Poured 43 degrees Fahrenheit into a tulip glass. Born date: April 26th, 2011.

Pours a hazy light orange with an active and rapidly dissipating two finger white head. no lacing to speak of.

Smell is an excellently projected, and wonderfully layered and clean tangerine, apricot, pear and lemon.

Flavor is relatively reflected and maintained, with slightly less complexity than I was expecting. Finish consists of some light citrus hops that add bitters, but are safe, and nowhere close to being offensive.

Mouthfeel is pretty intensely disappointing. Lack of carbonation and weakness of weight really detracts from the taste IMO. Good balance of dryness and oil, but lifeless, and contradicting.

Sessionable, but at the end of the day, really sort of a letdown. The mouthfeel gives a decent nose and flavor an extraordinarily anemic quality that makes it a lot less fun. It's my wish that they had gone for cohesion instead of a drinkability that results in confliction.

Widmer citra blonde

Enjoyed in a shaker pint.

Pale honey in color, with amazing clarity. A thin, filmy head of grayish white sits atop.

Fruity nose. Pear, apricot and crackers balance perfectly with Citra hops, which lend their own notes of grass, sweet flowers and citrus peel. This is a pretty fantastic aroma.

The follow-through isn’t perfect, but the flavor does display most of what I got in the nose: citrus, floral stuff, orange blossom, grass, sweet apricot, peach. It’s still good, just not as bright as in the aroma.

Light carbonation amidst a medium-light body. As is propoer for such a summery brew, it’s fairly light on the palate, with a super dry finish.

While I wish the flavor did more to mimic the nose, this was surprisingly tasty. Crisp, summery and drinkable. Citrus hops in a blonde — who’d have thunk?

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Samuel Adams Boston Lager glass.

Appearance: Pours a pale, orange-gold color with a thin, fizzy head that dissipates quickly and leaves little lacing.

Smell: Smells strongly citrusy (orange and grapefruit) with a bit of spiciness in the aroma as well.

Taste: Starts off surprisingly hoppy for a summer wheat beer with citrusy, spicy hops. Finishes fairly malty with a bit of spiciness to it. Very well balanced with a bit more hops and malts than usual in a summer wheat beer.

Mouthfeel: Crisp and refreshing with a surprising amount of body.

Overall: A surprisingly unique summer brew. While it's a wheat beer, it has very little in common with most other breweries' summer seasonals. Perfectly balanced between hops and malts, this is an above-average, perfectly sessionable summer brew.

Bottled: 06JUL11

A: Pours a blonde ale with brilliant clarity and a transient single finger of off white foam which falls to nearly no sheet of the same. No lace.

S: Citra hops have lately become quite familiar to me, and they're present here. They are quite subdued compared to my recent exposure, but they are well applied in their tropical tastiness. Otherwise some underlying grainy malts are dry in character.

T: Lots of grain component, some hops are in here, but contribute little palate interaction. Grains are plain, unsweetened and raw tasting. A hint of flour.

M: Medium on light body with sharp and persistent carbonation. Dry finish.

O: The look and smell are nice, but the flavor is a substantial disappointment for me. One and done.

12oz bottle to Sam Adams Perfect Pint glass.

A: Pours a pale straw color, clear with medium to high effervescence. The bright white head is soapy and wispy and doesn't stick around or to the glass.

S: Great summer beer smell; light citrus hop/fruit skin presence with nice light spicy hop and floral notes, and a light grainy malt backbone.

T: Pretty decent, about what I'd expect from a Widmer Blonde. Grain and malty sweetness, bits of citrus and spices in the hop profile. Quaffable but admittedly not as good as the nose.

MF: Light mouthfeel, prickly carbonation, light dryness and low bitterness.

O: Wouldn't buy again, but would drink again. Nice use of Citra hops, but not a whole lot else there.

I'm becomming of the mindset that if a hoppy beer is being brewed with any hop other than the Citra variety, then that brewer is doing it wrong. This seriously seductive hop is good enough to salvage this otherwise bland and reckless ale.

Pouring a medium straw color with bright clarity, the beer releases a wave of carbonation that fuels an initial airy head of white foam, which falls rather quickly to a lace about the glass. No lacing and slight on retention, the lack of substance is taking a toll on its appearance.

The musty fruit aromas of ripe red grapefruit, pineapple, oranges, mangos, and appricots are sharp, vibrant and give the beer its saving identity. Lightly vegital with the essence of tea leaves, light corn, green tobacco, and raw barley all make their way into the relatively simplified scent.

The Citra flavor continues with is saving graces by delivering the same musty fruit flavor of dry hops along with fresh grassy notes, vegital character, and a grainy taste mixed with bruised oranges and tangerines. Slightly resiny with the fruity hop flavor that morphs into a mild balanced bitterness late, the balance remains with the hop flavor and eventual bitterenss. The thin grain flavor offers little in supporting the hops and leave the beer overly simplistic and lacking any rounded character other than hops.

Light throughout, the early carbonation proves fleeting and leaves the beer thin far sooner than it should. Grainy textures interfere with the hop dryness and give an lightly astringent bite that accompany the otherwise pleasantly bitter finish. Simply a watery texture for the majority of the session.

