Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz long neck bottle into a pint glass. There appears to be no freshness date.

Appearance: The body very light and has a very pale straw color with very good clarity. Its head is bright white in color and made of a loose foam which light and quickly fades out.

Smell: Light grain and clean wet straw notes are just noticeable in the modest light nose.

Taste/Palate: As expected the body was light and thin with a very clean bready/cracker like pale malt. Hops added pale straw like flavor, balanced bitterness and a crisp finish. Underneath is just the very slightest hint of a white grape skin flavor note.

Notes: Overall this is your basic pale thin hot weather lager. It was clean, drinkable and well, boring. Anyway I can now say that I have had a beer from the continent of Africa!

Nov. 2012: Shared 500 ml bottle, from Voldby Købmandsgård. ABV is 4.2%. Pale golden colour, low white head. Very moderate aroma, some sweetish and grainy, hints of hay. At least it is not offensive. Light bodied as expected. Clean pilsener flavour, too little of everything, but again: not offensive. Might work well in the Kenyan heat, not on a late autumn day in Norway.

It's not everyday I come across an African beer, and this Tusker lager is just that. It pours a golden straw color with a white head. The aroma is very sweet, almost all malt. The taste is what I describe as a "rounded" sweetness. There's no apparent bitterness, and the entire thing disappears from the palate after a few seconds. I'm glad I tried it, but it's not my thing.

Light and pale, a little malty aroma and flavor but not much. Easy drinking feel. Not bad, though. My brother reports that it drinks best when relaxing after safari.

Tusker is crystal clear and as pale as any lager I've ever seen. The head is cloudy, white, and has decent retention.

Tusker smells like the better class of mainstream lager. It's smells smooth, crisp, and refreshing with no overtly obvious off aromas. Up front, Tusker smells like sweet corn with pale, bready malts giving support. Sweet corn continues into the center where it mingles with hints of sulfur. The finish gives me hops in the form of fresh cut grass.

At first blush, Tusker tastes like it could be smooth, crisp, and refreshing. Closer examination though quickly takes the wind out of those sales. Up front flavors of sweet corn mix with a more pronounced sulfur presence than what I found on the nose. This combination gives the lager a bit of an off flavor which interferes with its overall refreshability.

Overall, the sulfur makes Tusker taste just a little bit off. Sulfur gives Tusker's flavor a sort of tartness that in my opinion just doesn't make for a tasty, refreshing lager.

A sessionable brew from the cradle of Earth - Africa, and it's a decent lager too...

Yellow with orange highlights topped off with a froth head and some staying power. The smell is what I would call a roasted wheaty scent with a muted wheaty flavor as accompaniment. Mouthfeel is well carbonated, not too distracting, and overall I find it solid. Nothing spectacular but better than I had expected.
