A: mostly yellow with a hint of orange. Crystal clear. Thin head. Nice lacing.

S: fruity/estery. A little lemon. Pepper.

T: fruity. Spicy. Peppery. Slightly sour. Floral. Tart.

M: highly carbonated. Dry.

O: this Saison is pretty good. I am not a huge fan of the flower addition. It overpowers the finish. Not bad. Not great.

Appearance. Lightly hazy gold with almost a finger of white head that fades to a skim.

Smell. Floral perfume and lime, light peppery green chiles, some fruity and spicy saison yeast.

Taste. Limes and herby floral perfume, light saison yeast and pepper.

Mouthfeel. Medium body, low carbonation.

Overall. Floral notes aren't really working for me, nothing terrible about this beer just not working for me.

22 oz bottle picked up at Brewer's Haven in Boise, but it is also at a few other places... Poured tonight into my FunkFest goblet.. Fairly clear dark golden brew... short lived white head and no real retention.

Aromas are surprisingly light given this palate... the nose shows peppery with some lesser fruit and tartness that I am having a hard time identifying.

Flowery elements are a bit heavier than expected right up front.. bitter hops are light and the peppery notes help balance a pretty light malty brew... just enough pale maltiness to come to the gate..

Light/medium body with a decent carbonation... doesn't seem exactly right, but no big deal by any stretch.

On tap at BC's Pizza and Beer

A: Pours deep golden yellow with a creamy white head that settles and laces nicely.

S: Spice hits first, then some caramel malt sweetness, a bit of fruitiness, and light saison "funk" for lack of a better term.

T: Light caramel sweetness up front, spice notes throughout, some fruitiness, but also a light tartness, and a light saison yeast funk.

M: Pretty crisp, medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: I'm not really much of a saison fan, but this one was pretty enjoyable and overall quite interesting.

Brewed with chrysanthemum, jasmine, and Szechuan peppercorns. Fortunately, there is not too much of any of them, though Caution Brewing in Denver makes a chrysanthemum IPA that is really good. Attractive clear golden amber with thin foam in the Troubadour tulip. No sediment at all in the bottle. Some tingle to start, but less carbonation than is typical.

There is a deep, honey-toned maltiness to start. Finishes with a bitter yeasty taste. The herbs add some additional bitterness. I don't actually taste any pepper. I couldn't say what jasmine tastes like, if anything, but there is a whiff of sweet flowers in the aroma. A little funk and pencil shavings, but persistently sweet. Kind of a spicy fruit salad.

A pleasant and interesting Saison, and yet another good one from the Northwest. The painted-on label has No. 2 on the neck, for some reason. 30th Anniversary collaboration with Breakside Brewing. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at the Community Co-op market in Bellingham.

a collaboration with breakside i think, and one of the weirder saisons ive had lately. loaded with perfume heavy floral character, its actually brewed with jasmine and chrysanthemum and some peppercorns. herbal to the max in this honey colored brew without much head. the bottle isnt old, but time may have affected this a bit, a hint of oxidation to the nose with the perfume, and a saison yeast that fights to get noticed there, maybe a little too delicate. there is a funny tang to the middle of this, not infected, but maybe not intentional either, so thats a distraction for all of us, but i personally like what all the flowers do to this, its really uplifting and original, and probably good for health. i wish for more carbonation though, this thing is just too flat for the style, feels heavy and thats exactly the opposite feeling these flavors are asking for. overall i appreciate the bold attempt at something out there, but think the execution is a bit flawed this time around.
