This light golden colored ale is named for the nearby affluent area of Marin County. Head retention was very thin but lacing not bad. Aroma was of fresh hay but was very faint. This is a very flaorful blonde, I detected some serious malt, a touch of lemon, some nuttiness, and the floral hoppiness that characterizes this breweries beers. Refreshing and drinkable, one of the better blonde ales I have had.

Visited the brewery itself, hadn’t had the beer before. Off flavors abound, they clearly don’t take good care of their draft system and the bartenders did not know how to pour a glass with the right amount of head. Smell overwhelmingly mildewy, look and mouthfeel we’re fine (pretty average), taste was pungent and hard to get down, tasted more like a skunked lager than a blonde ale which was weird.

Had this beer at a fair in Sausolito.
It appears golden yellow, maybe a little haze, and it's malt aroma suggested pilsner malt to me. No strong hop aromas. Taste is lightly sweet, with balanced bitterness. Maybe not too special, but this one goes down easy on a warm day.

Presentation: Sampled on draft at the Marin Brewing Company in Larkspur during a recent trip North. Managed to snag a US Pint for $4.00.

Appearance: Pale yellow-straw gold with a thin but retentive white head. Fading head leaves a thin unbroken stretched head. Conditioning is visible.

Nose: Low in strength. Hard work to get anything from it. Straw like with a very delicate pale malt back end. Hints of grain and grass. Sounds intriguing when described but this is really just inoffensive in so much as it is almost non existent.

Taste: Nice citric lemon sharpness keeps the sweeter malts at bay throughout. Crisp with some grassy hops, not quite clean, it has a mild spicy hop middle with a herbal finish. Tilts towards a Blonde Ale with some low key hops to raise the stakes. The taste profile definitely rescues this brew from bland-dom.

Mouthfeel: Nicely carbonated the pint had a milky swirl that took a little time to settle after each mouthful. But it never gets out of hand and always has a medium body.

Drinkability: Washed down my Bowl of Split Pea Soup, hunk of Bread and Caesar Salad with little effort, an easy food partner, but I think it would become rather bland with the stronger tasting foods.

Overall: Above average effort, a very crisp, easy drinking Blonde that has a distinctive American hop feel to it. But it suffers from a bland nose and taste profile that is just a little too delicate when placed alongside external influences. In short, make sure that this is the *first* brew that you try when you get to Marin if you want to get the best from it.

RBSG09 on tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear straw color with a thin off-white head. Cereal grain aroma, evocative of soggy cheerios. Flavor is nearly identical but with a whisper of fruitiness. Light bodied and nicely carbonated but not interesting enough or refreshing enough to make me want more.

This beer pours a hazy golden color with little to no head (poured out of a growler). The smell is faint, and must be teased out with some swirrling but is reminicent of other blondes with a slight citris flavor and a yeasty kick. The taste starts very mellow, then creeps in with a bitter-sour mixture of (again) citris and yeast. Very little malts are apparent in the taste, and very little development as it sits in the mouth. Blondes are traditionally harder to make than other brews, and this fact comes across in this offering. I suppose its worth a try if you're at the brewery but dont go out of your way to pick one up.

A:Pale straw in color, with nice head retention and tight carbonation.

S: Grainy which is expected.

T: Full of flavor with serious malts and hints of lemon zest, with an enjoyable subtle nuttiness.

M: Light to medium mouthfeel

All complimented by a floral hoppiness that’s very refreshing, lightly sweet with a balanced bitterness that’s goes down easy.

O: Nicely balanced blonde
