The clear golden beer pours out into a Duvel glass with a 3/4” white head that recedes to leave some spiderweb lacing on the sides of the glass and eventually leaves a small film over most of the surface of the liquid. Sipping creates lots of small patches and legs of lacing.

The aromas are a nicely mixed profile that includes some bready malt with some floral, earthy, and grassy hops.

The flavors are much as expected from the nose but with the bready malt up front and the slightly spicy, earthy and grassy hops in a strong supporting role. The hop bitterness is definitely there but well blended with a bit of sweetness from the malt and without losing their earthy slightly spicy character.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a lightly prickly but smooth carbonation. The dry finish begins as the sweetness and bready character of the malt begin to fade to an earthy, grassy dry finish that still has a touch of bready malt even though there’s no sweetness.

Overall a very enjoyable beer which I’ll be happy to have again. The flavors are well balanced but all are clearly present and playing a role in the overall aroma/flavor profile.

Poured a crystal light amber color with a half finger white head that dissipated quickly to none. Aroma was slight herbal and malt. Initial taste had a sourness to it but that did not return on the 2nd sip. Slightly sweet taste of malt with just a bit of hop bitterness followed by a light metallic taste. This is close to an American adjunct. Moderate to light body and carbonation.

Had this on 2017-12-25 in Wagontown, PA from a 11.2 oz bottle

Cereal, light herbal and lemon, honey. Not very bitter. Very smooth at first, then crisp. Easy to drink.

Look: It pours light golden with low head retention.

Smell: It has aromas of herbal hops, grass, and light grainy sweet malt.

Taste: It has malty sweet grain with herbal hops and grass.

Feel: It has a bitter bite in the aftertaste and a light body.

Overall, it is a fairly basic beer.

A: [3.25] The bottle lists the ABV (5.7%) but there is not date info. I've had this one for a while so I know it has at least 6 months on it. The beer is a really pale straw color. It forms a smal 1/4 finger of head with rough white bubbles.

S: [3.75] Corn, cereal, spice from some hops. Like a traditional lager but with the hops kick on the backend.

T: [4.00] Very similar to the nose. Good base lager flavor of grains, corn and malt sweetness but with a decent hop balance to spice it up.

M: [3.50] It is on the thinner side with fizzier carbonation. There is a bit of a linger to the malt sweetness.

O: [3.75] I like it. Refreshing and satisfying. Definitely not pretentious but still distinguishes itself from a traditional lager. The hop build is a subtle and nice addition. I would get this again and share it.

For people that don't appreciate a good German lager this is the next best thing than drinking a lager at the Augustiner Brauhaus in Munich. Bright sweet bready biscuits and crisp is how I would describe this. Nothing better than a liter of this on a hot day.

Found this beer on the shelf at random and never seen or heard of this one before. It has an old man on the label, and so far that is always the identifier on a label of a quality beer. This one continues that stereotype. For a Helles Lager it is nearly flawless. Nice 2 finger head and light body. Smell is bready, earthy and sweet. Taste is bready, sweet, crisp, basically everything you want in this light German style and it deliveries with perfection.

Highly recommend.

Pours *very* pale, even compared to the kolsch I just finished.

Smells like grain and nothing.

Tastes almost shockingly similar to an American adjunct. Which isn't to say it's bad, just takes a few sips to get used to. As my palette adjusts, it plainly becomes a munich style lager, but it's still thicker and rougher than all the other munichers I've ever had. Compared to Lowenbrau, for example, this positively tastes like Pabst. And, actually, compared to Pabst it kinda tastes like Pabst. Thicker, fruitier, but with a strangely similar grainbill. Which is probably impossible but I'll be damned if that's not what it tastes like.

So... not bad? Off considering my expectations for the stye, and not great, but certainly not bad.
