I apologize for not being as refined as most reviewers, I'm simply a guy who loves German Helles style lagers. This beer is my absolute favorite beer that I can buy in the US. I've spent some time in Bavaria off and on during my military service and this is the only beer that makes me think I'm sitting in the garden of a gasthaus drinking a litre. It's just that great.

For those who like Dortmunder Exports, this is the perfect Bavarian interepretation of the style. It is simply the reference beer when it comes to this type.

Full bodied, great mouthfeel, lovely maltyness, fantastic finish in the back despite it's low bitterness rate (18 IBU).

It is suprising that a drink with so much body and maltyness and high alcohol level (5.6% ABV) can be made being so bright (6.5 EBC).

This is THE example of the Bavarian art of brewing. I always have it when it's available.

Perfection in a bottle.

This is one of the best lagers I've ever had. It's so crisp and refreshing with a strong malty finish. Very drinkable. This was amazing to try for the first time with a quiet, mountain backdrop and a cool breeze.

THE Munich beer. Malty spicy aroma, smooth sweet malts in the taste with the perfect amount of bitterness for it to finish dry and clean. The 5.6% alcohol sneaks up on you.
Great beer, especially in the warmer months.

You can't get Augustiner beers in Washington State, but I grabbed this one at Ledger's Liquors on a recent visit to Berkeley. By the way, Edelstoff translates to "noble stuff" in English, and a German friend of mine assures me that this sounds just as goofy in German as it does in English.

Unfortunately, this beer pales in comparison to Augustiner's Lagerbier Hell, which is excellent where this one is pretty average. I drank two bottles trying to come up with anything that would distinguish it as a beer, and I got nothing. I'd rather not repeat the experience.

This was a clear yellow brew with a one finger head that was very fizzy, and dissipated quickly into a thin film. A few moments later, almost none left.

Aroma was slightly fruity, a little grainy, with some light malts and a hint of lager-like skunkiness.

Taste was slightly bitter and grassy, with llight hops and a bit of funkiness. The malts were kind of washed out.

Mouthfeel was a bit thin and, as I said, washed out.

Drinkability was just average. Better than some, but it didn't stand out.

(Served in an Imperial pint glass)
A- This beer pours a crystal clear pale gold body with a creamy mousse white head that is supported by a sea of tiny bubbles swirl around.
S- The aroma of soft pale malt that is dry with a dry green hop note. There is a faint dried leaves and grain note that comes through as the beer warms.
T- This beer has a smooth soft dry grain hint with some dry honey malt hints grow as the beer warms. There is a low hop green note of noble bitter hops that linger a bit and a very light sweetness in the finish.
M-This beer has a light mouthfeel with a tight fizz finish.
D- This beer has a nice smooth beer but there is some nice depth of flavor for such a light beer. And it has a nice freshness to the crisp malt flavor.

I don't know what everyone else is looking at, but it doesn't get much more proper looking than this for the style. Perfectly clear light yellow, Billowing foamy white head, excellent retention and lacing.

The aroma is dominated by freshly crushed grain and yeasty doughy bread, followed by grassy and flowery hops. Again, pretty solid.

Flavor follows but a bit more grassy than I was anticipating.

Feel is light and crisp and pretty well balanced, but finishes a bit dry and "dirty" feeling.

Overall, I think this is a pretty darn good Helles. I wouldn't pay the price tag often for it as there are other great beers of this style readily available, but I definitely wouldn't turn one down. Prost!

Poured 0.5l bottle into a Willi becher glass.

A: The beer is pale goleden in color with brilliant clarity. Pours with a two finger high foamy white head, which quickly disspiates, but leaves some lacing. Low-to-medium carbonation is visible in the glass.

S: Very fresh notes of grassy hops and grainy malts.

T: Follows the nose. Very clean and fresh. Perfect balance between subtly sweet malts and grassy hops.

M: Light bodied, crisp and smooth. Moderate carbonation on the palate.

O: Refreshing and very drinkable. Excellent Helles lager.

Did not enjoy this beer any more than I would a Miller or Bud Light. Other than nice head retention, there were no appealing qualities in its looks. Received this as part of a Beer of the World's Mix pack and am not sure how long it may have been on the shelves. Tastes of sweet corn maltiness that got a little better as it lost some of its chill. Not recommended.

Poured from a bottle to a pint glass

L: Clear, light golden color. Small pale head disappears quickly

S: Fresh, very malty

T/F: Sweet malt, some hops but no bitterness. Moderately carbonated, smooth, and slightly rich

O: Excellent helles, not amazing but very drinkable. I'd love to try it on tap.

BB 01-06. Great presance with good and lasting head and full golden and cristal clear beer. Wonderfull nose also with lots of finest maltyness and great hops that are hard to define but perfume the beer great. Not much esters or yeastinfluence except for the alcohol but yeah great nose. As is taste that's full, litle sweet and very malty, good hops and litle alcoholic. Woww with this not too high carbonisation also a heaven like mouthfeel. Well what can you say a perfect sessionbeer IMO.
