Rated relative to the style. Much too hoppy.

Pours amber with no real head. Little lacing. Smell is sweet carmel. Taste also has a carmel feel with a sweet bread aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium. Overall a tasty beer for any weather.

A- Deep, past blood, red with thin head, light lacing.

S- Light, sweet bread smell. Like King's Hawaiian

T- Outstanding sweet bread and toffee front followed by a well balanced toasted malt and light earthy hop.

M- Not too oily, not too carbonated. Just right.

O- One of my favorites and one of Wisconsin's most well-rounded beers.

Poured a deep, dark amber red with an almost nonexistent head. Moderate lacing. Smells sweet and a little funky with strong overtones of very sweet caramel.
With the first drink it tasted like I just took a fat bong rip. This beer tastes very dank! Like some sweet fruity sativa bud. The dankness fades into sweet caramel and earthy flavors with and a little booziness. Not very bitter or smokey like a lot of Scotch ales are. The dank funkiness is the most prominent taste in this one.
Feels lightly carbonated, not too warming but quite boozy.
Overall a very good and unique beer. Not quite the Scotch ale I was looking for, but I WILL keep coming back!

Served in a snifter glass.

Pours a deep ruby color with hints of walnut and chestnut. Head is very fleeting and only sticks around for a few seconds before receding to a tiny ring. 70% opaque.

Aroma of dark bread crusts, toffee, and barn grains. Just a touch of fruit as its inhaled deeper. Fairly weak aroma, deep sniffs are required.

Taste, I don't get the rave about this. It's sour, medicinal, with lingering notes of bread crusts, peppery coriander, soaked prunes, and cough syrup. I had a sample on tap as well a few nights ago before buying a single in the store the next day, and I wasn't impressed then, either. The fig and dare I say peppery coriander (it just doesn't seem right for this style, does it?) disrupt the whole profile and the sour barn grains in the nose just complete the process making it a choke-fest. Some liquor burn also comes in as it warms up making it an almost instant drain pour.

Feel is where it seems a bit better, it has a bit of a tongue scrubbing presence while still maintaing a nice soda-like carbonation. Dry pruney finish.

Overall...yuck. So many people said "get this", and all I can say is, "avoid this". It's just terrible. One of the worst scotch ales I've had, and it's not just this bottle, either.

Smooth, but not as much body as I would have liked. It's a good, dependable Scotch ale, very much a staple an easy beer to drink. It's not exceptional, but it's definitely a standard, just below Dirty Bastard by Founders.

This was a very tasty scotch ale and does a nice job at representing this brew type. A lot of nice molasses notes and darkly roasted malts on the nose. On the palate it continues to have nice molasses notes with an addition to some sweet caramel and a hint of bitter chocolate. This brew has extremely subtle bitter notes and very little hop presence that I could notice. I would definitely pick up another 6-pack of this whenever I get to Wisconsin.
