A- Copper color, decent head, not much for lacing

S- This does not smell like an IPA at all to me. Malty, not much on the hops at all, quite disappointing. Does have a soapy taste

T- Balanced, but no hop bite, some malty biscuit. Wanting more hops.

M- Moderate carbonation, mouthfeel is off.

D- I am not impressed, was not much of a Widmer fan until the X114 and sadly will return to that status. I wish they would make the X114 a year round brew. The Falconer is not awful, but its nowhere close to what I would expect of American or west coast IPA- weak showing comparable to their previous offerings.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

My insurance company never bought me a falcon... Anyway, this stuff pours a clear amber topped by a finger of off-white foam. The nose comprises light orange zest, buttery biscuit, light flowers, and a touch of sweet toffee. The taste is dominated by a stinging ruby red grapefruit rind bitterness, with some light caramel and grass lying beneath, hoping to catch a crumb from the oppressive elite. No such luck, kids: time to starve. Yeah, that kept going, but that's just 'cause I wanted to get my mind off of the terrible taste still rampaging through my mouth. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a dry finish. Overall, I don't know what went wrong with this beer, but it is downright awful-tasting. My tongue still kinda hurts from it. Boo.

12 oz single from Roth’s Vista Market ,Salem. $1.35 typical burnt orange body with a nice, thick and frothy eggshell white head. not liking the aroma..this is the type of IPA aroma that puts me off pungent green onion..though it gets Ok after the first few deep sniffs. Taste ..bland really..sweet malty..grassy hop...slightly fruity..meh. Ok i suppose on the palate..nothing to write home about. Another dissapointment from the Rotator series..im not sure am i missing something?

Pint on draft at Atlas Bar.

Pours a deep clear copper color with about a 1" white head that sustains pretty well.

Smell is bready/grainy with some pine. A bit too malt forward for an IPA.

Taste is similar. Strong bready and caramel malt bakcbone with some slightly astringent pine dry bitter finish. Hints of some wood as well give it a unique taste.

Mouthfeel is good with good carbonation.

Perfectly drinkable beer although the dry bitter finish may make having more than 1-2 of these unpalatable. Nothing horrible, but nothing great either.

Appearance- Clear copper color with an off white head and tons of sticky lacing. 4/5

Smell- There isn't much of an aroma, but I do smell a grassy hops. 2/5

Taste- Sweet malt with a very big bitterness to back it up. The bitterness stays with you for quite awhile. 3.5/5

Mouthfeel- Thicker than I typically like. Gets a little thicker as it warms. 2.5/5

Overall- I was really looking forward to this but have to admit I am a little disappointed. 3/5

Glass - Nonic

A - Copper color with good clarity. It produced a dense and fluffy looking 3-finger head that held very well. A bit of C02 can be seen and it left some nice lacing on my glass.

S - One of the first things I noticed was a bready, sweet aroma. I get soft pineapple, grapefruit and tangerine notes but nothing bright. I also pick up a bit of pine notes, soft smelling IPA for the most part.

T - Having just had the Drifter Pale Ale I gotta say that this IPA tastes very very similar. Upfront I get toasted bread notes with biscuit and cracker everywhere. The malty flavors are sorta combined with rind, grapefruit, pine, and herbal/leafy hop flavors. Bitterness is decent for an IPA and it lingers around for awhile as well.

M - Medium bodied with soft carbonation and a bit of a slick feel to it.

O - Overall It tastes like a slightly beefed up version of the Drifter Pale Ale. I wonder if they just added slightly more hops and malt while making the Drifter and came up with this. I think it's an alright IPA. Nothing special. I'm also not a fan of the herbal/dry/musky/leafy flavors that are present in this beer and the Drifter. Worth a try but I think there's much better IPA's out there for around the same price.

Purchased at Bier Thirty over in Bown last night.. Poured into my small CC goblet... The head drops pretty quickly.. nice lacing ... decent cap... the brew is a hazed light amber.

Nose has a good pungent hoppiness.. grapefruit zest and pine comb.. with an interesting tropical fruity profile... odd.. the malts seem a touch too high and even show some dark toast....

Big bitterness out of the gate.. the bitter bite blows things out of the water.. citrus and something that I associate with more tropical hops.... maybe some melon... but the flavor pretty much drops into the bitterness and trails on forever... some dry toasty malt presence shows on the finish with shelf warmth.

