Pours clear and filtered with little or no head. Woody's Wheat tastes as most American style wheat ales; light and spritzy. No malt, no hops. No Banana, no cloves; it's empty. Sipping it leaves a very dry mouth-feel, similar to a cider. Calling it a hefeweizen is an insult to Bavaria. Disappointing--concerning Woody's is brewed in Black River Falls, WI.

Pours cloudy yellow gold in color with a small white foamy head that faded quickly; there was a lot of sediment left at the bottom of the bottle, and this brew left basically no lacing.

Smells of yeast, wheat, light clove, pepper, grass, hay, lemon and grains; this is a very earthy beer that almost had the aroma of a fiber drink – if nothing else, this beer should make for a nice movement (LOL).

Tastes of yeast, wheat, clove, pepper, grass, hay, lemon, light brown sugar, toasted grains, honey, coriander and banana; like the nose, the flavor is very earthy, but tasted better than it smelled with classic hefeweizen characteristics. There is a slight malt sweetness after the swallow, which left my mouth bone dry after each sip.

Mouthfeel is very light and very crisp, with high fizzy carbonation and a light body that’s almost watery; this beer is light, crisp and refreshing, and it leaves your mouth dry and the finish is very clean. Any hefeweizen fan would really like this beer and it’s American twist on the German style. A very good beer that is great for a nice summer night.

Drinking this put me in mind of the "Sanford and Son" episode where Fred and Lamont visited Hawaii and Fred was ordering cocktails. Fred: I'll have a Mai Tai. Lamont: Sounds, good, Pop. I'll have a Mai Tai, too. Fred: No, you can't have my Tai. You get your own Tai. Waitress, that'll be a Mai Tai for me, a His Tai for him and if you want one, get you a Your Tai while you're up. Zounds! Well, if this is Woody's Wheat, then only Adam Wood (a colleague), Mr. Allen and I are drinking. The rest of you get your own Wheat 'cause this is Woody's Wheat and I frankly ain't in a sharin' mood just about now. ;=)

Billed as a "classic Hefe-Weizen" and "[p]art of every balanced meal" (har!), I have to cop to being intrigued simply because of its name. Yes, I am THAT shallow. "Nutrition begins with Woody's Wheat - a classic ... from the Sand Creek B.C." I CAN be their spokesperson, if need be. As to all of that balanced meal and nutrition jazz, I flashed back to that summer (2009) when I attended the SPTR's "Drink Your Wheaties" event and left thinking, "That was nice. Now, I'll go drink some beer." Wheat just does not seem to be my bag.

This was presented to me with a finger of bone-white head with low retention. I had just turned my head for a moment and it left me like a cheap date with the check. Boo hoo. Color was a cloudy lemon-yellow. Nose was certainly Hefe, but sans the cloying banana/ yeasty scent. Mouthfeel was medium with a dry papery yeast-driven feel on the tongue, along with black pepper and cloves. Shazam! Now, we are talkin'! This indicated, to me, that it was like an Alt Hefeweizen, where even though the yeast is an ale strain, it was fermented under lager conditions. The finish was dry, peppery with a slight banana flavor. Now, this, I could drink. Oh, miss! ...

An extreme head, way overcarbonated and left to a thin ring. Dark gold in color. Lots of spice in the smell, some orange zest, some cloves, really good. A thin beer, it's a bit watery with a heavy orange and clove taste. Fair drinkability.

The smell and flavor of this beer is great, but the mouthfeel really takes away from it. Good, but not great.

Pours a clear, golden color. 1/5 inch head of a white color. Decent retention and poor lacing. Smells of tart malt, yeast, slight hops, all spice, cinnamon, and slight wheat. Fits the style of a Hefeweizen. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp with an average carbonation level. Tastes of hops, citrus, ginger, wheat, and sweet malt.

A - hazy yellow with a pretty small head

S - smells of wheat and a little bit of lemon

T - taste follows the nose. Tastes of wheat and a hint of lemon and a tad bit of bubblegum. True to the style.

MF - smooth, full, and well-carbonated

D - this was an okay wheat beer. Pretty simple taste, kept to the wheat / yeast taste and didn't deviate from it. Easy to drink but not the most interesting beer, which works for this beer.

Pours a beautiful orange amber color, hazy after swirled and decant of sediment. A soap foam that quickly dissolves leaving no lace at all.

Powerful hefe nose--rekindles the traditional German style in my mind. Hints of citrus fruits, especially curacao orange and grapefruit. The cloves and orange peels dominate the aroma. A tad on the sweet side. There is a lot of bubble carbonation in there.

