Poured from a brown 11.2 oz. bottle. Has a bright yellow color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of malts, sweet. Taste is malts, grassy, light hops, a touch of sweetness. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a refreshing and easy drinking beer.

No date onto a bottle. Poured into trusty Warsteiner stein.

A: Pours light. Very light. Finger of bleached white head. Mostly transparent yellow with moderate carbonation rising to the surface.

S: Beautiful. Sweet malts meet green grapes meet floral

T: Soft and balanced. Delicate malt sweetness greets the tongue. Mid palate is subdued notes of grape, lightly floral, lightly honeyed and borderline graham cracker sweetness. Swishing around stirs up some of the hop bitterness. It's lightly herbal and grass like in characteristic. Finishes with a very light touch of bready sweetness.

M: Light and balanced. Slightly rounder and not quite 'crisp'. Makes for a pleasant pint.

O: Great stuff, and it better be. This is not a cheap beer.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass at the Hofbrau Restaurant in Helen, GA. The appearance is a gold colored beer with a large white head. The aroma is mild with grass and some hops. The taste matches the nose. An excellent beer.

The Augustiner Lagerbier Hell has always been my favourite Hellesbier, but I thought I'd give this a bash. It just doesn't come up to the other in terms of flavour but it's still a standard lager for the style; maybe leaning more towards a Pils.

Poured from a bottle to a pint glass

L: Clear, light golden color. Small pale head disappears quickly

S: Fresh, very malty

T/F: Sweet malt, some hops but no bitterness. Moderately carbonated, smooth, and slightly rich

O: Excellent helles, not amazing but very drinkable. I'd love to try it on tap.

A very nice run of the mill Pilsner like Helles, very clean yellow body with bubbly foamy white head which dies down quickly. Typical nose for the style, good but nothing outstanding. Same with the taste, standard stock, very acceptable and safe. Slight hint of sweetness. Slight dry malts and modest sweetness in the aftertaste. Decent but expensive at $12.99 for a 6-pack.

Pours crystal clear straw-gold with a medium head that dissipates fairly quickly and didn't leave lacing. Nose is clean, fresh grain, and slight noble hops in the background. Taste is also clean, slightly sweet grain. Crisp mouthfeel. Overall, a solid beer that is simple, clean, and crushable, but doesn't really stand out anywhere.

11.2 oz bottle.

Pours pale gold, almost straw color, and crystal clear. The head is strong at first, but fizzles out pretty quickly. Clean malt aroma with just enough grassy hops for balance. Very soft and clean malt flavor. Carbonation is lively and spritzy, causing it too feel too light in the finish.

Not my favorite Helles but I'll have to find it on-tap somewhere and give it another shot.

Poured 0.5l bottle into a Willi becher glass.

A: The beer is pale goleden in color with brilliant clarity. Pours with a two finger high foamy white head, which quickly disspiates, but leaves some lacing. Low-to-medium carbonation is visible in the glass.

S: Very fresh notes of grassy hops and grainy malts.

T: Follows the nose. Very clean and fresh. Perfect balance between subtly sweet malts and grassy hops.

M: Light bodied, crisp and smooth. Moderate carbonation on the palate.

O: Refreshing and very drinkable. Excellent Helles lager.

12 oz bottle: brilliantly clear, little or no head, no lacing; malty aroma and taste, soft medium-low body with spot-on carbonation; finish is very pleasant smooth malty character. Very quaff-able if a bit pricey. Although I'm sure it's better when fresh and on tap in Bavaria it is still a finer example of a Helles than most (foreign or domestic).

Served in Munich in a pint glass. Pours gold, clear and bubbly with a large head that dissipates quickly. Probably carbonated (available uncarbonated during festivals). Flavorful non-bitter hops.

An 11.2 ounce Euro-weeny bottle poured into a shaker pint glass.

Appearance - Bright yellow color. Big head yet very little stickage. Amazing clarity.

Smell - Fresh. Grassy. A bit sour. Slight citrus smell.

Taste - Fruity (bananas?). Herbal. Slighty sour. A very mild hop flavor on the tail end.

