64 ounce growler. Murky yellow. Medium white head. What an aroma! Sugar, orange juice, lemon, coriander, strawberries, vanilla, blueberries. This must be some sort of super-wit. The smell is so complex and delicious, it's amazing. The flavor is equally good. Wheat beer body. Malty sweetness, balanced with bitter orange peels. All the fruits described above. I don't know how all these flavors come together without fighting for dominance. Drinkability is perfect. I could go on with the superlatives all day, but just just forget about what I say and get yourself a growler. Tom Porter can do no wrong.

One of the best Whit's I've tried....awesome nose...a big vanilla aroma...also, ginger, some spicy wheatiness, orange peel, lemon, grains of paradise, perhaps a bit of honey too..some black pepper notes as well..

Body is lighter side of medium...refreshingly citrusy...flavors really blend nicely...from the crisp wheat spiciness, to a bit of a vanilla/honey sweetness, to a lemon grass, orange peel spritziness...

This was highly touted by those close to me and it has met my expectations....better than any otherr American made Whit I've had...would love to taste side-by-side with Hoegarden.

Dirty looking vanilla appearance. Dim tones of yellow accent. Too murky to even see if there's any CO2 surfacing. Thin ivory white head dissipates into a thin film that sticks around. Lacing is adequate. Now I know of a different beer that claims to smell like a summer afternoon, but this one takes the cake in that department. What an awesome aroma! It's the smell of curaco. It's the smell of orange peel. It's the smell of photosynthesis. It's the smell of wheat. It's the smell of vanilla bean. It's the smell of pavement after a quick downpour. It's the smell of freshly cut grass. It's the smell of a brisk carribean ocean breeze blasting into your face. Did I mention I like the smell? One of the best smelling beers I've come across. The taste comes through in a big way as well. Nice yeasty, musty, bready tones. Lemongrass. Doughiness. Sweet orange AND bitter orange. Peppery, spicy kick. A nice lingering dryness. Mouthfeel is good, but lacking a little carbonation. Could be due to the mode of transit (UPS). Body is appropriately medium or so.

If I had a tapper at home, this one would be without a doubt my choice for summer.

This beer only reinforces my thought that Lake Louie IS the best brewery in Wisconsin and one of the best "unheard of" breweries in the country.

Cokes! You're the man for shooting me a growler of this nectar. Thank you.

2004 Edition.
Seems the kinks have beer ironed out. This is now a killer witbier. Lemon and orange rinds. Peppery yeast; big and cracked, and loud. Coriander. Tart-leaning, dry wheat hues on a shimmering pils malt base. Tricky perks of saltiness. Small bodied, but perky. And the most noteworthy change is the upped Saaz quotient. The savory lemon grass finish is captivating.
Growlers are emptied quickly.
This is an absolute top-shelf wit.
Transcends "nice". This is one of the finest summer quaffers I've had.
1/2 Gallon Growler.
Dusty pale gold in color, big, cloud-like head explodes after a hard pour (minimal if not poured hard, there is no middle ground).
Delicious orange peel and coriander aromas. Absolutely perfect for the style.
Enters the mouth with some orange notes mingled with the doughy yeastiness. A little nutmeg and coriander keeps things lively. But this is not as spicy as many other witbiers. Exits with a quick jab of carmelized sugar, then turns faintly yeasty and citric sour.
Light-bodied, and easy to drink. Texture is generally very creamy, but it exudes a little mushy thiness at times (and only some of the time). Could be a little crisper. But I am nitpicking here.
An fairly solid wit. This is a nice summer time quaffer. (3.95).

12oz brown bottle, no date information.

Pale lemon straw. Huge, featherweight head of sizzling bright white bubbles of mixed sizes. Settles at a snail’s pace, dimpling its way down to a sprinkling of light foam. Initial steady core of vibrant carbonation that dissipates to a few sporadic trails. Sweet and spicy nose, a bit of bright orange, crisp white fruits, pears, apples, peaches, along with some peppery spices. Overall a nice, strong, and distinctive aroma. Initially softly crisp and slightly sweet, the fruit flavors indicated in the aroma are sharply reduced, but are still distinct. The spiciness builds through the finish and grabs lightly at the back of the tongue before letting go. While the spiciness is more prominent than the fruit, it is not obtrusive. Light body and soft carbonation, the mouthfeel would have benefited from a bit more carbonation, but was still nice. This was enjoyable and definitely drinkable.

