Dude from the distributor was in the store when I went in for a Shakespeare Stout. They didn't have a six pack of it in stock. He was a company that distributed this beer and recommended this Porter and I loved it. Great beer. Give it a try.

Appearance - Pours near black with ruby brown highlights when held to light. The head is khaki in color and peaks at a fingers width. Fair retention before dissipating to a thin, broken layer of suds. Lacing consists of broken lines and spotting.

Smell - The aroma consists of roasted malt and lesser chocolate .

Taste - Notes of roast gives an impression of coffee and chocolate; Mocha-like. Slightly earthy. A touch of oat flavor rides beneath. Fairly clean finish, but with lingering roast.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with fair carbonation. Super slick texture lends to a stupid easy drinking experience.

Overall - Oatmeal? and in a porter? I've had enough weakly flavored oatmeal stouts to doubt an oatmeal porter, but rest assured this thing packs a nice, flavorful punch. Nothing necessarily to seek out as a must-have, but if you're looking for a porter and happen to run across this, give it a shot.

My first offering from Highland and it was somewhat good and somewhat so-so.

Being partial to the dark beer arts, when I noticed this oatmeal porter at my local liquor store I decided to give it a try. From the bottle it pours a beautifully dark brew, nice tan and thick head, but little lacing to mention. The head, though, has a small amount of staying power. The smell was chocolaty, malty and robust, but the mouthfeel was disappointingly watery, more watery than any beer I have had in recent memory. The taste was alright - I could pull out those chocolaty notes and there was the robustness I smelled, but it didn't have a wow factor to it. Overall, it is a very decent brew, sorta sessionable due to its watery feel and one I would try again to give it another shot.
