This velvety ale is brewed from a duo of Belgian and American dark-roasted malts. When poured, its deep garnet color is crowned with a creamy tan head.

This porter poured a very dark brown into my glass, when held to the light there was a nice deep ruby hue. A moderate off-white head diminished to a skim with a little lacing. The predominate aroma is chocolate, with some roasted grains, a little burnt sugar, some sweetness, and a bit woody, quite complex. The taste is moderate-high on the malt, chocolate, roasted grain in the background, some raisin and a bit of oak or almost vanilla flavor. The finish is rather clean and crisp, leaves the slightest roasted flavor on the tongue. The hop bitterness is low, allowing malt to dominate, with little or no hop flavor or aroma. The mouthfeel is medium, maybe just a bit thin of what I would expect with moderate-low carbonation. Overall this is an interesting porter, that is a bit different that most, I could almost classify this as a dark brown ale. I enjoy the aroma the best, very complex and inviting, flavor was solid, but mouthfeel was a bit thin. A solid offering from a good microbrewery.

Clear, dark brown body; excellent carbonation; thick, frothy and semi-creamy, light khaki colored head, lasting. Fine scent of medium roasted grain; slight vanilla undercurrent. Light cocoa flavor with a touch of vanilla; lightly sweet; hickory nut; very mild bitterness. Medium-light body; smooth and silky; lightly sweet mouthfeel highlighted with some dark grain warmth.
All around, a nice beer. To me, this seems more like a brown ale or, perhaps, a dark English mild. The impact of the taste and mouthfeel seem a bit weak for a porter but fit nicely in the other two beer categories. Regardless, this is a pleasant drinker and quite satisfying overall.

I got a bottle of this beer off the single shelf from a beer store in LaCrosse, WI. The beer poured a nearly opaque dark with no head and no lace. The scent had subtle vanilla and cocoa tones. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with vanilla and mocha presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a good beer.

This is a 12oz. bottle poured into a glass. The beer pours a dark but clear brown color with a one inch tan head. The foam slowly slipped away leaving just a thin cap and no lacing on the side of the glass.
The aroma is mostly sweet cocoa nibs.
The taste follows the nose, sweet with a touch of coffee, there is nothing bitter or dry to the sip.
There is plenty of carbonation, also this beer is thicker or a bit creamier than I anticipated.
This beer tastes fine, I would drink it again.

Sand Creek Badger Porter, 12 oz bottle, no date, poured into Tallgrass Globe Snifter.
A very anemic tan-looking liquid comes forth from the bottle, but as it forms it develops a medium to heavy brown color. Whew, that was close. Some white head standing about 1/4 finger tall, slight lacing broken up above the head which I assume is where it stuck after the pour.
Aroma is nearly non existent but I can detect some slight earthy notes, perhaps a touch of sawdust and toffee.
Flavor brings some interesting notes of blackberry, cola, coffee, caramel, cocoa nibs, and gritty dirt. I can get with this. Easy drinking.
Feel is about right, if a bit thin, and has some nice slickness to it as well. Roast and dryness accompany a stiff but busy moderate to high carbonation with slight stickiness at the back end.
Overall, hey, this wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. The nose and appearance were garbage, but the feel and flavor were highly enjoyable. I could see how some folks would DP this, but for me it works fine. Not bad, I'd probably pick up another single or two next time I'm over in WI, note to self.

My first Sand Creek ale isn't a good start.
Badger Porter has a thin mouth. High carbonation makes it worse. Easy to drink, not easy to buy again.

To light in color for a standard porter, light auburn, lots of floating particulates. Smells oaky, dry, slightly sour. Has to be Infected, Drain pour.