C- Cloudy yellow with a bleached white head.

A- Delightful aroma. Spicy yeast, coriander, vanilla, wheat malt, hint of orange peel and touch of banana.

MF- Light and airy on the tongue.

T- Creamy vanilla and wheat malt upfront. The middle has a touch of lemony citrus to it. There's also coriander and a spicy yeast that emerges. The finish has almost a peppery quality to it.

D- I'd have to say this is one of the better American made Belgian-style witbiers out there. I'll take a Prairie Moon over a Blue Moon any day!

A very limited distribution Wisconsin brewery.

This beer pours nice hazy yellow with very white head and some chunks of yeast. I find the chucks an interesting feature in a beer.

Nose is very nice with pears, lemon, spice and hops until it warmed up. Then the flavor became less appealing; not as fresh smelling.

Taste is citrus, spice and hops with a nice fruity finish. Very nice beer and easy to drink. It could have just a little more depth. Alcohol appears to be not very high. 5-6%??

Appears a hazy light gold with steady streams of carbonation pumping towards the top of the glass. A foamy white head of fluff slowly collapses. Scattered bits of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of lemon, pumelo, vanilla, chamomile, basil, orange, and light cardamom.
Taste is of the aromas with Dried apricots, poached pears, and an interesting, lightly tart flavor with a touch of key limes.
Mouthfeel is semi sweet, with orangepeel resounding, spritzy, and dry in the finish.

A lot of saisons, bier de gardes, witbiers and others are over the top with cloviness and coriander. This one has those elements, but is mild and drinkable. I really liked it.

It pours a dirty hazy yellow with a nice head composed of tiny bubbles. Aroma was of clove and coriander. Flavor was almost coconut in nature, in addition to the usual spices represented in this style. Quite nice. I really enjoyed it.

Thanks to eyncognito for this 12 oz bottle. With a name like this, shouldn't it be a saison?

A: The witbier is clear, bright and translucent. The clarity accentuates the steady stream of bubbles rising from the nucleation site. Golden yellow, moderately pale, best describes it. A small head, genereally is unremarkable.

S: The nose is tart, refreshingly so, thanks to the wheat. Coriander and curacao are in strong supply as well, a sweet complement to the tartness.

T: Peppery coriander is much stronger, at least up front, than the nose lets on. The short blast is followed by wheat and barley. I specifically mentioned the barley because the wheat tartness doesn't stand out as much as in the nose. Fruits, citrus in particular, linger around with orange and lemon standing out. The witbier leaves a dry, grainy finish that is redeemed only by the spritzy carbonation.

M: The pepper and fruit starts things off well but the witbier doesn't hold up well. The wheat disappears into barley and the spices never come to the forefront.

D: The carbonation works but I struggle to stick with the rest of the flavor profile.

The beer poured into the chalice lightly hazy pale golden with a white and frothy, neverending, head which lasted to lace the glass from top to bottom.

The aroma was lightly spicy with coriander and a hint of pepper. The citrusy component of the aroma was orange with a bit of lemon. A soft wheat character was notable as well.

The flavor was tart and heading toward sour. The tartness seemed too strong and almost forced as if lactic acid was added rather than a natural yeast derived tartness. Lemon and slight orange character were notable, but spice was very low in the flavor and the tartness overshadowed any presence of wheat.

The finish was dry with wheat presence returning once the tartness subsided. The body was medium with a nice roundness and fairly high carbonation which led to a nice mouthfeel. Nice to smell, but a bit rough to consume with all the tartness.

Serving size: 1/2 gallon grolwer.

Pours out the palest of yellows and sits a cloudy light yellow with a nice sized head on top, achieved with little effort. Leaves a good amount of skim on the top with some nice lacings on the sides.

Smells of coriander, sweet orange peel and wheat malt. Nice citrus zest aroma as well as a bit of spice (Saaz). Placing this up against Hoegaarden, it would be hard to pick either one out.

