Also known as Stiegl Gaudi Radler Shandy (Lemon)

Best Stiegl-Goldbräu blended with lemonade made with real lemon juice results in a sparkling, invigorating taste that appeals to women and men alike. Its delicate hints of citrus and fresh aroma are the reason why this naturally cloudy Radler is one of Austria's most popular beverages.

Poured from a 500mL can into a pint glass, also my first Radler, or beertail in general.

On the pour a fine 1 finger white head forms then relatively quickly recedes to a pretty thick covering over the beer. Carbonation is light and fine in a hazy straw yellow body.

Aroma is a sanpeligrino style lemon right up front that covers most of the beer aspects of this drink. Some lager notes do poke through with a light crakcery malt and some fermentation notes. The citrus dominates, as I expected.

Flavor follows the aroma but the lemon is less prominent and tart than I expected. Very clean but a bit overly sweet right up front, I wish this was more tart. Once the sweetness fades there's a pretty nice almost balancing and at least relatively dry crackery and bready helles malt and beer flavor that goes surprisingly well with the lemonade. A bit sweet and I wish there was more beer and fresh lemon.

Feel is easy drinking and almost wine cooler like with the fermentation notes and high sugar. Relatively thin but with a sugary mouth coating feel that is common with lemonade and sodas. Hard to rate mouthfeel as beer, seeing as beer is just a component of this drink, but it's easy to put down and leaves you wanting more with a bit of light beer feel.

Overall I wasn't blown away and I'm sure it's similar to canned cocktails, if you got goldbrau and some real lemonade you could probably make a better version of this. It's pretty good but again I wish it was more beery and also more tart from the lemon.

4-pack of 16oz cans from my trusted liquor store.
Very much on the lemon side of things but super refreshing and easy to drink.

500 mL can from Superstore; best before May 19 2022 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a foggy pale straw yellow colour, supporting nearly a finger of smooth, foamy, sparkling white head. It holds together for a few minutes, but is soon whittled down to a filmy cap and frothy collar - looks as expected for a lemon radler. Lemon juice and lemonade on the nose; nothing fancy here, but the aroma does have the right ratio of tartness to sweetness, and it comes off as zesty and authentic (rather than artificial).

A quality lemon radler/shandy. A little sugary at the forefront, with lemon juice tartness soon giving way to lemonade and hints of grainy cereals and pale malts; the lemonade sweetness carries through the finish and lingers into the aftertaste. Light in body, with aggressive carbonation that feels prickly on the tongue, remaining lively well into the course of the glass; unbelievably easy to drink, and very refreshing.

Final Grade: 3.94, a B+. Stiegl Radler Zitrone is sweet, but not too sweet - of course, this beer is also marketed as a shandy in certain regions, so that sweetness is to be expected. Strictly speaking, I am not usually a fan of sweet fruit beers, but this one is so crisp, light and refreshing that it actually works out surprisingly well - I could totally see this hitting the spot on a hot summer afternoon as a lawnmower beer. Possibly the best lemon beer I've tried to date - worth a try for sure, and something I'll return to at some point, but I'd still take their grapefruit radler over this one 8 or 9 times out of 10.

Poured from the can into a nonic(k) pint glass.

Muted and opaque body color of slightly dull lemon yellow, and pale straw like colors also. Head creation is fluffy and creamy looking. Head tops at a nice three easy plus fingers, has eggshell whipping cream like foam consistency too.

Aroma is rich on lemon like flavors. Hits a mix of sweetness and bitterness zest with some nice lemon oil sensations. A real simple one note beer but a real good one on the nose.

Palate seems to get the job done. Neutral base with a simple backbone and mouthfeel, just nearly creamy but not quite. Flavors of big lemon with a good sweetness and an oily bitterness just like the nose hints at. Limited soda qualities, but a good hint of lemonade like sweetness but not too much. There's a touch of leafy to lemon bitterness on this one just a touch.

Simple and refreshing and gets the job done.

Even, thin head and hazy, pale yellow body. Pretty sweet smell, mostly lemon, some bready malt. Not much going on. Taste is simple and clean. Very sweet, lemony, some breadlines, and a bit of cream. No hops. It tastes kinda like a lemon meringue pie, though not quite as tart. Feel is wet, moderate carbonation.
It’s refreshing, it’s simple. Those two things are done well. It could benefit from being a bit more sour, or even from some hoppy bitterness, but hey. Sometimes you need simple.