Very carbonated on the tongue, huge hefeweizen yeast taste with large orange taste as if a slice was squeezed into it. Not too sweet in taste, well balanced with a yeast and malt body. Hints of bananas-just like a Hacker Pschorr Hefeweizen. Amazing!

Prickly on the tongue, really tantalizing the taste buds. Medium body with a silky feel. All beer, no foam.

Very consumable. Extremely well balanced and in the true German Hefeweizen style. I feel like I am in Germany drinking this beer. I could drink all day long, a session wheat beer. Leaves a spicy taste on the palette. Burps up just as flavorful as when it goes down.

This is an amazingly tasteful and balanced wheat beer. Not too much to interfere with the orange, banana and wheat yeast taste. If you want a true German style Hefeweizen, try this!

A - Pours with a thin, fizzy head that dissipates quickly. Minimal lacing. Hazy, light leather brown color.

S - Fruity aroma with heavy clove notes as would be expected for the style.

T - Sweet, fruity, crisp malty flavor, finishing with plenty of clove notes. Nice representation of the style. Not as good as the Germans, but much better that most American versions.

M - Light bodied. Highly carbonated.

D - Very nice wheat beer. Perfect for a fall afternoon in the beer garden.

A - Cloudy amber with a small finger of white head, this one lacks retention, but does show some nice lacing as I work my way through the pint. Not a bad looking beer my any means, but IMO a hefe should have a big prodigious head.

S - Mild citrus fruit, some mild donuts, and a good whiff of banana tinged donut. This is definitely "to style" and it does the hefe thing well. Notes of banana baby food and gazed donuts make this a good example of the style. This smells good!

T - Big dough flavors remind me of donuts, fresh bread, and the yeasty layer left at the bottom of the finest hefes by those who don't know how to swirl the good stuff into the mix. This one is on the banana/yeast end of the hefe spectrum, and that's how I like them!

M - Medium bodied with no shortage of carbonation, this one is neutral on the finish with a big time yeasty aftertaste.

D - A good representation of the style. This is tasty and highly representative of this German style. Definitely a good brew to session in the higher altitudes of this North American continent.

a cloudy honey golden color with a very short disappearing head and no lace at all. fruity candy bubble gum aromas in the nose. sweet and fruity up front with banana and apple present lightly tart and and spiced fininh on the taste. lively carbonation and a light mouthfeel. other than appearance it was ok but there is much better out there.

Presentation - 12 oz brown bottle with no freshness date. Pored into a pint glass.

A - Opaque copper/orange...the head started out less than 1 finger and quickly dissipated to almost nothing. What little head there was left a minute trace of lacing down the inside of the glass.

S - A faint smell of clove, banana and coriander...the usual scents expected from a wheat beer, but very faint.

T & M - Very light on the palate with a fair amount of carbonation. This seems to me to be a weaker version of most of the Hefe's I've drank. Still good though...making it maybe a little better as a session brew. The typical banana and clove tastes expected from this brewing style.

D - High drinkability, but still not what I expected from this style of beer. I don't know what the ABV is but would expect it to be around 5%. I could buy this again, but just don't expect it to be in the same line as a Paulaner.

Beer #3 from my FSRI care package. Served in my MH Circus Boy weizen glass. Poured a hazy, semi-translucent honey-gold with audible effervescence and copious tiny bubbles that adhered to the sides of the glass and percolated to the cap. Three quarter inch off-white head dissipated within seconds; zero lacing present during the session. Nose was somewhat skunky out of the bottle; however, in the glass I picked up lots of bubblegum and banana. Flavor was primarily wheat, grain and biscuity. Mouthfeel was light-bodied and very lively and a bit watery. Fair drinkability, but closer to a slightly flavored macro than a hefeweizen.

A - Wow, where the head go on this beer? I poured this into a bottle, blinked twice and the head was gone. Now I am left with a brown hazy beer with no head. To me, it looks like apple cider as there was not even a lace.

S - There is very faint cloves, cinnamon and coriander smells. These are extremely faint though.

T - Again, like a typical hefe, except the flavor is rather faint. The banana, coriander and other components are there but they are very faint.

M - The faint flavors hit your mouth initially but then the beer is somewhat watered down. Its not as full flavored as other hefe's.

D - This beer is easy to drink but is a pretty suspect hefe. There are many others in the state that top this one.

Smells like a wheat beer, hearty with some yeasts. Nice layer of sediment on the bottom of the bottle. I stirred up the last little bit to get it out of the bottle into the glass to finish off a cloudy yellow orange pour. Taste is sweet & sour at the start with a tart finish. Mouthfeel is good, good body and a higher but just right carbonation for this brew. Very refreshing brew. Hits the style right on the mark. Hits the style right on the mark. Great drinakability.

