A small, fizzy, tan head dies fast leaving naked the clear, dark brown, ruby highlighted beer. Minimal lacing. A super malty, nutty, sweet, rich, awesome nose. Ya! Sweet plums and grapes in front with a chocolate, caramel, fruity, alcoholic, buttery middle. A finish that's nutty, nicely bitter with a touch of tart grapes. A very nice, rich, fruity, nutty, caramel malt monster. Even better warm, when it starts to develop some cream.

500ml bottle

Pours with a dark copper body, some hints of very dark amber. Fairly thick lasting tan head

Smell, malty, some hint of musky, dry. Old blankets. Little caramel sweetness

Taste, quite sweet. Roasted malt, golden syrup. Estery

A tasty dunkel lager

Pours clear dark copper with reddish tint and tan head, leaves patchy lacing. Aroma is sweetish malty with some caramel.

Taste is nice light roasted and bittery malty, hints of nuts, breadish and slightly sweet bittery aftertaste with some lemon. Very, very light mouthfeel, I did not like that and expected something better.

Overall, I really enjoyed the beer.

On a trip to Munich, to enjoy a good beer in a local original is an experience. Beer, good, very aroma. Although it is not my style too much and a good experience.

500ml serving in standard augustiner glass, vom fass, at the Augustiner Großgaststätte im Marienplatz

A - Agressive pour produces a deep copper chestnut body with a creamy think 3 finger head, lacing is very good.

S - lots of roasted rich malts, some bitter chocolate, breadiness..

T - Very bold in malt and bitterness, which softens in the aftertaste, to produce a slight toffee/chocolate flavouring, a good balance, maybe a little extreme on the roasted malt bitterness.

M - Medium body, high carbonation

D - Good dunkle, but my opinion may be askew, as i had already had the edelstoff, and weissbier before this, and was full of schnitzel! Therefore, maybe the bitterness and high carbonation, made me feel a little uncomfortable!
Oh well, just need to go back to Munich for another sample :D

Appearance: Dark bronze; clear; big, cream-colored head

Aroma: Roasted malt; sweet; dried fruit

Taste: Good toasted malt with balanced sweetness; not complex, but well-balanced and refreshing

Remarks: Did not score A, T, S, M at that time; disregard those scores

Had at the Biergarten in Munich. Augustiner was the host brewery. Many having a dunkel in the bottom, and being a follower I had one as well. Poured a dark Carmely color but the head maintained a consistent level - continued lacing which people feel seems to matter.

Anyways, I will pretend I got a lot of caramel and chocolate....I think I did. Overall this beer was so smooth and just consistently good. There are not many dunkels I go for in the U.S....will need to keep my sights on this

A very good dunkel weissbier, even better than its weiss sister in my opinion.

A - Ruby oak color. Very dead in the glass,no foam and no bubbles. Maybe it is because it is expired in a month..
B - Very strong coffee aroma. Strongest i ever smell it. Also some caramel.
T/M - Roasted malt, very tasty, refreshing. A bit sweeter from caramel. Medium carbonation and bitterness. Also some strong alcohol aroma. I was expected more creaminess.

O - Very aromatic, but not the best taste.

This dunkel pours a reddish brown, opaque, color with a medium, foamy, tan head and a somewhat high amount of carbonation. The smell is malty and of caramel. The flavors are heavily malt inspired with caramel and toasted bread taking the lead and a lighter flavor of dark chocolate in there as well. This is slightly hoppier then most dunkels that I’ve had also with a faint piney bitterness in the aftertaste. It has a medium body, but it’s very easy to drink. I could drink quite a few of these. Like I’ve said for many German beers, there is nothing fancy or revolutionary here, but it’s a really solidly done beer that is really pleasant to drink. It is rated 15th in the Munich Dunkel Lager category, which is about right to me. I like the Weltenburger Kloster offering quite a bit more and I think the Ayinger variety is a little better as well, though this is still quite good.

Had on draft at the Augustiner Grossgastatte in Munich.

A- Poured into a 1 liter mug, is very dark brown, with a very thick tan head.

S- Somewhat sweet and fruity, no noticeable hops though.

T- very malty but balanced, the beer finishes dry without any real bitterness.

M- very smooth, the beer coats our mouth, but isn't cloying, medium body.

D- Very drinkable, we had two liters and could have stayed for more if there weren't more beer halls in Munich to explore.
