Not sure why this is listed as a retired beer, I just picked one up at de Bier Tempel in Brugge last week (that has a much different label than the one shown in the picture). Lot number was left unmarked for some reason which I thought was strange. Poured from a 33cl bottle into a Brouerij 't Ij branded stemmed tulip glass.

A: Poured a tannish orange hue with a thin head and small amounts of lacing.

S: Sour and funky, fermented green apples and cherries with some spice and faint smells of Chardonnay.

T: Like the smell but more cherry and Chardonnay with some hops in there as well (but not much). A little too sweet for me (tastes like sugar was added to it).

Really not sure why this beer is considered a strong pale ale; it doesn't really taste anything like that to me what so ever - I wonder if this brewery started brewing a new beer under the same name (???).

M: Thin and barely carbonated - pretty unpleasant.

D: No way - couldn't even finish a 33cl bottle and would never consider drinking again.

Bottle: Poured a hazy blonde color ale with a huge foamy head with great retention. Aroma is funkier then expected with some light sweetness also coming across. Taste is also a mix between some funkyness probably from the yeast with some medium sweetness and nice presence of Belgian malt. Body is quite full with some good carbonation. I am not sure what to make of the funkyness but maybe some sourness or tart would have proved beneficial but this was still good thought.

Lot A, Bottled in October of 2002...

Appearance: copper color, good clarity, tasty-looking semi-rocky off-white head w/ good stability, some lace

Aroma: caramelly malt, somewhat grassy, a bit strawberry-fruity, honey, hops, cooked meat

Flavor: initially malty-sweet, then drying out from the carbonation, then quite winey-tangy, and then dry again; some honey-like organic flavors, a yeasty palate, tart after-taste

Mouthfeel: medium-light body, zesty carbonation, quite a bit of alcohol warmth

Overall Impression: Somehow similar to the beer I tasted yesterday, Pa-Gijs (from Brouwerij Boelens). Not sure how or why. Quite nice. A bit rustic; lots of "interesting" flavors and smells. And you have to love the low-tech laser-printed label.

Mild aroma of fresh pineapple. Glowing, hazy golden beer supports a huge creamy, light-tan, head that leaves thick lace as it fades back into the beer below. Flavors of pineapple and other tropical flavors make for a refreshing beer. It's not very sweet, but even still it dries out in the finish. Fine carbonation produces a smooth body.

Litle white head and a pale golden beercollor with litle haze. Nose is mega butter that overpowers sweet nose of malts but overall a nightmare. Taste is also butterscotch and anis, sweetness cause of the butter and moderate bitterness in the end. No this is undrinkable and must have had a terrible infection to get to this taste. Will but again to see if things are better but for now sorry.

Retried jul 06 and better then first but not much head and more foggy then first time, no diacethyl this time and actually quiet frutiy alcoholic.Dry taste and having a woodlike note but dull IMO.