Mouth - Fizzy. A touch oily.

Overall - A very nice German helles lager. Tasty. Chugable. A little underwhelming, however. I'm partial to the Weihenstephaner bright lagers.

This is one of the best lagers I've ever had. It's so crisp and refreshing with a strong malty finish. Very drinkable. This was amazing to try for the first time with a quiet, mountain backdrop and a cool breeze.

A light gold, clear, with a thick-ish cap of foamy white head aided by the effervescence makes this a beautiful beer. The aroma is lighter but has some grain notes (like a cracked wheat cracker) and a little earthy hops. The taste is much the same but with just a little hint of sweetness that balances the up-front hops. The body is lighter but not thin, with a slight but steady carbonation.

A tasty exceptional brew. The best to describe the Edelstoff is like a traditional Augustiner Helles with a kick. The Edelstoff is a prefect brew for Auf dem Weg or on the way party. For a Spaetkaufbier... really is a great choice.

This is the real champagne of beers. Light and crisp with a light hop bite and a bready aftertaste. Great with a brat when you're chillin' with the boys.

THE Munich beer. Malty spicy aroma, smooth sweet malts in the taste with the perfect amount of bitterness for it to finish dry and clean. The 5.6% alcohol sneaks up on you.
Great beer, especially in the warmer months.

L: Dark golden color, very bubbly, carbonated. Crystal clear
S: Very grainy. Smells slightly of cat pee. A little floral hop aroma.
T: Once again, very grainy with some sweetness, but very base with a mildly sour sort of taste. Nothing really offensive just not much to offer.
F: Light, somewhat refreshing. Very crisp from the carbonation.
O: Very basic lager. Certainly not bad, just not very good. As a really big lager fan I found this one to be really kind of underwhelming, especially for the price.

Served cool from 500ml bottle into straight pilsner mug.

L) Light straw colour, clear, 1cm white bubbly head. On the light side for Munich Helles. The usual array of big bubbles rising.

S) The usual Hallertau hops, a bit of raisiny malt too.

T) Just a touch smoother than the Lagerbier Hell that I just finished. Stronger alcohol content gives a bit of a warming flavour. Very pleasant warm Munich malt flavour, no real hop bitterness or sweetness, just perfect balance.

F) Smooth, goes down easy, pleasantly fizzy just a hint of alcohol warmth too. No bitterness in the aftertaste, just keeps you coming back for another drink.

O) Superb, just a smoother slightly stronger version of the Augustiner Hell

Big disappointment.

Pale, transparent yellow with quick-vanishing scarce foam.

Already the smell is kind of metallic and monotone, but when you drink it you'll be its overwhelmed by the bleak, boring, sour-but-plain taste. No evolution in it, no surprise, hard to even drink up half a litre.

To be fully honest I must admit the beer (unlike most low-fermentation beers) got better and not worse as it shifted from cold to room-temperature.

My advice: only eat it with food, never on its own, never more than a half litre or you'll be so bored you won't be able to finish it.

Pours a light yellow with about an inch of white semi rocky head. Light nose. Bit of malt to it. Had a light malt flavor and some sweetness. I like this. Glad I have 6 of them.

On tap at Augustiner am Gendarmarkt in Berlin. 0.5 l in a branded tall glass.

Appearance: Bright pale gold. Initial 1/2" white foam died back to a nice thin foam across the top. Thick strands of persistent lacing noted. A classic German beer appearance.

Smell: Initially very little aroma. Later as it warmed up more, some malt and noble hop aroma.

Taste: Well blended malt and noble hops from start to finish. At every point of the sip you taste the blend of the two flavors.

Mouthfeel: A bit sticky. Good carbonation.

Overall / Drinkability: A very good beer. I don't think I've had a Helles lager that is this well blended in flavor. Very drinkable and if I had a lot more time to kill and maybe the ability to just lay back for awhile afterwards, I probably could have had a full liter. A half liter though was quite nice and went very well with food (Beef Goulash with dunkel based sauce and Spatzle). I'll have to see if I can find this in the states. Sehr gut!
