1552nd Review on BA
Draft to Pint
@City Beer Store, San Francisco, CA
App- One of those beers that youve never heard of and you look at it and say wow. Hope it tastes as good as it looks. Its a lighter medium brown with some lighter highlights. A big puffy and creamy white head. Great cling down the sides.
Smell- There was nothing really amazing on this one but just a solid porter all the way around. It was malty, a little roasty and huge amounts of chocolate. Again, solid but not anything over the top.
Taste- Whereas the nose doesnt make me thing OMG! The flavor does. Some porters try to be a chocolate type of flavor and its a bit flat. This however was over the top chocolate and roast. A very nice and decadent beer. Wouldve made some great dessert pairings.
Mouth- A bit of a lighter medium body with a lighter medium carbonation. Really is just solid. Nothing to say again OMG over but a solid feel and good residual chocolate malts.
Drink- The individual parts equal a very above average beer. However, the individual APP and Taste are very special

On-tap @ Blue Palms Brewhouse - served in a goblet. This batch comes in at 8.5%.
Opaque, seal brown liquid with a dense fluffy wheat-colored mattress of foam. Pasty lacing, superior retention.
Deep bittersweet roasted notes of specialty malt, cocoa nibs and wood in the nose.
Rich roasted malt of varying depths are joined by god quality bittersweet chocolate and sweet leafy malt notes as well. The malt keeps coming in successive waves and is accompanied by a low bitterness and an almost tannic pond-water note with hints of raw tobacco as well. Nice dry finish gets right to the point.
Medium-bodied, velvety, and rich on the tongue.
Has some elements of a Baltic porter besides the Imperial/American signifiers. Not quite as good as Point Reyes Porter, but I wish this were more regularly available none-the-less.

Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate.
This was quite the delicious brew. I can remember tasting a very dark roasted malts along with a complimenting dark chocolate. It was on tap, 6$ for a 10oz tulip. I personally thought it was amazing, then again, it was St. Paddy's day.
I had been drinking dark beer all day and it was the last one (well sort of) of the night. Such a delicious night cap. 10%abv was actually kind of surprising. I mean, it was a full bodied beer, but I could definitely see myself drinking more than a few of these tasty libations. I don't believe they bottle this, I sure wish that they did.

A: Dark black ink. Dark as any stout. Proper brownish head. Great retension. Awesome lace.
S: They're brewing in here today, so all I can smell is the wort!
T: Perfect for the style. Rich and complex. The dark roasted malts and the high ABV make this one taste much more like a stout.
M: Coats the mouth with roasted/smokey flavor. Great c02 tickles the tounge.
D: Very High. This Imperial porter hides the 9.5%really well. So tasty it could really get you in trouble since the alcohol profile is completely in disguise.

So the Airporter makes an apperance from time to time on their taps. I think it was orignially an anniversary imprerial porter that is now an occasional special tap. Anyway, it's on right now and I also got to sample of bottle of the oak aged version in bottle. This review is of the tap version.
Deep dark colored with some ruby highlights when held up to the light. Small head is O.K. in a beer with this ABV and so much roast malt.
Smell is deep roast malt and lots of fruity esters. Not a lot of hops but some adn nice base malt aromas too.
Flavor is a huge beer. Lots of base malt and caramel malt and big chocolate and dark roast malt. I get a whole bunch of deep dark pit fruit yeast effect and a slight aftertaste of hops that keeps it from seeming sweet.
Big mouthfeel and body with a creamy carbonation.
This a really nice big beer. Drinks much less strong than it is but you know drinking it that it packs a punch so I went easy. One glass is all.