Taste is wonderful. Light citrus, both bitter and sweet orange. Coriander makes a nice background. Good dry feel to this, perfect for the style. Yeast comes out near the finish, in a saltine-like flavor. Again, in a lineup of Hoegaarden clones, this would be near the top of the list.

Mouthfeel is dead on. Rich, smooth and completely refreshing. Carbonation is wonderful, just tickles the tounge without piercing. If you can mange to handle the whole growler, it would make a perfect lawnmower beer, otherwise, you'll have to wait for 6-packs to come out.

Pristine darkest lemon with more than a touch of tangerine peel. The several finger cap isn't a beautifully rocky Belgian masterpiece, although it's still attractive. Bleached wool white in color, densely creamy in consistency, it has enough stickiness to deposit a high collar of nearly unbroken lace. A very nice witbier look.

My oh my! Prairie Moon is an olfactory delight and then some. I don't know that I've ever smelled a wit that is this luciously citrusy. Aromatic clouds of sweet orange and lemon fill my head with each sniff. In fact, I just need to get my nose in the vicinity of the glass in order to appreciate the wonderousness. While there's more than enough coriander to keep the beer solidly in witbier territory, it's all about the sweet and zesty fruit peel.

Thankfully, the flavor profile is in lockstep with the aroma. This is amazingly flavorful, amazingly delicious beer. There just has to something present other than the usual triumvirate of wheat, orange and coriander. My guess is that it's a generous quantity of some hop that I can't identify, but whose flavor I love. Something is giving PMFA an added flavor boost that the vast majority of wits only wished they possessed.

Pale wheat combines with snappy Curacao orange, pink bubblegum and warmly spicy coriander to create a tremedously drinkable version that is balanced in almost all respects. Purists might grouse about too much citrus and too many hops, but those are variations that I'd write into every witbier recipe if I could. It's hard to imagine a better, more drinkable, more refreshing summer beer.

The mouthfeel is as light and as soft as cotton, which is exactly what it needs to be in order to promote maximum quaffability. It's difficult for me to break out the big numbers for a beer that is this light, but suffice it to say that few brewers could wring this much pleasure out of such a body/mouthfeel. I know that 'delicate' isn't a very manly adjective, but it works here.

Is there no end to the magnificence emanating from Arena, Wisconsin? There's no doubt in my mind that Lake Louie is the best brewery in the great beer state of Wisconsin and may even crack the top-5 in the Midwest. It isn't often that I find such immensely drinkable beer, across the entirety of the style spectrum, from a single brewery. Prairie Moon Farmhouse Ale, simply put, is one of the best wits in existence.

Thick white head and lace. yeast and wheat and farm aroma. Great citrus sourness. Creamy smooth mouthfeel to compensate. My first Lake Louis. Thanks JPM30. Refreshing on the palate. Average carbonation which was appropriate, though less would have been better.

Pours a very pale gold with huge white head and great lacing. Smells of wheat, corriander, and oranges. Very typicalish type of scent detected. Nothing out of the ordinary, but yet still very pleasant. Very striking taste, hits you with oranges and corriander, then yeasty taste follows in the end. Very smooth drinking beer. Slight nutmeg in there as well which is not appreciated for personal reasons only (bad experience with the nutmeg flavor) but it's not overwhelming and this is still very enjoyable to me. Citrusy hops in there and the wheat is so nice and soothing. Light/medium bodied with good ammount of carbonation seen up the side of the glass. Out of control drinkability here, I could grill out and drink a growler very easily. I don't know if that's such a great idea though. Very good beer. This one might sneak right up in the top 3 for Lake Louie beers, which makes it, IMHO, one damn good brew.

Take 10 oz of grapefruit juice, mix it with 5 oz. of OJ, and you get the general appearance of this beer. But the beer is much better.

The wheaty sweet sweetness is the first thing that hits me when I take a sip. Candied banana chip nuance, some lemon zest. Clove, chamomile, coriander, orange zest. These are themes to the beer. After a few sips, i've got it, and now i'm ready to rock and roll, insofar as rocking and rolling involves me drinking a growler of wit after work.

