What a name... like a racing car even! Tasted by half pint at the Wenlock Arms, London, 25/01/06. The pump clip says this offering is a mixture of Dark Star's Porter and Imperial Stout, and "drinkers are required to drink pints rather than halfs"... Well I wasn't stopped when ordering only half pint~~
A: pours a jet-black hue with minimum mahogany edge, coming with a fluffy thin head. Looking healthy for a strong dark beer.
S: pretty fruity--red grapes, plums, dates, backed by lots of dark fruit jam, aromatic hops and sweetish dark malts. Not bad, and not terribly complex, and overall very much like a glass of fortified wine~~
T: a slightly port-vinous palate yields lightly smoky and roasted maltiness, while implicit hoppy dryness and rich fruitiness gradually come through, leading to a smoked-prunes+longan-fruits like aftertone and a lingering, herbal/wood-sprigs bitterness.
M: extremely light on the mouthfeel but a flow of nice and warmish alcoholic touch accompanies the flavour at each step.
D: overall not as complex and rich as Dark Star's Imperial Stout, but just as dangerously quaffable this one~~