A linger of hop flavor and light bitterness remain in aftertaste, outlasing the vegital and grain flavors and encoraging the next drink. If any normal hop additions were made, this beer would struggle for respect, but it's saved by the rich citrusy flavor of the Citra hop.

Had this on tap at the Argonaut in DC. Served in a shaker pint.

Its got a clear pale straw hue with minimal head. It just looks really refreshing. I pickup faint grape must in the nose. The taste has some initial grape seed/must flavor with a nice crisp dry finish.

Overall I really enjoyed this one. Its a real summer thirst quencher!

On draft at The AXE! Typical golden golden with a quickly dissapearing white head. not much to get excited about there.
Aroma is very citrusy, fruity, hops. orange peel.
Citrusy hops dominate the taste but isn't overly bitter. Very good. Has a nice sweet finish that's short and doesn't linger too long. Light fizzy and refreshing. Good summer brew with enough flavor to keep you interested.

33cl brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into a Hefeweizen glass in low altitude Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live. I actually ended up opening a second bottle in June 2013 to review this in more detail; I liked it much more after growing accustomed to it. Served into a conical pint glass the second go around.

A: One finger head of slight cream, fair thickness, and average retention. Semitransparent orange-yellow colour. Appealing. Clear and translucent. No yeast particles are visible. No buble show.

Sm: Pale malts, cream, citra hops. Orange peel and light citrus notes.

T: Orange peel citrus ester hops, cream, a moderately full barley foundation, and unwelcome light pleasant bittering/citra hops on the climax. Not horribly complex. It's built well for what is and is trying new things. Good balance and build. Cracking open another cold one, I find myself quickly adjusting to the biting juicy citra hops. Gets more and more refreshing the more I drink it. Pleasantly balanced and very enjoyable. Lovely pale malt foundation. I like this a lot.

Mf: Nicely crisp. Good thickness. Smooth and wet, but a bit sharp alongside the bittering hops. Doesn't complement the flavour profile ideally, but it's pleasant and approachable. Refreshing. Biting.

Dr: Drinkable and enjoyable. I'd try it on draught. I could see this becoming quite a success in 6 packs. One of Widmer's more interesting beers, and certainly one of their most drinkable. Hides its ABV well. I think my initial review in 2011 may have been an old bottle. I'd recommend this to friends; it's interesting work.

12oz bottle dated 16 April 2011.

Pours a hazy yellow gold with a short but near creamy head that has good retention.

Aroma: highly citrus with hints of malt.

T - follows nose although the strong hop aroma is accompanied by plenty of hop/citrus flavor but little bitterness. Nicely tart. IBU = 20.

M - medium-light body; dry finish; excellent carbonation.

O - excellent summer seasonal. Neither rich nor complex, but very tasty, aromatic and refreshing. Citra hops dominate but Alchemy hops are also used.

(Lightly editted with May 2013 bottle consumed June 2013; and again in July 2014).

Poured from a 12oz brown bottle into a clear glass mug. Bottled on Jun 01 11 stamped on front-bottom of label. Single purchased at Ancona's (Ridgefield, CT) for $1.89.

A: Sunny golden with 1-finger of off-white big-bubbled head with below-average retention but a nice band of lace at the top of the glass.

S: The aroma is spot-on with the mix of orange citrus and earthy, light onion aroma that is unique to Citra. The malts don't contribute much but provide a subtle soft pale maltiness with a mild light fruitiness.

T: Everything a summer beer should be, and Widmer should continue on the tack they are on with lighter ABV beers, citrus-hop dominated beers (see Drifter Pale Ale), and cap it with a renaming of Widmer Hefeweizen to the American wheat ale it is. This beer needs a name overhaul, but it does not need a taste overhaul is any way shape or form. The flavor showcases the Citra hop's citrusy, earthy qualities and couples it with fruity pale maltiness that is light and on-target for this style. After Drifter, this is easily, Widmer's best beer.

M: Light-bodied and easy to drink with low-medium carbonation.

O: This fits well for summer beer styles -- light, drinkable, and distinctive with Citra hopping taking the lead with refreshing orange citrus and earthy, slightly oniony herbal combination that works well with subtly fruity pale maltiness. Great job Widmer.

Appearance - Bright yellow body with only half a finger of off-white head that died in less than 30 seconds.

Smell - I could smell this as I poured it, while I hate to use this as over used as it is, this smells just like summer. Citrus hops and even more fruitiness roll in.

Taste - Pretty spot on with the nose wet citrus maybe a hint of lemon. A tad grainy but not off putting in anyway, overall a bit mild.

Mouthfeel - Smooth, crisp and very refreshing. Light bodied little carbonation. So easy to session this one at 4.3%. I'd pick this over any lager for a nice summer day outside.

Overall - A nice change from the dozens of other summer brews that all taste like watered down beer with lemons mashed in. I would pick this up more often if it was an all year beer. That said go grab one and see for yourself.

