appearence: The pour into the snifter creates low white head that recedes to a collar around the glass. The beer is a deep chestnut in color.

smell: Sweet milk chocolate and caramel on the nose. Light, spicy hop presence. Some hints of maple.

mouthfeel: The carbonation is slight, between medium and low. The body is medium and somewhat slick and creamy on the tongue.

taste: Milk chocolate and vanilla cookies. Just the right hop bitterness to balance.

drinkability: Tasty, and very easy to drink considering the listed ABV.

1-23-07: Same batch, cellared until now. Seems that more of the malt has come out with age. Smooth but with a nice alcohol bite. Worth a shot in the cellar for sure.

Violet ink dark amber brown. Thick, creamy, rocky, dirty khaki head. Laces excellently. Complex aroma: caramel apple, smoke, butter rum, meat, scorched brown sugar, leather, and light peat bog. Big earthy sweet caramelly malt flavors up front. Rummy fruits and sweet bread combine with leather, spiced pudding, and peat. Mild, pleasant, peppery bitterness follows. Residual malty sweetness in the finish. Full-bodied, coating feel. Excellent beer! So malty and complex!

12 oz bottle pours a dark, garnet mahogany body with a small beige head that quickly falls to a cap of film. Sparse patchy lace is left on the glass.

Aroma is sweet dark honey, buttery toffee, aged single malt Scotch, smoky peat and a note of grassy hop.

Mouthfeel has a sturdy medium body, restrained carbonation, and a note of burnt charcoal. Alcohol is smooth and warming.

Taste is bigtime malty, with buttery toffee and caramel all through the mouth and nose. Warming alcohol makes no effort to hide, but adds some nice heat as opposed to a distraction. Bittering hops add an earthy and grassy note, and some peaty char adds a pleasant complexity. Very tasty.

Nice American example of a Wee Heavy. Sticky sweet malts govern, with an assertive smoky character and ideal hop bitterness for a well executed complexity. Very enjoyable! Thanks to kmpitz2 for this superb bottle.

Pours dark mahogany and ruby colors with rather dense but sedate off-white head.
Aroma notes of burnt brown sugar, a hint of vanilla as well as caramel and chocolate notes. Some whiffs of peaty, smoky malts are alos detected as it warms.
Flavors noted include caramel and chocolate upfront followed by a hint of dark citrus and a twitch of apple wood smoking.
Mouthfeel is lighter than expected with a vicous hard alcohol base sort of cutting off too many flavors on the finish.
Drinkability is solid, the regular Warped Speed is more stylistic accurate IMO but this is a complex and enjoyable beer with just a bit too much alcholic threads.

Pours a dark amber to brown color. Grows a half inch thick, light brown colored head, that is quite dense and creamy. It sticks around for a while, leaving quite a bit of lace.

The aroma is intensely malty. You can tell it's gonna be a thick, chewy beer. Burnt sugar and caramel notes, some booziness and dark fruit esters. Not smokiness is evident, which I find to be great! I hate peat malt in my Scotch Ales.

The flavor is quite complex, just full of English malt richness. Definitely a lot of kettle caramelization going on here. Toffees and burnt sugar character upfront with some dark fruit esters coming in mid swallow and towards the finish. The finish is nicely balanced, somewhat boozy, but not hot and somehow it keeps from being overly sweet. Once again...no smoke. Excellent!

Heavy body, medium carbonation. Good complexity and great flavors. One of my favorites from a great brewery. Look forward to it every year.

Pours a full-on deep amber color with a light swirl of something over top. I wouldn't call it head, but its pretty cool looking. Nose is caramel and brown-sugary sweet, with notes of graham crackers and chocolate. Just hints of alcohol play in the back. Flavor is rather brown-sugar sweet, with a moderate burnt to smokey note and a bitterness that hangs on the finish, but it is not from hops. Nothing lingers too long. Feel is slightly syrupy slick, thick with a light carbonation. For 9%, this one really goes down smooth and doesn't let on to the alcohol content. The more I drink this one the more it grows on me. Glad I have some to hang onto and drink.

Thanks too nflmvp for a couple bottles of this beauty.

Pours muddy water brown, ruby hues throughout. Seme transparent. A small white head with thin lace sticks around for the show.

Big sweet toffee malt aromas with a sharp fruit esscence. Fresh fig and dried fig, as well as hints of raisin. A hint of black raspberry as well.

Very good and extremely drinkable. A toffee flavored milk shake. Not overly complex with depth but still much going on. Hints of bitter hop on the finish just too add length it seems. Semi sweet chocolate, again a variety of dried fig, raisin, blackberry, and a slight bit of almond on the finish.

Medium leaning toward thin mouthfeel.

got this one in a recent trade with autumnaldave. thanks dave!

12oz bottle. sampled july 1/08.

pours pale orangey brown with a thin ring of very fine off-white bubbles around the glass. spotty lace.

aroma is great. big malty punch up front. caramel. bread and biscuit malt. bit of vanilla. i get a bit of a sour edge to it too. honey. bit of dark fruit.

taste is good. bit of caramel and toffee. hint of butterscotch. earthy and woody. toasted multi-grain bread. bit of biscuit. low bitterness level, and even that comes across more roasty than hoppy. some nice dark fruit in here too, with a bit of raisin, date, and fig. bit of alcohol, but the 9% is fairly well hidden.

mouthfeel is good. silky smooth low carbonation. nice medium body.

drinkability is great. nicely balanced and very enjoyable. thanks dave for helping me to finally try this one!
