Brasserie de Silly has taken their signature Silly Sour and taken it to a whole new level. Completely unblended Sour ale, this beer lacks the 13-15% saison normally blended into Silly Sour. The result is a deep garnet colored beer with aromas of tart cherries and raspberries. The intial taste is puckeringly sour with a soft sweet undertone and a thick lactic acid heavy mouthfeel. While the finish is not cloying, it lingers more than its original version.

750ml bottle into a tulip. Couldn't find any freshness dating.

Looks pretty good in the glass. Dark, dark red body. Small off white head persists in good form throughout, leaving decent lacing.

Light dark fruit aroma.

On tasting, though the brewer speaks of cherry and raspberry, this tastes very grape-like. It's fairly sour, no woodiness, which would have helped.

Mouth medium, finish a slightly sour grape.

Overall, a little disappointing. Didn't have a good sourness, no wood, and the fruit notes were not as expected.

Appearance: Pours a semi-hazy, mahogany red; wimpy head, low retention; mid to low lacing; bubbles floating on top; white ring around glass
Smell: Sweet laced with sour, funky, oaky, woodsy, cherry with hints of raspberry; smell perfectly matches the color.
Taste: Subtly sweet at the top with notes of oak and cherry. What follows is a small punch of sour in the finish with tastes of woodsy malt, cherry, and light notes of raspberry.
Feel: Medium-bodied; effervescent burn is present.
Overall: Pretty darn good. I especially like the interplay between sweet and sour here. I really wished the head was beefy with good retention, but ah well!

Served as a taster at Yard House

Appearance: Copper/light brown with a tan head with medium retention and slightly firm.
Aroma: Grape Jelly (Welch's Concord) and not much else. It was hard to get past the grape jelly to other flavors. Hops were low to none, as was the malt.
Taste: Grape Jelly/Jolly Rancher. Very candied. A firm sourness that I would call a 3.5 of 5. Sourness felt primarily lactic and lacked complexity. No discernable malt or hop notes on the tongue. The beer had a very slight amount of bitterness.
Mouthfeel: Medium body and medium carbonation. I'd put the carbonation more on the standard pressure used by Yard House than on the beer itself.
Finish: Slightly sweet, which could have been an enduring impression from the grape candy on the aroma and flavor. Sourness was sharp and did not linger.

Overall I found this beer to be mostly one-note and not typical for what I expect of an Oud Bruin. Blind, I would place this beer closer to an American Sour or Kettle Sour. For me, it lacked the complexity and oak character I typically associate with classic Oud Bruin like Liefmans Goudeband or Petrus Oud Bruin.

Saturated orange with ample lacing. Smells and tastes like grape jelly. Saccharine. Lactic acid spiked, fairly dumbed down, the name is very appropriate. Zero finesse or nuance. Cash grab sour ale, highly doubtful this ever saw a barrel.