Very pale semi hazy yellow. Smells almost exactly like sprite with a lemonhead dropped in it. Taste is dominated by candied lemon peels and undertones of lemon cleaner. It's very sweet and there's not much malt flavor or hop bitterness that comes through- just enough to balance it. This goes down incredibly easily and it's very refreshing.

the lemon one is really good, a very natural fruit flavor, seems lighter in feel to me than the grapefruit one, and i love how low alcohol these are, perfect for summer sessions, or firing back up on a hangover. nice pale yellow color to this, insanely fizzy from the can and holding a high white head, looks great, a little cleaner than the grapefruit one. it smells lemon first, with the base beer a bit obscured by the potency of the fruit, but its summery and appealing, a little tart too even, very natural. the flavor is a little bit sweet, and its obviously a soda not a juice thing blended in, and it maybe is sweeter than i want to drink a ton of, but when its good and cold, it doesnt bother me much, and the finish is still on the drier side with some lager yeast, lemon tang, and effervescent carbonation. the malt base is super light on this, there are some earthy minerals crisping it up, and the refreshment factor overall here is very high. really solid overall, maybe kind of a mass appeal thing, but for a flavored beer this is a good one. all around our table enjoyed it this weekend! perhaps my favorite of the ones i have had from these guys...

16.9oz can poured into a pint glass; softly hazy yellow pour reminiscent of lemonade, with a soft white head that sticks around longer than normal Radlers but not that long overall; big obvious notes of lemon, lemonade, citrus fruit, sugary soda, and sweetness. Tartness is subdued but there. Soft fizzy body is uber-drinkable and brings this brew together as an excellent summer crusher.

500mL can
I had this once, 7 years ago and thought it was due for a revisit.
L: cloudy yellow body; fizzy white head
S: lemon zest, sugar, lemonade
T: sweet lemon soda, faint lager and biscuity malt
F: light body, higher carbonation, sweet finish with some lemon zest lingering
O: better than I remember, but I'll stick to the grapefruit radler

Today is F, 15 Mai 2020 & I am in deep isolation during the COVID-19 crisis, giving me ample time to clear out my backlog. This one will CANtinue a few days of imports for The CANQuest (tm). This one came to me from local, in-person trader @tone77 following a trip of his.

From the CAN: "Stiegl Brewery Salzburg, Austria * Private Since 1492 * Austria's Largest Private Brewing Company"; "40% Stiegl-Goldbräu and 60% fruit soda from purely natural ingredients for an outstanding malt beverage specialty."; "Cloudy appearance."

This last was my green light to do some in-CAN agitation before Crack!ing open the vent. Once this was acCANplished, I went with an aggro C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. It responded with the formation of two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, pillowy bone-white head with very good retention. Color was a deeply-hazy/lightly-cloudy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). Nose had a slightly artificial-lemon quality, perhaps from its intense sweetness. My first thought was of Country Time Lemonade or Fanta Limon because it did not have the natural tang of ReaLemon. This was problematic since the style centers around the inclusion of fruit, not fruit soda pop. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, not watery, but not terribly removed from it, either. The taste was tangy, but still sweeter than actual lemon juice. I beCAN to relate to @Dewsby WRT using it as a mixer. It was during my first overseas Med Cruise in 1985 that I hit upon Tanqueray & Fanta Limon. I just happen to have a bottle in my pre-sequestration stash! I will give that a whirl once I have my initial review CANpleted. @Hyptochrons mentioned Meyer lemon(s/pie) & I CAN see that. Finish remained sweet, which I think is the big takeaway here. It would probably be highly welcomed on a hot, humid Summer day by a bicyclist, but as a stand-alone, the sweetness became an issue.

It was at this point that I added some Tanqueray gin for old times' sake. The spiciness of the liquor's botanicals beCAN to cut some of the sweetness. At that point, I could REALLY taste everything - the maltiness of the base Pilsner beCAN to emerge, the lemon became a LOT less sweet & the botanicals of the gin were also in evidence. Mmm. This reminded me of a recent discussion re. BudLight Chelada - it is not BAD, per se, but it needs help, generally in the form of liquor. Which kinda reminds me - maybe I'll pick some up today during my visit to the Friendly Greek Bottle Shop. Hmm.
