A fresh coffee and chocolate experience infused with genuine Arabica coffee beans and fine Belgian chocolate, blended with locally grown roasted malts, creating a tremendous coffee shop aroma and flavour. and generous hop flavour.

Really pleasantly surprised by this beer, which - by the way - is hard to pigeon hole. More 'strong ale' than porter, and yet this beer is really chocolately; even moreso than some actual chocolate porters out there; and not the advent calendar type chocolate, but creamy and thick and rich. There is a real mocha element to this which I didn't expect.

It is not a full bodied beer - strong ale, remember, not porter or stout - and yet it doesn't matter. The coffee and cocoa are well equipped which makes up for the defecit in mouthfeel. I'm usually a big advocater of body in a dark ale but this one seems to have everything under control despite the lighter nature.

It brings a nice bitterness to the mocha sweetness with roast and cream in spades; and yet it's clear ruby red. Madness.

Found a hidden gem here, lads. Give it a whirl.

333 ml bottle, B and M stores, Bristol. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Medium carbonation. Smell - coffee, dark chocolate. Taste - roasted coffee, dark chocolate, caramel. Not bad brew instead of an espresso.

Picked this up at a great beer shop in Darmstadt, Germany, Maruhn Welt der Getränke. Dark mahogany pour with a quickly fading one finger beige head with minimal lacing. The nose is malty and sweet with lots of cocoa along with hints of toffee, tootsie rolls, dark chocolate, caramel, subtle roast coffee, and vanilla. The taste mirrors the nose with the cocoa the star once again along with hints of caramel, toffee, dark chocolate, tootsie rolls, and coffee. The mouthfeel is a bit thin for a beer like this, with medium carbonation and decent drinkability. Overall, this may be a bit gimmicky and thin, but the chocolate doesn't taste artificial and it's really not a bad beer.

500ml bottle served into a nonic pint glass

Look: Like flat Coke. Dark brown, almost black, with ruby highlights when held up to the light. What little head there was disappeared extremely quickly. Not a good start ...

Smell: On slightly firmer ground here - the bottle proclaims chocolate and coffee, as if being called Mocha wasn't enough of a clue - and sure enough, there's chocolate and coffee aplenty. Plenty of sweeter overtones too, almost like chocolate syrup mixed with honey. A colleague noted that it smelt a lot like Tia Maria or coffee liqueur.

Taste: There's that chocolate syrup again, front and centre. Coffee flavours are muted to begin with but come through at the end along with roasted malts and just a hint of alcohol to keep things interesting. Imagine alcoholic chocolate syrup and you're not far off.

Feel: Quite a 'thin' feel - the almost complete lack of head and the flat coke vibe made this pretty much a given. Fairly fizzy, too - far more than something needs to be at 6% ABV.

Overall: Not too bad, but there are better chocolate/coffee beers out there - Young's Double Chocolate Stout and Bad Seed Espresso Stout to name but two, to say nothing of Sam Smiths Organic Chocolate Stout. I think this is a beer with a bit of an identity crisis - it's trying to be a stout or a porter but doesn't quite make it. Worth trying, but nothing special.

Served from 500ml bottle into straight pint glass at cellar temperature.

A) Ruby-dark red, not quite opaque, when poured seemed fizzy, no head at all. Hmm. Not appetising.

S) Chocolate-hazelnut wafers. Honey and some vanilla. No beer.

T) Chocolate syrup up front, followed by mild to warm malt flavour. Back of the mouth hints of vanilla. Pleasant.

M) Smooth, slightly fizzier than it needs to be. 6% alcohol is well masked, but provides some nice warmth right at the end. Good.

O) A good chocolate beer; serve at approx. 15 degrees C.

Light-medium sweet and moderately malty.
Chocolate dominates the coffee in the aroma but not in the flavor where they are rather equal.

O: very good but not up with Youngs Dbl Choc.