Mouthfeel is kickass too. Thick, gritty, smooth, slippery, wet and thirst quenching as you please.
It's ridiculous how quickly i've drank my last 2 growlers of Lake Louie beer.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 3" off-white head over the cloudy golden brew. Big rocky head fades quite slowly, with heavy foamy lacing. Aroma is wheat sweet but tart as well. Flavor is hearty wheat with tart notes as well, with a bit of a chalky aftertaste. Mouthfeel is a bit fizzy, and drinkability is okay. Hoped for a bit more from this one, but nice nonetheless.

Much improved over last year's. I am quite happy with this. Appearance is spot on for the style. Permanently hazed white that picks up an almost purple tinge from the lighting in the bar. Thin white head. Aroma is more robust and really exploding with coriander. So is the flavor. Mild sourness adds some needed character. Very nice.

Whitbier eh. It pours a light, hazy pale yellow color, nearly white, with a 2 finger head that falls to a light coating over top. The nose is ripe with coriander and wheaty goodness. There is a sweetness in there. I think it is chamomile, but it lacks the spicyness that I associate with it, thought I stilll like it. The flavor is better than the nose. I get a light coriander spiceyness and a good dose of wheat creamyness with the chamomile playing a rather strong role. Its lacking that defined orange crispness that I want in a witbier. The feel is moderate to thick, with a light to moderate carbonation. This is a tasty brew and its highly drinkable. I like the addition of the chamomile, but its just not as spicey as I would like it to be.

Not bad, not bad. Poured with a huge frothy, foamy off white head and some lace. Color is a slightly hazy amber. Aroma is mild and a bit spicy, malty, yeasty. Flavor's the same but with a bit of home brew flavor and more accent on spice and yeast. Body is soft and carbonation is ok. Personally prefer a less soft belgian style farmhouse/wit. Finish is ok. Again personally, not a session for me, but maybe for some.

A- This beer has a hazy yellow body with a good carbonation of tiny bubbles. There is a thin wisp of white foam that swirls around in the glass after each sip.

S- The soft dry pine note has a tartness to it that fades into a perfumed yeasty note. The finish has an earthy bubblegum hint that turns musty as the beer warms.

T- This beer has a smooth tartness of grapefruit with a tangy lemon cologne hint and a club soda taste to it. The finish is a pine note with a soft bitterness.

M- This beer has a medium-light mouthfeel with a tight little fizz in the finish.

D- This beer is light and crisp but has some nice fruity hints to it. There were some flavors that were a bit odd but not offensive.

Hazy golden yellow with a half inch of bone white head on top. Fizzy bubbles. Aromas of spicy lemon-lime and light sun dried malts. Somewhat earthy with a touch of sourness. Yeasty undertone.

First sip is crisp light malts met by lemon and lime zest and a mellow spiciness. Earthy yeast accents along with a tart twang. Mild funkiness on the way down. Mellow overall but quite tasty.

Light and easy drinking. Would be a good summer brew on the beach for sure. Not gonna blow you away with complexity but a nice Belgian style farmhouse ale overall. Worth a try for sure.

Thanks to kmpitz2 for sharing. Prairie Moon looks typically yeasty, wheaty, with more yellowing than most white-er Wits. Pours a dainty head from the growler that lingers. Laces very well. Smells sweet and spicy. Buttery tones are high, but not a detraction. Herbal aromas jump out. Tastes typically thinly sweet--honey, powdered sugar, and light malt. Spicy with--corriander, camomile, curraco, mild peppery and a little gingery or tea like. Buttery, caramelly flavors abound, maybe diacetyl / maybe not. Body reveals good creaminess and sweet alcohol. Heats up toward the finish. Finishes crisp and clean with those buttery tones still lurking. A very good beer. The butteryness didn't seem to bother me, but it did keep me from rating this one higher.

This beer pours a cloudy yellow color. The head is a one inch cap of bright white foam that recedes very slowly, and leaves good lacing. The aroma is of lemon zest, coriander, and orange peel. It is very vibrant, and lively. The taste is just as alive as the aroma with lingering lemon and orange, and enough coriander to add complexity. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with sprightly carbonation, and a slightly chewy texture. Overall, this is one very good witbier. I would love to have this available as a summertime session beer.
