Poured into an Elysian snifter. Pours a dark caramel amber with slight ruby tones. A eigth inch odd-white head with great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, boubon, vanilla, oak, light stone fruit and orange, slightly boozy. Flavor follows aroma with caramel malt, boozy bourbon, toffee, light stone fruit and mild citrus, vanilla and oak. Hot and a bit ethanol forward. Finishes with a grassy hop bitterness. Medium bodied with a slick creaminess. A hot, but otherwise moderately flavored ale that leaned more towards a barleywine than an old ale, because the biscuit and toasty malt of the latter are subdued here. There is some moderate complexity and a decent balance of flavors, but this tastes young and alchohol forward. Nice oak and moderated bourbon barrel flavors. I may pick up another bottle of this to see how it ages.
