Pours a ver dark but thin looking brown with a slight tan head that goes away immediately. Ends up looking slightly creamy in the glass. Carbonation level seems right for style.

Smell is prettly slight for being labeled as a coffee porter. Of what is there coffee dominates with notes of chocolate malt.

Taste is coffee upfront, but not overpowering. Roasty, chocolate flavors follow but nothing dominates. Very slight sourness in the finish.

Mouthfeel is very good for the style, Smooth and creamy without feeling heavy. Nice level of carbonation.

Overall this is a solid but not great beer (like most of highland's offerings). At the very least it's better than their oatmeal porter. Personally though, if a porter/stout is going to put coffee in its name then i'd like to see that note be a little more dominant than it is here.

Wow - what a complex, delicious beer! Of course, if you don't like coffee and don't like bitter brews, best you not give this one a try.

Pours a dark black with a foamy, tan 1" head. The smell is of roasted coffee with slight caramel/candy overtones. Taste is, you guessed it, a strong hit of coffee, bitter, and just an overall complex, satisfying mouthfeel. Clearly this is not a session beer, although if you wanted to have a few of these over the course of 4 or 5 hours, you'd be in for a satisfying treat.

With Thanksgiving coming up, this would be a great dessert beer.

A - Pours a thin coffee, black color with a tan head that fizzles away quickly but leaves a good ring of lacing.

S - Dark chocolate with some earthy malt tones and some fresh oats.

T - Dark chocolate and a burnt coffee flavor. Some malts in there too.

M - mild/medium carbonation but a flat finish.

O - Not bad. Prefer their oatmeal porter.

Nice retention on the pour. Aromas and flavors are in line with each other. Fairly roasty, with some chocolate malt and black coffee. The bitterness is moderate. The body is an excellent example of a porter other than I got a little bit of chalkyness from it. Very enjoyable.

A: a rich black with a creamy tan head.

S: Strong roast dominates the aroma. Bits of chocolate swirl in and out. Dark coffee and a bit of a nutty sweetness.

T: Once again, a very dark strong roast. full coffee flavor. slight earth bitterness. the finish is a tad nutty with a little bitter cocoa. bitter coffee roast finish.

M: Thin with a long bitter coffee finish.

O: A very solid offering. The mouthfeel is fantastic i think. Light and easy to drink but packing a punch with flavor. a perfect winter session porter! /85

A - Pours a black color (brown base) with a thin tan head and good lacing.

S - Coffee, roasted malts, some cocoa.

T - Coffee flavors, but seems a little muted. roasted malts as well. Tasty, but not particularly bold.

M - Thinner than one would expect, but it works and the beer is very creamy and drinkable. Good carbonation.

O - Highland has created a very drinkable, if not particularly bold coffee porter. Tasty, and something to try if you want a sessionable coffee porter.

A - Black as night body. Thin white head that recedes quickly. No lacing apparent.

S - Strong coffee smell up front. Very earthy and roasty in aroma. Some sweet vanilla and caramel towards the end.

T - A ton of coffee flavor up front. Very bold tasting, similar to espresso. Moderate astringency and mineral taste after the coffee which isn't pleasant. Some roast towards the end.

M - Heavy-medium bodied with moderate carbonation and a slight alcohol burn.

O - An overall decent beer. A lot of minor things could be improved. I'd like a lot more complexity in the flavor to start with. The coffee contributes to the astringency but it's a bit over the top still.

12 oz bottle poured into NoDa snifter

L: Extremely dark brown bordering on black. About a finger of tan head with good lacing. After the head faded it left a halo around the glass.

S: Roasted coffee and chocolate malts dominates the smell.

T: Roasty malts, coffee and a slight sweetness.

F: Medium body. It's actually lighter in body than it looks.

Recommendation by the guys at Sams. Hm lets see.

It pours almost black with no head. What bubbles and head are left are off white.

Smells like breakfast stout. Oh lord, I think Highland may have it based on the smell alone. Hints of dark chocolate come in as well. Smells like a lighter version of FBS. A little less balanced as well.

Taste is full of coffee and dark chocolate mixed in with alot of roast. It actually reminds me more of Founders Porter than FBS, except it has more coffee. The coffee presence reminds me Bell's Java Stout than FBS. It tastes like a cup of strong coffee. Taste isnt really overwhelming, but its there. It kind of leaves a dry nutty feeling, probably from the coffee.

Body is light, and almost bitter. It definitely feels bitter. Black coffee and roasted malts really take over. The coffee really destroys your palate and makes it difficult to really get a sense of whats going on.

Half finger tab head on a dark black body with some light passing through. Little lacing. Aroma is a little light coffee and chocolate notes. Not much else. Sweet and mildly smokey porter flavor with a light coffee note throughtout. They didn't go crazy with the coffee on this one. Lighter body than I was expecting with moderate to high carbonation. Overall a standard coffee porter, very drinkable but not super memorable.
