

Underwhelming look with no real head to speak of. Smell is chocolate and espresso. Taste follows the nose....chocolate lovers will really like this one. Very tasty and smooth

12 oz bottle
Boiler snifter
Deep black color with some slight brown edging and a beige fingernail of head.
Aroma of chocolate licorice, slight espresso, powdered sugar, and mocha.
Flavor starts off peppery but that fades quickly and leaves room for nice chocolate raisin and espresso bean, very dark sugar, hazelnut, cream, some caramel-creme candy, and slight chocolate licorice. Dark fruit and torched sugar fades it out.
Feel has busy carbonation but that's okay, has an element of "cream" to it, some slight roasty dryness, and very mild warming alcohol.
Overall, a win. Wasn't expecting much from the reviews but this is a highly delectable coffee treat. I will buy this again and again, very good stuff. I suspect the negative reviews are from bottles that are 4+ months old, which wouldn't be out of the ordinary. (Edit : even then, after 6 months in my cellar it's still very tasty but less espresso and desserts). For its $8.99 price point, it's just an awesome barely sessionable fully flavored espresso tiramisu wonder. Definitely going to seek it out again. This might be one of those beers that only my tongue marries to. It happens for everyone, and sometimes the opposite happens as well.

Whole Hog Brewery "Cuppa Espresso Stout"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, coded "3497 B1 2259"
$2.99 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: So this is a Steven's Point beer. Is it a secondary brand of theirs, or is it just contract brewed there? Regardless, it's poured an opaque black body beneath a short head of tan foam that's already disappeared except for a minimal collar. The aroma expresses some sweetish, almost molasses-like malt with just a hint of coffee to it. Now I'm not that big of a coffee fan but I expect any coffee beer to have a stronger coffee aroma than this does. So, let's tally up, 0 for 2 at this point; things are not looking good but I'm hoping the flavor will bring home victory. ... ... Well there's a little more coffee to it, a pleasant fruity note that I really enjoy, some dark sugar notes, and a limited and supple roastiness, but I still say it falters as a coffee beer. The label states that it's "aged on coffee beans" but I'm not sure they should have wasted the money, you can pull coffee flavors stronger than this just from specialty malts. I really do love that yeasty fruitiness though, it reminds me of plums and apples and dark raisins. It's also really well balanced with a moderate bitterness that leaves just a touch of the malt lingering in the finish. I'm not picking up any hop flavors directly, although there is some leafy and tea-like character to it that might be from Goldings. In the mouth it's medium bodied and quite smooth. Unfortunately that's because of a low level carbonation which has left it with no head or lacing. That's a trade-off I guess, but I find it hard to get past as the mouthfeel could have been improved in some other way, perhaps by utilizing some wheat or oats. It's a shame because this is a really good beer, I like it, except for the appearance, but it's an almost complete failure as a coffee beer with almost no aroma and very little flavor. That subtle roastiness is superb though, it reminds me of some of the bigger Scottish ales I've tasted. Well, I've had beers like this before, they're good in the end but they just don't live up to the style.

I keep encountering so many new & different offerings, whether bottle and/or CAN at the Friendly Greek Bottle Shop (FGBS)! It is problematic in that I want to bring them all home, but now, my place looks like a warehouse. 8=( My only hope is to drink & keep drinking in the hope that I will someday catch up.
From the Bottle: "Next Level Series"; "Beer Aged on Coffee Beans".
I began, as I usually do, with a Pop! of the cap. I followed this up with a steady C-Line pour that resulted in just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, light-tan head with great retention, slowly falling away while leaving great lacing in its wake. Color was Black/Opaque (SRM = 44), allowing ZERO light penetration. Nose had an odd coffee-like aroma, but it was neither coffee nor espresso, IMHO. Instead, it was weak, like it had not had time to properly age on the beans. Personally, I HATE weak coffee! I am a retired U.S. Navy sailor & I prefer my coffee to be hot, thick & black, much like my women! Onwards. Mouthfeel was big, full & creamy. Sofa. So far, so good. The taste had an odd not-quite-coffee-like flavor that, while it meshed well with the chocolaty smokiness of the beer, I was not thinking "coffee" & certainly not "espresso". I did not find it unpleasant, but when you invoke "espresso" & mention aging on "coffee beans", you had best be bringing it, son! This was the equivalent of a handjob that did NOT finish with a happy ending. I was left feeling unfulfilled. Finish was dry and kinda bitter, but it shoulda been REALLY bitter. Sort of the same way that I feel about The ex-OldLady & this beer! YMMV.

Pours a black color with a small beige head, vanishing immediately after pouring.
Smells of an intense espresso bean appearance, with a nice amount of roast and rock sugar sweetness. Has a nice black currant fruitiness among toffee and a note of earth.
Has a lighter, sparkly mouthfeel with well balanced coffee presence.
Tastes of toffee, bakers chocolate and a slowly uprising note of licorice, bringing in the coffee. The espresso beans are equally well pronounced on the palate as they they are on the nose, with an earthy dry bite, earthen roast, hazelnuts and glazed rock sugar. Finishes with more bitter earthiness among caramel, together with a light black currant note during the ending.
Tasty, powerfull espresso beer, which definitely stands true to its name.
