Oh but to be enjoying this on a crisp winter’s night. Pours dark reddish brown with a small silky beige head. Aroma wafts with dried fruit, brown bread, oak barrel smells. taste is just as rich, smooth and creamy. Nice sticky aftertaste and very, very mild alcohol burn. A treasure.

on draft at the Comet Café in Milwaukee. a solid grand cru (quad) overall but I can't say that there was any particular quality that stood out. $9 a draft is pricey, too, for what is IMO a solid if unspectacular beer.

L - Poured into a tulip glass, this beer produces a beautiful dark ruby color with a tan head that slowly fades. Leaves behind some good lacing.

S - Some pear, apple, and nail polish remover, similar to some Tripels and Quads I've had before, like a Westmalle. Not a very strong smell.

T - It has a sweet fruity taste with a hint of spice. There's some apple, pear, and a sharp nail polish remover flavor. Perhaps some coffee and chocolate notes, though pretty hidden. Sweet, bready characters also break through. The nail polish remover taste lingers and lends to a bitter-sweet after taste that has a small hint of pears and malt. It also shares some red wine qualities.

F - Medium carbonation, nice and creamy, dry. Good stuff.

O - A fairly good Quad, no doubt. Not quite as good as others in it's style, but above average, and I think it's price reflects it's quality. Still, it's a great beer!

On draught and the J. Clyde in Birmingham

Deep almost opaque brown cola color mild lacing creamy head weak retention

Smells of raisins and dark fruit (jams and jelly) brown sugar malt baked bread

Good deal of bitterness up front for a quad
More dark fruit and the malt profile of a dubbel though it is scaled back a bit here for balance though still noticeable, a bit of nondescript tartness warm and rich

Creamy and smooth

Overall a pretty decent BSDA but I would always reach for the ABT 12 before I'd reach for this, it is definitely worth a try tho