Bitter --- hoppy --- bitter again ... seems thin with malts ... definitely one dimensional... A decent PNW IPA, but loses all the intricacies...

I doubt I will buy this one again... odd and not that good... and certainly not very enjoyable.

I love the concept of this series, but this beer was lacking somewhat. I'm not sure if I dont love the Falconer hop or if there was a problem with executuion. I just was'nt in love. A generic hop flavor at best. I expected something way more interesting from a single hop beer. And, from a new hop. But this was just good, not great.

Reviewed 12/24/2011 as follows:

Poured from bottle to pint glass. Beer pours a dark orange almost brown color with a small 1/2 finger tannish white head with some retention and little lacing. Interesting mix of floral hops and toffee character on the nose, unusual though not bad. Starts with a rush of floral hops followed by a mild bitterness and tiny barley profile. The toffee character on the nose follows and finishes the beer. Not a lot of flavor actually. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, unimpressive. I much preferred the X-114 to this beer. Not a lot of flavor. And the nose, while unusual, is the best aspect of the beer.

A - Copper colored, modest head. Cloudy with lots of activity.

S - Candied sugar, some fruit

T - Sweet caramal malts up front, with some bittering, quick finish. Lacking in depth and hop punch I come to expect in an American IPA

M - Creamy smooth and clean

While refreshing, too sweet for me. I prefer their pale ale.

Poured into a standard pint a clear copper with a thinner lacy white head that left broken rings of lace behind as it settled into a thin layer.a ix of leafy hops and juicy fruity malt in the nose, the hops are a little subdued for the style but the malt aromas are nice.More of a pale ale on the palate than ipa with its big sweetish malt profile, there is a shot of citric hops but it doesn't really hit home.I'ts a decent beer but it lacks in the ipa department in my opinion.

Widmer rotator falconers flight

A- beer pours a deep golden-copper color with some orange. Nice 1-1/2 finger off white frothy head. Leaves decent lacing. 4

S- grapefruit, orange zest, pine, light bready malt scent, light alcohol scent. 3.5

T- bitter grapefruit and other citrus upfront, pine, slight maliness, alcohol and a slight taste like mineraly or or maybe it's a metallic taste. Kind of strange. 3

M- good mouthfeel and carbonation. 3.5
O- this beer is good but it's very one note. Nothing special here. Worth a try if nothing is better on tap. Not worth a try at 7.99 a 4-pack. At that price it's a flat out rip off. 3

C+ (generous rating. Based on price it's a C)

Falconers IPA pours a golden color, with a nice creamy long lasting lacing head. There is a sweet malty aroma. The taste is lighter, a sweeter floral, a wet malty aftertaste. A bit of a sweet mess, but noticeable flavors. Overall its a sweet malty based IPA.

12oz bottle
Served in a perfect pint glass

A - It is orange with gold highlights. It has a slight haze. There is two inches of beige head with pretty good clinging power.

S - I get a lot of sweet malt aromas. I get some caramel and toffee. The hops come through with some minor citrus notes.

T - This is a malt forward ipa. The hops are definitely not pronounced. I am on my third, and I have just a little bitterness in my mouth. It's mostly grapefruit.

M - Low carbonation with a medium mouthfeel.

O - I thought I may have had an old sixer until I read some other reviews. The hops are hidden compared to most ipa's. It is more like a pale ale.

12oz bottle from a sixer that cost me $8.49. Dark orange color, not much head but some sticky lacing on the glass. Smells like alcohol and fruit but not exactly citrus. The taste is alcohol, some fruit (again not citrus), more alcohol. Overall this has too much of an alcohol flavor for me, I preferred the X-114 a lot more.

A: A deep amber color that is crystal clear. One finger of white head with low retention.

S: Grapefruit and pine. The smell didn't knock my socks off.

T: Tastes like fresh grapefruit flesh with a hint of pine. Earthy flavor as you let it sit in your mouth for an extra second. Nice bitterness and just enough malt for balance.

M: Body is a little light for an IPA, and the carbonation is on the higher side. Mouthfeel is a touch oily.

O: A solid, but not mind blowing IPA. Better than your average for the budget variety IPA.

