Stopped here on a Friday afternoon on my way up to an outdoor party. it was worth a side trip.

The atmosphere was okay. I don't think the atmosphere quite matches Chili's, as one reviewer puts it. But it does seem to lack a sense of being at a brewery. This is my only time here, so my evaluation of the atmosphere may not be too accurate. The people there were pretty mellow and it didn't seem like an uptight place at all.

The service was good. I see complaints about the service at the bar. That's a given when the bar is full. You can't set expectations when they're serving drinks for the whole brewpub (it's a huge place). We sat a table outside and had no problems with service. The waitress was friendly and did us right. The plus side about this place is that in the mall where they are located they have a patio. Not only do they provide service here, but will provide service, including booze, to anywhere outside the patio inside the open space that is part of the mall. I've never seen this in Southern California (where I live).

The food was good. Notches above the typical pub grub food. I had a custom buffalo chicken salad and they did a fine job. The pizza was good.

The only complaint was that they ran out of the hefe weizen before we got there. Other than that, I set up some expectations based on the bottled beers. I started with their IPA which was decent. I went with their Point Reyes Porter and next their Breakout Stout. I'm going to compare the last two beers at the same time. The reason so is because to me they tasted similar and the others in my group felt the same way. They were both good, having a slightly smoky presence I like in porters and stouts. Both were exemplary of their types and their finish stuck on the palette for a long time. The stout had a little more body than the porter. Personally, I'll take the porter as the taste seems to come out more. but they were excellent beers.

Overall, this is definitely worth a side trip or part of a brewco tour.

I recently stopped in here on a trip to Northern California. The inside hosts a brewery, bar, and restaurant and I got a definite sports bar type vibe all around. The bartender was quite nice and attentive when I stopped in. They had around 15 beers on tap, most of which they already bottle, and a few one offs. They also can sell certain bottles for on site consumption or to go. The quality of everything was good.

Definite local hot spot, but parking is a nightmare in that center. Get a table outside if you can (and whether permits), but indoor seating is OK too. Food is on the better side of pub grub.

MBC was one of the first brew pubs to open in the bay. The beers have been consistantly good for a loooong time. Unfortunately though, the food and service at the brewpub has taken a steep dive over the years.
