12oz. bottle to standard pint glass
Bottled Aug – 2012

A: The Flaconers IPA pours a light caramel amber color with some haziness to it and a good half finger of khaki tan head. There is some ample hang time and a bit of wavy cling down the glass.

S: Smells of gooseberry, melon, peach, and some lemon zest. Hops are pungent with a bit pine and some catty musk. I get undercurrents of some caramelized malt sugars and a warm breadiness. Real pleasant and unexpected hop aromas here.

T: Tastes pop with some real hoppy goodness. More gooseberry. The Citra really delivers out of the Falconer’s blend. Melon, pine, citrus fruits, and a touch of some exotic flora. There is a dash of caramel sweetness and a bit of bready malt base to carry an upper level of bitterness. Has a nice puckering bite. Alcohol is well masked with just a slight warming sensation added. A very nice surprise.

M: There a relatively light to moderate feel with a somewhat creamy texture. Nice bitter bite and crisp factor from the carbonation. Finishes on the wet side.

D: This was surprisingly good for the deal you get out of purchasing a case. Very drinkable with a great hoppy punch and some nice fruity flavors.
Felt like drinking a subpar Sculpin…which is still quite good. Would definitely pick up again.

Pours a brilliant copper color with a solid one inch eggy head that slowly dissipates, leaving sheets of lacing.

Caramel malt aroma mingles with grapefruit pith, earthy hops (smells like peas), dankness, and a bready chewiness. Pretty sure it's dry hopped with amarillo.

Flavor is less characterful, with bittering hops taking center stage, and a lackluster showing from citrus flavoring hops. There's a hint of grapefruit and pine, along with some resinous hop character to provide intrigue to the bready malt backbone. The finish is fairly peppery.

Body is moderate, with moderate carbonation and a slightly dry finish.

Overall, a modest ipa, fairly malt centric with some yummy hop character. Nice citrus and resin.

Bottle poured into pint glass

A... clear copper color with 1" off white head. Very nice, sticky lacing on the glass.

S...VERY floral. Lots of sweet citrus with a little bif of pine behind it. Smells delicious.

T...Wow. hoppy bitterness right up front. Nicely complex, lots of flavors going on here. There is a nice fruity taste and the bitterness gives it a clean finish. A little sweet for an IPA.

M...perfect carbonation. Very nice, lighter bodied feel to it. I could easily drink a couple too many of these on a Summer evening.

O...Surprisingly good. I have really liked some of Widmers rotator IPA's. Killer deal too $14/12 pack. This is a nice beer. A little sweeter than the Rotator Shaddock IPA. Pick some up.

Into the standard pint glass results in a slightly hazy body with a nice fluffy half inch head that clings to the glass, nice. The aroma is fruit forward, I get pineapple, Kiwi, ripe peach and floral hops. Taste is on the sweet side of the IPA spectrum, malt, honey, biscuit. Carbonation is just right with a nice cascade of bubbles throughout the glass.
Wow, I didn't know Widmer had this in them! And it's a bargain to boot! Going to go down to the market and snag some more of this pronto! Well done.

Appearance - Pours a clear, brilliant orange amber with an off-white, near 2 finger head. Decent retention. The resulting lace is thin, but consistent and somewhat sticky.

Smell - Notes of citrus and stonefruit; somewhere between peach and apricot. A bready malt aroma can be found sitting beneath.

Taste - Starts fruity and citric, mixing it up nicely with a lightly toasted, bready malt backbone. Bitterness creeps in about midtaste, then finishes with strong bitter orange pith that rings true well into the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with some lively carbonation. Bites quick, then smooths out.

Overall - When I first had the O'Ryely and Spiced IPA, I thought Widmer had no clue in what they were doing with these Rotator IPA's - the Shaddock and Falconer's IPA has proven otherwise. This is a damn solid IPA. Reminds me of Stone's IPA.

12oz bottle
Served in a perfect pint glass

A - It is orange with gold highlights. It has a slight haze. There is two inches of beige head with pretty good clinging power.

S - I get a lot of sweet malt aromas. I get some caramel and toffee. The hops come through with some minor citrus notes.

T - This is a malt forward ipa. The hops are definitely not pronounced. I am on my third, and I have just a little bitterness in my mouth. It's mostly grapefruit.

M - Low carbonation with a medium mouthfeel.

O - I thought I may have had an old sixer until I read some other reviews. The hops are hidden compared to most ipa's. It is more like a pale ale.

Half finger head on a clear amber with crimson hues body. Excellent lacing. Aroma is mild with some grapefruit and mild earthy notes but overall very mild. Malt forward IPA with candied oranges, earthy and slight floral notes. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Overall a nice IPA, not too memorable.

A little darker than average pour, slight light brown intrusion, dark copper. Aroma was hoppy, falconer's hops seem like a little more bitter cascades.

A heavy malt mouthfeel, this is a big bodied 'single' ipa. The hopping is nice, but between the six pack I had, I noticed the beer didn't have much sturdiness, after a few weeks it was a very different beer. Hope you like caramel, toffee, tea and grapefruit. Could have just as easily believed this was a hoppy brown ale.

Good enough, the thing I like about these Widmer rotating ipas is that they're all unique, but they're not just different for the sake of being different, you get some enjoyable actual different takes on the ipa style.

The beer pours a clear orange color with a white head. The aroma is very fruity, with some grapes, cherries and pine notes mixed in with some toffee. The flavor is similar. I get orange and cherry with biscuit malt and a low amount of bitterness. I also get a little bit of pine, but the fruit notes from the hops stand out more. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Not bad.
