Oktoberfests look pretty attractive in general, but don't vary much, and Augsburger's (or, more truthfully, the Point's) version of the style is no deviant: it's a reddish-gold color with a creamy white head, though it does have better lacing than most. Smells musty and malty, and tastes similar upfront, with a nice apple-y crispness and a good dry, bitter finish. Honestly, I was not expecting this to be very good, but it's the second-best Oktoberfest I've had this year, behind Hacker-Pschorr's.

Made in Wisconsin eh? So that's why it was in a green bottle and unskunked. Nothing terribly special here, but nothing I'd turn down. Fairly similar to Spaten's O-fest but with a creamy taste and texture. I am impressed by the similarities between this and actual imports, sure fooled me.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle to pint glass. The liquid is dark Copper with good carbonation. The head is 3 fingers light tan and rocky it leaves some lace.
The smell is typical Marzen, a nice sweet toasty caramel smell.
The taste follows only lighter. Light toasted malt, sweet caramel and smooth hopy finish
Mouthfeel is a thinner then medium body and good carbonation.
The drinkability is really good I would but this beer. It is light, tasty smooth, Just right for drinking, Prosit MK

Bright coppery orange with generous amber edges. The three finger head is somewhere between palest orange and pale ecru and looks to be too soft for its own good. It actually looks pretty decent in the end, even though it won't win any beauty contests. Or any lace contests for that matter.
The aroma is only tangentially Oktoberfest-like. It's malt dominant with very little evidence of the usual Munich malt if my nose is any judge. It's a little sweet and buttery and is only mildly hoppy. So far, I'm not overly impressed.
Augsburger is a decent enough version, but that's as far as it goes. Those who like light, fruity Oktoberfests rather than more full, malty, earthy ones will be pleased. Like the nose, it isn't what I'd call a classic version, although it is a worthwhile one I suppose. Casual drinkers will love its balanced, unchallenging flavor profile while aficionados will probably scoff at its simplicity.
The body/mouthfeel struck me as too light during the top half of the bottle. Now that I'm well into the home stretch however, things have firmed up a bit and I'm able to detect some small amount of viscosity on the finish. At least the mouthfeel is going in a positive direction as the beer warms rather than a negative one.
Augsburger Oktoberfest is an unexciting beer that, nevertheless, keeps its head up (not literally, unfortunately) and keeps fighting for respectability until the very last mouthful. I have no desire to drink it again, but I'm sure that it has its loyal followers up there in Badgerland.

Bottle provided amid a bunch of stuff given to me for volunteering at 2005 GABF. Thanks, I appreciate the opportunity to try the craft beers provided in my package. Pours a one finger light tan head over a clear copper-orange liquid. The head quickly settles to almost nothing. Smells caramel malty with some toasted grains and a hint of soured grains, too. No hops in the aroma that I can detect. Tastes dry woody with malt and toasted grain qualities. There's a little bit of cherry sour that rises late. Hops are a grassy hint in the aftertaste and don't mix with the sour very well. Altogether, not very representative of an Oktoberfest. Where's the Munich or Vienna malt character? Light body and moderately carbonated.

From the folks at Steven's Point comes this fake German beer in a green bottle.
Pours nice. Marzen amber with a cute white head that sticks around.
Smells like a mix between a slightly skunky euro pils and a very light marzen. Dull fruit and grain.
Tastes like dull fruit up front, apricots, moving into a fizzy blank seltzer middle, ending on a very smooth node of caramel. Okay.

We got clear amber in the glass, and a hefty, rocky chunk of froth atop, slowly disseminating.
In the nose, ....well, rather paltry. Bare glimmers of caramel and fruit, malt is there, as it should, but tiptoes through. Slightly sweet, ...almost unnoticeable.
Taste: Hops drizzle, then fade. Malt grows in confidence, but is rather unblustery, very lean in it's performance. Medium body, and light in character, as well.
Rolls off the tongue, then disappears. Nothing much in the finish, faint and forgettable.
Nuttin' wrong with it, just a bit too meager for me. Decent, for a cheap brand Oktoberfest.

Dark gold...pretty charged up...creamy off white head...Nose is unremarkable...some skunky notes...medium bodied....creamy mouthfeel...taste is toasted grains...finishes dry, slightly sour...Not a lot of flavor to this...
Reminds me a little of Becks O-fest....not one of my personal favorites..

Clear copper body with not much of a head. Lacing is minimal. On the nose, I get light toasted malts and a little green bottle skunk. Taste is better than the smell. The skunk is absent and the malts are more pronounced. Hops add a little balance. Body is damn near full and appropriately carbonated. Decent enough ofest.

Amber orange pour with a highly carbonated bubbly head. Fast rising carbonation flows up the glass. Nice roasty, caramel notes along with a spicy herbal hop nose.
Smooth caramel malt with some nutty tones and a nice roastiness. There's a spicy hop with a hint of residual skunkiness. Quite a nice Oktoberfest and only $2.99 a sixer to boot.
Medium bodied and smooth with good carbonation level. An easy drinking brew that I could have a few of no problem. Thanks to my dad for sharing this one!

Green bottle. This could be interesting
Clear copper body with a frothy, big-bubbled, light beige head that doesnt stick around too long.
Bright, fresh, caramel roll malt aromas dominate, with an earthy, spicy hop edge. Nice.
Taste starts out with a dab of spicy, acidic hops, but they get pushed aside sweet, cookie-dough malt. The feel is a little thin with perhaps a bit too much carbonation. Malt fades into a bittersweet, gingerbread finish. A nice, surprisingly good Oktoberfest.

Deep foliage colored full of yellow, orange, and brown. The off-white head is compact and retains well.
Aromatic of hay, caramel-glazed dry breads, and lemongrass.
Enters akin to whole grain bread. Full of seeds and hulls, the malt gradually shifts sweeter. Toasted caramel and toffeed walnuts. Brisk and clean in feel, a sign of attentive lagering. Ends with a flourish of lemon-oil drenched, dead weeds. This is as authentically Gernan tasting as any domestic festbier I've ever had.
Moderate bodied, if perhaps more towards light (think: Lowenbrau, which this beer shares many a trait), and steady of carbonation.
It just demands large doses.
This is probably the best "new-to-me" oktoberfest I've had this year.
A real surprise winner here.

Clear copper color with a small off white head that doesn't last very long, not much lacing either. Sweet bready, grainy aromas, light grainy and caramel flavors, finishes clean. Light to medium bodied with a crisp and carbonated mouthfeel, much better than I expected, a well done oktoberfest.

Augsburger Oktoberfest is a new offering from the Stevens Point Brewery. I dont remember Augsburger having an O-fest before, but I might be mistaken. The label says it is handcrafted honoring the traditional German Oktoberfest. It is not even listed yet on their website.
12 oz green longneck with a nice Bavarian inspired label design. No apparent freshness dating.
Beer pours a medium copper with an off-white head. The head disappears fairly quickly and leaves a skimming across the top that hangs our for the duration of the beer. Sheets of lacing.
The beer has a fresh aroma. Some subtle hop/pine nose with grain and slightly toasted malts. Not quite enough of a nose in my opinion, but what there is, is decent.
Beer is slightly sweet from the malts. This one may have more hopping than some others in this style. The beer has hints of hard candy and caramel and very lightly toasted grain (think whole grain bagel).
The mouthfeel could be beefed up a bit and the carbonation lowered a notch. In spite of this beers minor flaws, it very drinkable. I like a little more oomph to my Oktoberfests, but this seems to a nice rendition of the more modern offerings. Glad to see Point continues to expand and experiment.
