New bottle design, the label now has Demeter, the Godess of Spring and Fertility on it.

Poured very nicely, good clean light amber colour with a solid white foaming head, which stayed for the whole pint.

Floral, slight hoppy aroma, nothing heavy, but pleasant and almost sweet.

The Maris Otter barley gives the whole beer a slightly sweetish flavour, which in my taste, gave it a weaker mouthfeel than I had hoped for. The beer is still very, very drinkable.

500ml clear bottle...tut tut

Pours with a light amber body, thin white head with pretty poor retention

Smell, fresh grassy hops. Floral, lavender and some hints of vanilla.

Taste, Marzipan, lavender, fresh grass. Slight crisp hop bite but not lasting, biscuity malt finish

A solid pale ale, refreshing and good on a hot summer day

Smell : hoppy and fruity aromas.
Taste and mouthfeel : hopped flavours, with bitter finish.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of March 2012. ABV is stated as 4.3%. Features an image of Demeter, goddess of spring and fertility, on the front label.

Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. A clear golden-amber colour with strong carbonation. Yields a good head of white foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding to a thick surface layer. Aroma of malt with notes of stewed hops and grain. Also hints of caramel, butterscotch and solvent.

Tastes of golden malt with a dry bitter finish. Slightly sweet. Notes of stewed hops dominate, although hints of burnt malt, caramel and butter are also present. Dry hoppy bitterness, although well balanced with the malt. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with a mild astringent character. Aftertaste of malt and stewed hops.

A decent ale, although I would have preferred more aromatic hops and less stewed leaf flavour. I'm not a fan of the stewed leaf notes that seem to characterise some of their beer, but this one is more balanced than some other Bateman's brews I've tried recently. Drinkable....
