Stopped by about 6:30pm on 06/10/08.

The beer selection on draft is pretty standard stuff in the British Pub world: Guinness, Bass and company. Their Guinness pour is done very well. They have Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on draft as well. Plenty of macros in bottles, which made up over half of the beers I saw being consumed.

Food is pretty much average (my burger was a little dry but the fries were okay) and was served quickly. However, the waitress had to be flagged down for service. Every time.

The crowd is your typical youngish hipsters and sports enthususiasts. The Lakers were in a playoff game that night and I could barely hold a conversation across the table due to the shouting.

A completely unessential stop. If you're looking for British pubbery in Santa Monica, you can do a little better if you just keep walking towards the water a couple of blocks and hit Ye Olde King's Head. It's not awesome, but the food, atompshere and beer selection are a smidge better than Britannia.

This is a great place to stop and have a quick pint when one tires of shopping or watching the street perfromers.

The Britannia is located close to the third street promenade in Santa Monica. This is a very busy outdoor mall. There is a large indoor mall where third street ends. Locals shopping and a ton of tourists will be at this mall day and night. It is best to park in one of the parking garages instead of driving around trying to find a free spot or a meter. Parking in this part of Santa Monica can be rough.

A small L shaped wooden bar to the right of the front door. A few tables and chairs downstairs in front and along the side wall across from the bar leading to the back. A nice small patio in front allows for that euro cafe style and good people watching. Upstairs has a few more tables, one pool table and a video game. No darts. They have plenty of t.v.s up and downstairs. Soccer(futbol, footie) and American sports are shown. Mirrors and beer signs are all over the walls. Some older signs and some for beers they do not even sell. Britannia has many framed posters of H.M.S. ships including Titanic. Also shipping souvenirs are framed as well. Tickets, logs, schedules etc. A very warm and inviting feeling to this pub.

Aside from people ducking in to escape the rigors of shopping, the sun or needing a bite there were quite a few regulars even in the afternoon that I was there. They knew the bartener or other employees. I also noticed quite a few British sounding folks. It has its transplants from the British Isles as well. A very friendly group of people.

The service is very friendly and fast. The bartender the day I was there was very happy and fun to talk to. A gracious and gregarious personality. The employees really help the overall warm feeling the atmosphere of this pub has.

Sadly the beer selection is pretty standard. On tap: Guinness, Harp, Stella Artois, Heineken, Bass, Widmer's and Strongbow cider. In the bottle is pretty standard as well. Macros, Pacifico, New Castle and O'douls. They have Boddington's in the can as well. This place also sports a full bar and has a few inexpensive bottles of wine.

I did not try the food but I asked a couple of people and they highly recommend it. From the looks of the menu it is pretty standard bar food.

Overall this place may not have the greatest selection of beers. It does have very friendly employees, regulars and it has a nice warm feel inside. A very enjoyable place to have a quick one or two.
