Vintage 2014. Best Before 27.03.2034

A: Pours a deep ruby red color with 2+ fingers of head that quickly fizzles down to a very thin cap

S: Lots of cherry and oaky notes up front, with hints of vanilla and leathery tannins. A bit of barnyard funkiness in there as well, along with a touch of acetic acid

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with tart, acidic cherry notes followed by oak, tannins, and a light sweetness. The barnyard and vinegar notes are still very much on the lighter side, and show up after the initial tartness. The acidity leaves no lingering finish behind

M: Medium bodied with moderate-high carbonation. Definitely on the bubbly side

O: A classic kriek with a solid lambic base and great cherry addition. The oak does a nice job tempering the tartness, as do (more specifically) the tannins. Very drinkable. Definitely worth checking out

Pours a ruby red body with a faint pink head. The taste is wildly tart with a wonderful cherry flavour. There is a very nice feel associated with it as well. Love this as a nice session beer. Awesome.

Pours a cloudy red with nice, large pink head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is cherry, raspberry, leathery funk, with a buttery element. Flavor is vinous, with a hint of fruity sweetness evoking sour and/or black cherry, and nice funk aromas on the dry finish.

Oud Beersel Oude Kriek Vieille

Pours a vibrant pinkish red with a big pinkish white froth. Aroma of wild funky yeast and cherry. In the flavor, big time sour notes with a mild complimentary tart cherry note. Mostly acidic, sour, and funky. The abv is hidden well by the strong puckering wild yeast notes and cherry. Light bodied feel, effervescent, semi dry sophisticated feel. Overall, this is a lovely Kriek lambic, very unique and full of character.

2014 Vintage into Crooked Stave tulip
Pours bright red with pink foamy head. Sinks after a couple minutes to a ring around the edge. Aroma of sour cherry, sour apple, oak, slight acetic (good) and slight funk. Flavor follows the nose with a nice sour smack and some added minerals and tannins. Feel is light and crisp, spot on for the style. Overall a tasty glass. Recommended.

A - 375ml bottle, dated best before 3/10/2030. An audible pop is produced when pulling out the cork. Pouring the beer into a tulip produces a big fizzy pink head. It's got nice retention. The beer is clear and dark red in color, think mahogany.

S - The nose has a nice lactic sourness combined with sour cherries and a little funkiness. There is also a little bit of vanilla and oak character.

M - The body falls somewhere between light and medium. It's highly carbonated and very dry.

T - Bright sour cherry flavors hit first followed by sourness. A little bit of funk shows up in the tail end. The finish brings some more sour flavors lasting into the finish. It's not overly sour, nor overly sweet. On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being sweet, and 10 being mouth puckering, I'd give it a 6 or 7.

A superb Kriek. Not overly sour or sweet, and nicely carbonated. I'd certainly pick this one up again.

Tart, funk, musty, really dry. No sweetness in this kriek at all. The cherries balance the extreme tartness. Reminds me of Hanssens Gueuze in taste and mouthfeel. Just a touch of cherry in addition

Presentation: Green 37.5 cl bottle that is corked and caged, a best before date stamped on the back label.

Appearance: Semi aggressive carbonation foams up real nice with a faintly pinkish hue, hazed red looking liquid shows the champagne like carbonation well.

Smell: Snappy tartness is strong in the nose with hints of sour cherries, a bit musty and earthy from the yeast also in the aroma.

Taste: Full smack of tartness hits the palate hard, carbonation is unbelievably refreshing with a well textured crispness. Cheery flavours come through right after the wave of tartness starts to settle. Slight musty barn yard flavour peeks in for a brief moment with a powdery earthy yeast flavour. Alcohol is a touch warming in the back with subtle esters. An underlying grain flavour tells the taste buds that this is indeed a beer. Puckering tartness makes way for the dry finish.

Notes: Some like their fruit lambics sweet, this lambic is brewed with sugar but it seems virtually all of the sugars were fermented out leaving it tart and dry. This is the way I like my lambics.

375ml bottle into my Lost Abbey stemware. It poured a dark ruby color with a frothy pink foam rising an inch above the body. Very nice color and head to it.

The aroma has a very nice sour cherry flavor going on. It's slightly acidic with a little sourness, but more tart overall. The cherries really come out nicely in it.

The taste is a little sharper up front with some tart, acidic flavors coming through. The cherries really come out towards the finish and add some fruity, sweetness that cuts through the acidic sourness.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied for the style with carbonation being high. Overall it was a delicious beer. The cherries were very nice in it. It wasn't the sourest of the style, but it was very flavorful and drinkable and felt nicely balanced in relation to the style. Very enjoyable beer overall.
