Bottle (2012)

Thanks for the gift, Alucard4!

A dark pink and light purple in the glass with very small, almost no, head. This leaves the glass clean on its way down.

A sweet, sugary, and floral aroma. There's definite berry character and what I suppose is the hibiscus. A bit of a salt character as well. Enjoyable and appropriate, especially for the style.

The flavor too is sweet and floral with decent berry character and a definite saline character. Very easy drinking.

Medium bodied with low carbonation.

Enjoyable.

I am trying to reduce some of the bottle backlog here at Chez Woody and especially by focusing on styles other than my usual AIPAs and DIPAs. If nothing else, it has been interesting what has surfaced from the depths.

From the bottle: "Goseanna!"; "Perfecting the Art of Tart".

I Pop!ped the cap and utilized a gentle pour since this beer had some age and I did not want to disturb the lees. I certainly poured pretty enough, with a finger of pink head that looked like fresh-spun cotton candy before it fell to wisps. Color was a pinkish-Amber (SRM = N/A) with NE-quality clarity. The nose had a pronounced berry sweetness, kind of like Mixed Fruit jelly. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium. The taste was salty and sweet, but not very sour or tart. I have been saying all along that I am not really big on sours and tart beers, so this was more to my liking. I found it interesting that I went from extremely tart and salty to much less so. Had I known, I might have gone the opposite direction, but this was okay by me. The finish was semi-dry and again, more my speed. This certainly was not a traditional Gose, but I liked it as the anomaly this evening. It finished with a light salty-fruitiness that really has to be tried to understand.

From tasting notes. Had on tap at the Bryant Lake Bowl. It pours hazy pink under a 1” pinkish white foam collar. The aromas are all berry. There is light malt on the palate but berries dominate and in the background some light tartness to balance and a dash of salt. In the background there is a flavor vaguely similar to rose hips that is probably hibiscus. The gose tartness and salt keep this from becoming a high school date beer.

aged unintentially for about 2 years. Oops.

Looks kinda neat in the glass. Like Cherry or raspberry cider. Nice glowy burnt orange/red. Possibly like Hibiscus. Might be reading into the label too much though.

Smells like nothing. Well, not nothing, just some very faint unripened berries. Cranberries maybe. Marionberries? What are those?

Tastes like Fizzy tea soda. Like one would get at a chinese garden at the tea hut. fun for the kids!

Feel is like tea.

Don't want to repeat this fresh. Cannot imagine any impact would be had here.