A - Nice shade of amber with a fluffy, tall, white head that settles into a pillowy, lacey layer.

S - Fruity, hoppy goodness in the nose. Becomes subdued as the head fades. Slight alcohol.

T - Of course the hops are there, with notes of pine, wood, smoke, alcohol, caramelized sugar. The alcohol seems to dominate.

M/D - Can be a bit cloying and monotonous after a while. Smooth with little carbonation. Noticeable alcohol in the finish.

Widmer's rotator IPA series with experimental hops. There is a citrus hop aroma along with some bitterness. Medium body and smooth finish make it easy to drink. However this is an average West Coast IPA. Overall it is worth buying a 6 pack during the summer months.

[Best served in a Shaker glass]

The pour was a medium copper orange with an average sized (1-2 finger) off white rocky head that had great retention, lasting throughout with some great sticky lacing.

The aroma was of caramel malts, floral and citrus hops and an earthy yeast with notes of caramel and grapefruit.

The taste was at first sweetly malty with a huge note of caramel and then slowly became nice and hoppy with a note of citrus (grapefruit) at the end. The flavor lasted a very long time proceeding the swallow with a good strong hoppy taste left on the taste buds.

Mouthfeel was somewhere between light and medium in body and dry in texture with a prickly carbonation.

Overall an IPA that started mildly malty and a tad sweet but ended BIG in the hops department...

Nice orange color, mostly clear, decent head and pretty good lace.

Lots of earthy pungent malts, fruity citrus, grassy notes, a little oily pine.

For an IPA it's pretty malty, but not bad. Pungent malts, some citrus peel and pine, a little fruitiness.

Body is light to medium and moderately carbonated, earthy bitter malty aftertaste.

It's not my fav from Widmer but it's not bad.

Dark yellow with even some auburn edge to it, darker than your average ipa. Aroma was hoppy, whatever Falconer's are, they are similar to C hop blends.

All barley malt here, this one is thick. Dropped a lot of caramel and toffee. Wish they would have used lighter malts/roasting, to allow a new kind of hop/blend to stand out a little more.

Decent enough, but the malt base was too heavy.

Sits a clear copper with a quarter finger head. Thin but good lacing on the glass. A very floral hop scent greets your nose first, slightly herbal and pungent. Sweet malt is pretty prevalent once the hops subside a bit. Sweet malt turns bitter in taste, then grassy hops finish the beer bitter. Lots of carbonation balances what could be a too-viscous malty mouthfeel.

This is a decent IPA with good hop aroma. The malt is balanced with well chosen hop varietals. This could have been too malty, but the right amount of bitterness and carbonation offset it enough to showcase the malt bill without making it too viscous. An easily drinkable beer, I'd reach for this most nights if given the chance.

Poured from the standard 12 oz glass bottle. Bought a 12 pack for $14.99.

Pours a copper/amber clear color. Looks a little more viscous than it is. It has a nice one finger off white head.

Bready, hoppy, malty are the strong fumes that hit me first. It has kinda of a soapy smell I really can't put my finger on. Smells OK.

The taste is pretty hoppy off the bat with a meaty backbone that is earthy, bready, and sweet. Really no sign of alcohol. A piney finish that is quite bitter.

The mouthfeel is good with a fair amount of carbonation. The bitterness might stop it from being a session beer, but pretty drinkable for the price.

Good beer by Widmer, but I would rather have a Torpedo being the same price.

Pours a clear, copper color with a large, off-white color that hangs around for quite some time. Scent is quite lovely. Nice citrus and hop aroma. Taste is where this beer is somewhat lacking. A bit more watered down than the nose leads us to believe. The hops are a bit faded as the malt balances it out a bit. Some citrus and pine as well. Mouthfeel is on the lighter side. Drinkability is high. Overall, this is not a bad IPA whatsoever. For the price, I would definitely purchase it again.

Look: Orangish brown in color with a 1/4 inch head and ok retention

Smell: Floral hops upfront and in your face with a nice touch of toffee on the back end

Taste: Exactly how the thing smells is what you get on your palate which is actually quite impressive of a feat but not all that impressive of a flavor profile

Mouthfeel: Medium body and medium carbonation

Overall: Just another example of a boring yet drinkable beer from Widmer
