Highland Brewing

Da Boss and i took the brewery tour on 2-11-23 after having a very nice BBQ lunch from one of the food trucks and a pint of doppelbock.

Vibe was cool with plenty of outside space to sit not to mention the volleyball courts, disc golf course, and hiking trail. Inside plenty of space to park at one of the many tables available.

Quality of their beers are very good. The consistency has been striking from the outside and when taking the tour knowing they have a staff of four monitoring all fermenting beers to ensure quality is awesome. They are not afraid to "drain pour" a bad batch.

Service was impeccable from the time to we arrived, ordering the first beer, and then to be made to feel special on the tour by being handed a taster to start the tour, during the tour, and then the flight at the end was cool!

Selection was solid with maybe 15-20 beers available as well as carryout from the gift shop.

Overall i recommend the tour and go when food is available, makes for a nice 3–4-hour time spent there!

Stopped in early afternoon with the wife. Had a flight of Oatmeal Porter, Clawhammer Marzen, Gaelic Ale, & Festbier. All three a good quality enjoyable beers. Still leaned toward the Clawhammer of the four. The brewery is outside of downtown, which I actually liked because it has plenty of parking. roomy inside with a outdoor seating on the entry deck. They had a decent variety of beer; however, it leans more IPA & Sours than it probably did years ago. I like IPA's but prefer lagers and they had two seasonals this time (Marzen and Festbier) that they probably would not normally have in the lager category. Good space, quality beer. Definitely visit there if in town for the first time.

 

 

 

Easily my favorite craft brewery i've visited thus far. Now there hasn't been a whole lot as if yet, but this will be hard to best. Did not take the tour, the timing was off. Excellent spacious interior, the outside area, I think it's called the meadow was enjoyable. What made the visit memorable were the folks working there. Knowledgable, courteous, friendly and nice. The NC pioneers hit a Homerun with this place.

Reggae Sundays are a must when visiting Highland. I love the beertenders and the meadow when the weather is nice. It's a good mix of locals and visitors. Great beer selection and always good food trucks.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

North Carolina native here, and I've been to many local hotspots--from small town breweries to big guys who started small.
I appreciate Highland in many ways. Of course their beer is tasty (they offer a black saison now that's very nice), but a brewery is more than the beer, isn't it? It's also about the experience.
The brewery tour was free, with free samples of their flagship beer, Gaelic Ale. An informative guide led us through the place, which included a meadow on the right side of the property, where live music is often played.
The bar area is large and comfortable. The draught selection is broken into large batch and small batch brews--the small batches, as I understand, are only available on location.
I enjoyed my time at Highland, moreso than the other two nearby breweries I visited that day. These folks have a small operation, ran on big ideas and greater levels of quality.

Everything I look for in a great place to go on a Saturday with my beautiful wife.

Great city, easy to find.
Easy parking, no charges...scenery - it's a given in WNC
Spacious patio area entrance into comfortable small venue with small pro stage in corner - interesting fans and great positive vibes from quality clientele who love great beer, 2 awesome smelling food trucks parked in easy place to see...

Great informative brewery tour, with sampling of Gaelic Ale. Top notch staff and ownership, who are also usually around somewhere....the beers are incredible, and the staff knows their craft. Small batch Paul's Dark Mild, one of my all time top beers! A must see for any brew lover !

 

 

Went on the tour, which I think is worth your time, this is a brewery worth checking out if in the area. They have a nice selection of brews all done very well and an interesting venue that hosts many different events. Wish I would have been there a month later when they would be serving their Marzen Clawhammer.

 

 

They had a reggae band playing the night we were there - loved the facility and the beers aren't bad. Food trucks out front.

This is a big building with food trucks parked outside and a bunch of folks enjoying beers in the sunshine. Inside there is a large bar on the one side next to the gift shop area. A big stage is in the back and picnic tables and hitops are through the place. All the standard beers were on draft with a few small batch brews. The beers we had were fresh and tasty. The IPA is now made in a west coast style, and was really good. This should be on everyone's tour of the area.

A good brewery to visit when in Asheville. I felt the beers were all solid, the location was good, and the layout/feel was pretty good. Service was not bad. THe place was not that busy, but there was only one bartender so always quite a long line. Worth a visit.

The staff at the brewery was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Greatly enjoyed the tour. Bar selection was great.

 

Original large tasting room, and a new roof top deck, the meadow, and upper level tasting/event rooms. (no more closing because of a private event).

Huge change in beer offerings, all for the good. New Brewer, and apparently a goal to expand the product line have produced some great beers.

Service can be iffy at the bar... some time great, sometimes you feel you are invisible as the younger and prettier are served.

 

 

Good small batch list

 

The place is huge and they hold indoor concerts there on occasion. Beer selection is fairly varied, but limited to those brewed in house. When crowded, such as during concerts, service is adequate, at best. Under normal conditions, the service is quite good. Beer quality is rather good, but nothing is world class, yet.
