Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. The label lists the abv at 4.2% and there is a short description of the beer as well.

Appearance: It has a dark reddish garnet colored body with a small just off white head on top. This head settles quickly leaving a thin film of lacing that just hangs on.

Smell: It is light overall and has some odd earthy and leathery notes with some light toasted bready maltiness.

Taste / Palate: It’s flavor matches the aroma perfectly and both the flavor and palate feels light, subtle and thin. Overall I like what’s here but I would just like a little more.

Deep brown colored with a moderate amount of light seeping through. A half inch of off white to light khaki colored foam covers the top. Aroma of malt powder and a bit of chocolate. The body is light, smooth and creamy. I get malt powder and chocolate in the flavor with a very gentle note of bittering hops. This is a subtle yet tasty, sessionable beer.

Dark cola brown appearance, with a big khaki beige head forms thick and the lacing clings to the sides of the glass I'm drinking from. Aroma hints of dark ripened fruit with a prominent roasted malt character mild leafy herbal tobacco like hop offerings. Flavors express themselves as roasted malt hints of toffee an English style dark mild with minimal flavor but expressive hints of good beer are here. Good to know I can get this style now in a grocery store in America, I applaud this effort and every other micro like beer they continue to release. The low alcohol beer tends to save some miles on the old liver, and for that I enjoy this lower alcohol offering even more so. It's not up to the flavor level that I would like to have but it's a solid crossover beer even keeled carbonation smooth going down, overall this is a beer that the masses will find revolutionary. For me it's just okay, but I'm not sad that I gave it a go.

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter.

A: Poured dark reddish brown with a good size head that settles to a thin layer but leaves good lacing.

S: Mild, with roasted grains, some caramel, and a hint of coffee.

F: The flavor follows, but with some light hops at the finish... and not as strong as hoped. Pretty well balanced.

M: Crisp yet smooth; dry finish; medium-thin body.

O: A good looking brew, with good flavor for style and for a 4.2% ABV.

12 ounce bottle poured into a pint glass.

A - Very dark, almost black with a foamy, but fleeting head that gave way to decent lacing.

S - Chocolate and roasted malt and grains.

T - Sweet chocolate with some coffee and roasted malts.

M - Smooth with moderate carbonation.

O - This reminded me of a good porter than anything else.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into my Samuel Smith nonik.

Clear sienna body with ruby highlights and a faint yet lasting smattering of beige foam up top. Slight, sandy lacing; decent retention.

Gentle aromatics are a blend of fruity esters (kiwi, berries, etc.) and roast malt notes (toffee, hazelnuts, stale coffee, etc.).

Sweet clean malt dominates the flavor profile, supported by an earthy/leafy/nutty/charred array of roast flavors. Mild peppery bitterness helps balance out the sweetness leading into a light medium finish. Smokey, mineral-laden, almost vegetal aftertaste brings to mind river stones.

Light bodied, vaguely acrid, slightly thin mouth-feel.

Lacks character compared to the better versions of the style, but not bad overall.

I always like English milds. nice dark appearance with a quickly vanishing white head. In the light it has a red color. Smell is mild hops and sweet malts. Taste is the winner here. Medium baked bread with earthy hops that mellow to a light toffee. Mouthfeel is lacking and dissapates quickly.

pours dark reddish brown, definitely not black. Faint malt smell, nothing impressive about the scent at all. Thin mouthfeel, slight coffee and cola notes but very bland. The flavors fade before they even develop. Easy drinking for a "black ale" but I could not justify this beer's existence, as in my opinion it brings absolutely nothing interesting or unique to the table, and is certainly no classic example of the form.