A - pours a murky straw yellow with very little foam

S - aroma of cloves and banana, nothing too overwhelming

T - mostly clove flavor, nothing too overwhelming, just a light hefe

M/D - light bodied, not very flavorful, easy drinking because there isn't alot to it

I poured from a 12 ounce bottle into my SA pint glass. It pours a hazy gold with a very solid white head. The aroma is heavy on the banana, light on the clove. The taste follows, leaving a pleasant bannana finish. The beer is lightly bodied and nicely carbonated. A very drinkable beer that wouls be great during the hot summer months.

I poured this beer into my tumbler at 50 degrees. The beer was cloudy like a wheat beer should be. The color was like pee and the beer had absolutely no head. The beer had no lacing either. The smell of the beer was like pee and the taste an unpleasant sour. I will not buy again.

A - cloudy pale yellow with minimal head that dissipates quickly leaving a small ring.

S - Cloves, banana, lemon. Nice zesty aroma here.

T - A bit weak for my tastes but certainly not bad. Lemon and cloves are up front. A tiny bit of a metallic afertaste.

M - Medium body with ample carbonation

D - I could see this hitting the spot after mowing the lawn in the summer but winter in New England isn't quite doing it for me.

You'll have to work a bit to get the wheat and yeast sediment roused up from the bottom of the bottle--it clings hard. When added to the beer, it becomes heavily cloudy and murky with a yellowish raw grapefruit juice color. Has a solid, two-fingered bright white head that sticks quite nicely. Has a great, big ol' wheat twang that is just unmistakable. It's got a slight sourness to it with a bold, wheat-heavy nose. Under ripened bananas, almost like plantains on the nose, and cloves, with clear notes of lemon zest and Granny Smith green apples. Goes down quite refreshing/thirst quenching without a doubt--yet still full of flavor--mirroring what hits the nose, with young banana notes (giving that characteristic, clingy light bitterness found in unripe bananas) and less clove than implied by the nose but with more green apple character--and gentle wheaty sourness. Some lemony notes as well. Spry level of carbonation intensifies a light bite at the end. This beer holds up quite nicely even when approaching warmer temps. When warm, bubblegum notes really blossom. Another solid offering from Sand Creek Brewing Company--gotta love solid beers from the midwest!

Pours a slightly cloudy yellow color with a small white head that settles quickly to a thin cap. Some lacing is left on the glass.

Has the standard Hefe aromas of cloves and bananas. Just not very upfront with the aromas.

Good flavor but overall it is a little weak to rate a higher score. Mainly clove flavors.

The body is light with abundant, but not harsh carbonation. A little thin compared to the better Hefes.

Maybe this would be a good Hefe to get people to try if they never had one before. Everyone else will probably think it average. Very drinkable and an ABV of 5% helps.

T - Unexciting its close to what a hefe should be but its lacking theres clove flavor but thats where it ends

M - This beer has a light body with high carbonation to it

D - This isn't a bad beer just not an exciting hefe to me its refreshing with and average taste for an American version of a hefe though

Purchased as part of "build-your-own-six-pack" at local grocer. Small, quickly disappearing head on a cloudy body. Smell and taste were very similar: wheaty with just a hint of sweetness and/or citrus. Had good thickness, but little to no carbonation. Flat. It's a good beer, just needs some more gas. May have to pick up another to see if I had gotten a bad bottle.

Got this beer as part of the June shipment from Amazing Clubs Beer of the Month Club.

Pour has a thin head that dissipates quickly. No lacing to speak of. As the beer warms it looks a little like a peach tea.

Smell is citrus, mostly lemon with a little grapefruit.

Taste is fairly typical of an American wheat with a citrus taste that works really well. Drinkability is good. Not a great beer but a pretty good example of an American wheat.

Poured into a weizen glass.

Medium straw with a heavy cloud. Violent carbonation.

Nose is of crystal malt and clove, honey and diacetyl.

Flavor is apple, tart green apple and tangy citrus.

If I didn't know any better I would swear this was a cider, its that much on the green apple side. There is a small amount of wheat and yeast flavor there.

Strange flavor profile for a wheat, very sweet.

Poured into a pint glass this beer was golden colored with almost zero head, but noticeable carbonation bubbles rising continuously from the bottom of the glass. The smell is very heavy in the malt spectrum, not really what I was expecting in a wheat brew. There was more of a clear color and not much of a sweet or spicy nose like most wheat brews I have come across. The taste was that close to a lager. There was a slight hop bitter after taste. Not sure what I think about this brew. It isn't bad, but I don't know if it fits the category?
