Deep, dark brown topped with a thin cream lace. Some floral in the nose, but that's about it. Thickish mouthfeel, quite fruity and layered of butterscotch (diacetyl) under the malt sweetness. Light bitterness with an appealing floral / herbal character.

Not too bad, but not much of a Scotch Ale. Fruity sweetness seemed out of place and obtrusive.

Brutopia "Scotch Ale"
On tap at the brewpub, 5 Octobre 2014

Notes: Hazy russet brown body beneath an off-white/yellowed head of froth. Aroma: Butterscotch, caramel and fruit. Flavor follows the aroma. Malty. Fruit displays a combination of red berries and subtle dark skinned fruit. Nutty. Apparently Canadians just can't do Scotch Ale properly. The fruitiness is a bit too bold, and the butterscotch (dactyl) needs to be toned down. However, taken hedonistically without and reference to style it's a fairly enjoyable beer. I might not have two in a row, but I might have one at the start of the night and then one later on.

I had this ale a few time and I must agree with everyone that commented here. The first time I had a real and true Scotch Ale, a good one. The second time it wasnt, not the same taste at all. Maybe a hit or miss I cannot say. For the first time, it had good Scotch ale characteristics, the second time it tasted more like a strong stout.

Poured a deep amber hue with a slight white head. There was decent retention and lacing.

The smell featured a light smokey malt and some caramel.

The taste consisted of an upfront moderately sweet malt, some smokey earthiness and a utilitarian flowery hop.

The mouthfeel was of average fullness for the style.

Overall a rather shallow malt bill. Nothing too exciting.

Pours a dark brown with reddish highlights, clear, small off white head forms, little lace. Smell is caramel chocolate, slight floral hopping. Taste is sweet malt, caramel, some floral hops, coffee, some grass and a little alcohol. Mouthfeel is smooth with aggressive medium-high carbonation, medium mouthfeel, very coating and vinous. Maybe they changed their recipe because it did not taste like how others described it here. Although not really a scotch ale I enjoyed this and recommend it.
