sampled on tap at the brewpub may 31/2010. listed as a double red ale brewed with magnum and horizon. 7.8% and 100ish IBU.

pours hazy reddish brown with a nice fluffy light tan head. the head drops fairly fast but leaves lots of lace as it falls.

aroma is good. grapefruit, pine, and citrus. white bread, biscuit, and lightly toasted bread. caramel and toffee. bit of coffee and chocolate.

taste is good. big hops, more narrowly focused than the "holy cow" but also more bold. pine and grapefruit. light citrus. lightly toasted multi-grain bread. cracker and light biscuit. light alcohol. touch of fruity character. hops are slightly powdery too. just over medium bitterness level.

mouthfeel is good. just over medium body. slightly below medium carbonation level.

drinkability is great. nice balance. big and malty with a balancing hop profile. good stuff!

On tap at the brewpub.

Pours a mostly clear reddish amber, tiny bit of haze, a touch of brown away from the light, very thick off white head forms and settles down to a thick ring around the glass, lots of lace spots stick.

Smell is nice, some pine and citrus hoppiness, a bit sugary, some caramel, herbal, nice malty middle, biscuit, bread, grapefruit, big hops and malt with some nice balance, slightly herbal.

Taste is nice too, big and malty, some roast up front, heavy caramel and some biscuit, really neat maltiness, a touch of fruit, some floral and grapefruit hoppiness, light pine and herbal bitterness, nicely balanced.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with low to medium carbonation, very smooth and drinkable. A nice beer.

Also available on tap, this is brewed with magnum and horizon hops. Dry-hopped twice.

Pours a dark amber color with a two-finger head into my glass.

Aroma is full of floral hops in the nose that stand out. Lots of hops.

Taste is full of strong, slightly sweet malt with a one-two punch from the magnum and horizon hops, lending a grassy, floral, slightly citrus edge to the beer.

Mouthfeel is full of lingering hop bitterness that coats the throat. Never gets too sweet nor bitter at the finish.

Very well-done. Almost like a barleywine in the malt profile, but otherwise, an interesting take on the style.