Bottled 1 Jun 11

Pours a sparkling hay color with2 + fingers of fluffy cream colored head. Minimal head retention & lacing

S: Grassyness & lemon, some dustyness

T: Follows the nose, light bready notes, some dryness & crisp apple notes up front. More apple & some hay notes as this warms, some faint lemony hops as well as this warms. Finishes grassy with a touch of hay & lemon

MF: A touch thin, almost watery, decent carbonation level

A decent lawn-mower beer, but that's all I'll give it...

16 ounce pint - $6.25 at Taco Mac in Woodstock, Georgia.

Appearance: Fairly clear, yellow body with a surprisingly scant, white head.

Smell: Not just delicate, but faint nose of lightly malted barley and a vague, shaky impression of lemon.

Taste: Lightly grainy barley flavor, low sweetness, then, a minute resinous, then some citrus oil if the citrus component was very, very weak. Subdued bitterness. Soon, the hop character drops away, then, the malt character drops away, and you're left with a lonely, empty finish.

Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Overall: There're loads of other blondes I'd prefer to grab over this one. It's a bit of a snoozer, even for just a mild, meager blonde ale.

Enjoyed this one from the mixed 12 pack.

Poured from the bottle into a clean pint glass. Poured a very nice cloudy straw color, with a nice white 2 finger head.

Smell - Lots of citrus hops and crispness is immediately detected.

Taste - Light and crisp, yet full of flavor. I really like this summer brew. The flavor of the hops is very refreshing and light, I could have a lot of these with no problem.

Mouthfeel- Light to medium at best.

Overall - Very nice beer from Widmer. I bet it would be even better on tap. Great for those hot summer days.

Pours a crystal clear gold color with a 1 inch bubbly white head that settles to a thin cap. Decent rings of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is delicious with lots of citrus and tropical fruit aromas mixed with a spicy herbal scent. Taste is of the citrus and tropical fruits up front with a solid malty backbone on the finish. Little bitterness on the palate after each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a crisp and smooth mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good solid blonde ale with very nice fruity aromas and tastes.

t: upfront is a soft lemony flavor... almost sour as it hits the front of the tongue.. as it rolls back, some grain comes in along with soft tropical fruit flavors.. also some orange flavors but nothing over the top.. backend has light lemon peel bitterness along with some grain..some breadiness does linger.. cleanses the palate..

mf: body is light-medium with good carbonation to make it a thirst quencher.. semi-dry finish on the end.

12 oz bottle pours a lightly hazed gold color with a short-lived white head. Bubbly retention and collar.

Nose is citra-licious. I love this hop, so bright and tropical fruity. Biscuity, clean malt and smells almost like there might be some wheat in here. Smells good, real good.

This is one of the most refreshing beers I have ever had. The flavor is very clean and in no way overbearing. Bitterness is light, but the hop flavor comes through nicely. The malt is very crisp and snappy...husky grains and saltine cracker crumbs. Very well crafted, easy drinking summer brew. Citra hop lovers will dig this brew on a hot day.

12 ounce bottle, bottled on June 29, 2011. Served in a pint glass, the beer pours a clear gold color with about an inch off-white head. The head sticks around for a while, and there's a good amount of lacing left on the glass, too. Aroma is citrus (tropical fruit, lemon peel) and floral hops, along with some bready malt. The brew tastes like citrusy (tropical fruit, grapefruit) hops, light floral hops, bready malt and some orange peel. Mouthfeel/body is light, it's a bit creamy, crisp and clean, and is well carbonated. It's also very smooth and easy to drink. At 4.3% ABV, it wouldn't be hard to drink quite a few of these in a session. It's a good beer for a hot day, I think I might have just found my new summer brew!

Poured from a bottle into a mug.

A Pours a clear golden color with a fairly thick head that has some good retention.

S A nice but light nose with lots of sweet citrus notes.

T More citrus with some biscuit like malt in the background and a hint of bitterness.

M A very pleasant light mouthfeel, quite enjoyable.

Overall I think that this is a great summer session beer. Its light pleasant to drink with good flavors. Perfect for a summer cookout, or as a lawnmower beer on a hot day.

A: Poured from the bottle into a pint glass. Body is yellow - not golden, light yellow - with a 1-finger, bubbly white head. No lace.

S: Nice - florally hops, citrus (grapefruit & lemon) and tropical fruit. Not overwhelmingly strong, but pleasantly hoppy. Underlying bready malt is there too.

T: Some bread-doughy malt underneath, followed by citrus and tropical fruity hop notes with some floral hops as well. Finishes fairly clean.

M: Body is light in heft. Carbonation is gentle but present.

O: A good drinking beer on a hot summer day - I put down 5 of these on Saturday this past weekend without even noticing. The low ABV helps, while the nice flavor imparted from those Citra hops keeps it flavorful enough to be interesting.

S: Smells of exotic fruits: passionfruit and guava I get. Some citrus from the hops. Some cereal grains underneath that. Very fruity and light smelling.

T: The taste does not have nearly the fruitiness that comes through in the nose. Light malts, hops and citrus. Well balanced and easy to drink.

M: Light body, medium carbonation.

O: A nice, light summer ale. Well balanced, fruity, hoppy and just a little bit malty
