The namesake, Wayne Mahaffey, had been running this bar until the late-2010's when long time managers bought the business, but that hasn't changed the atmosphere or the beer selection. This is a hybrid of a neighborhood/ locals bar. You will not generally see a lot of tourist making their way into here, mostly everyone knows everyone here.
Mahaffey's pub is best been known for its three-for happy hour deal. Basically you can select from 10+ different on tap beers options, on cask or draught, so long as they're not in bold and get a 10 oz pour, mix and match all three, doesn't matter the same price. Moreover, this bar offers weekly food deals, most people tend to go here for the wing-night on Wednesday's, but taco-Tuesdays brings in a fair share of people too. The burger day also brings in a lot of people, but Wednesday's are typically packed wall to wall.
There is a big problem with the food though. Their fryer is located in the front of the shop and right when you walk in so when they're prepping wings or anything fried, you will reak of oil when you leave out of there. My buddies and I used to call it "MAHAFFEY'S CURSE" - since you will smell of burnt oil and it will linger in your nose all night. Not to mention for many years the hood and the area's around it were caked in oil. Customer service can be hit or miss, I've had a few less than stellar experiences here.
The beer selection is generally above average, sometimes the taps are taken over by a brand for the night/ weekend and will feature some limited runs of products, though in most cases the beers are above average in rating. There are bottle condition beers but it is limited. This location does have cask style beer too. If you're looking for cocktails, this isn't the spot, but there is plenty of good Titos for mixing here though.

A solid neighborhood place with a very nice rotating selection. Food is notably better than nearby Max's on Broadway and not nearly as crowded, definitely scores bonus points for 3 10z mugs of any draft for $6 during HH. My only reservation: the available selections in both bottles and particularly on draft tend to lean towards alcobombs (8%+) which can make it difficult to session drink at Mahaffey's, as well as making it difficult to introduce beer novices.

This place consistently, and continuously has a great selection of rotating beers on tap. They always have fun events planned. And who doesn't like a good challenge. Drink 100 unique beers and have your name on the wall, with different rewards for every 100 milestone. Great small neighborhood bar that beats out the overly loud, and too crowded mainstream craft beer establishments.

While the appearance of this pub is dreary you will find it to be a place you will want to return regularly. It is a pub that makes drinking beer a "Beer Festival" 365 days a year. It accomplishes what beer lovers travel many miles each year to "Beer Mecca" (Denver)for the GABF. To sample the many brewers/beers you have heard and read about but never had access to or could afford in the typical local pub/bar or liquor stores. How does it accomplish this?
1) Of its 20+ draft taps three quarters are devoted to out of the area craft breweries.
2) The selection rotates weekly.
3) No INBEV beers are allowed on tap.
4) During the week from opening thru 7PM if you order three 10 oz. mugs at the same time they are $5 total!
The above allows both experienced and novice beer drinkers the opportunity to sample and not worry about not liking a selection. It is not costing him the traditional $8 for a 16 oz mug. But what I really like about this pub is I always find another customer, whether 21 yr to 75 yr old--rich or not--from completely opposite socio-economic circumstances, to have long and topically diverse conversations. Mahaffey's serves as both a Beer Festival and a United Nations. Every time I visit I have meet a new person I consider a friend. Enough Said!!!
PS---Check the geographic diversity of the reviewers of Mahaffey's. Beer lovers from New York, Rhode Island as well as Baltimore appreciate tipping a few or more with Wayne the owner! You will as well as HE is the reason why this pub is the #1 rated Bar for 2013 in a Baltimore Sun paper poll!

Mahaffey's is one of those local corner bars that are on every other corner in Canton but there is a lot that sets it apart. The crew there loves beer and loves their customers. The rotating taps are quite impressive for an otherwise unassuming bar. They Happy Hour specials are one of the best in town. 3 10oz beers for $5. When I lived in Canton I had 2 buddies who would go to happy hour with me and each one of us choose a tap and score 3 drinks for a round. It was the perfect 3 man happy hour rotation. So hey. Grab 2 friends and hit this place up for happy hour. It's a small place though and gets packed almost all the time but it's a good crowd and people there are used to maneuvering in close quarters. Just get in where ya fit in.
