Notes: Especially for the 135th anniversary, an Oud Geuze was blended from one-year lambic matured in a 30-year-old foeder from Tuscany and three-year-old Lambic matured in an old foeder from Oud Beersel.

This creation is a tribute to Henri Vandervelden, the founder of Oud Beersel who started the brewery 135 years ago in the year 1882.

It is a unique blend of one year old lambic matured on foeders from Tuscany, Italy that were used for thirty years to mature the famous Brunello di Montalcino wine and a three year old Lambic that matured on an old Oud Beersel foeder.

Pours a clouded amber color with a smaller, soon receeding head.

Smells of a heavy funkiness, featuring wet basement, pineapples and cream cheese among dried grass.

Has a light, refreshing mouthfeel, due to the beer‘s high, mineralic effervescence and lighter body.

Tastes of old white grapes, an aqueous note and flour among old oak. Brings more lime and a lighter funkiness to the palate then, with a little leather and basement among cream cheese. Finishes mineralic, with brighter funk and ripe white grapes among dried grass.

While this finishes surprisingly clean, the funk is heavy on the nose with a unique flavor profile to it, due to the barrel, which works great in here.

A 375ml corked and caged bottle with a best before date of 14th February 2037. Poured into a Cantillon gueuze glass.

Appearance: A mostly clear golden colour with a thin white head that dissipated fairly quickly and left only sparse lacing.

Aroma: Funky, barnyard, musty, green apple, straw, oak, lemon zest and lemon juice.

Taste: Lightly sour, funky, earthy, straw, hay, oak, green apple, lemon, with hints of sweetness, pineapple, grape, and vinous notes.

Mouthfeel: Dry, light bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: Very enjoyable. One of my favourites from Oud Beersel with good aromas and flavours, matched with a good balance between sour and sweet.

Colour is on the bridge between gold and copper, opaque; just barely forms a fine white head before it drifts away to a film.
Aroma is sharply acidic and tart, some notes of apple and pear.
Bracing acidity and tart flavour, not fruity, like a lemon pit. A musty, moldy, oak-y note kicks in towards the finish, which sounds unpleasant but is interesting. Lemon zest. Finishes tart, like the skin of a granny smith apple, very dry. The yeasty funk is distinct and intriguing to the palate in both taste and feel. Medium body and a fine effervescence.

Not for everyone, but if you enjoy the style this is definitely one to try. I found myself analyzing each sip, it's a curious delight.

Bottle: Poured a hazy yellow color lambic with a nice foamy head with good retention with some lacing. Aroma of funky ester notes with some light rat notes with some oak notes also discernible. Taste is a nice mix of tart notes with limited acidity and some funky notes and light vinous oak notes. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Well balanced gueuze with some vinous notes but not as much as I had expected.

Deep saturated orange tone, large voluminous head that audibly crackles.
Patchy surface skim and minimal lacing.

Zesty lemon lime citrus aromatics, light funky minerality, wet oak staves.

Tart and crisp, effervescent feel with ample carbonation.
Citrusy lemon and grapefruit, dry oak tannins, vinous and well balanced.
Light to medium bodied, bright acidity, very quenching and refreshing.
The older lambic definitely lends a more complex character to the blend.

A fitting tribute to Henri Vandervelden, who founded Oud Beersel in 1882.

ead. Bright yellow color, decent hHighly interesting smell, very light blue cheese, mild grass, citrus, wheat, smells fantastic. Flavor is good, citrus, mildly sour, nice stuff though I did not pick up any red wine notes. If this were a few dollars cheaper I would buy several for the cellar.

Big pop to the cork. White head and lots. Golden burnt orange color.

Dusty and basement must. Some stone fruit. The wine flavors come through surprisingly and there is a nice tannin flavor. Oaky and dry. Mineral notes. Very complex. Very drinkable. This is going to age nicely.

Deep orange-amber with fleeing head + trailers. 4
Cheese rind, baking soda, hints of red berry, pineapple, yellow apple, and leather. 4.25
Cidery bite, slight funk, touch of wine barrel, cedar, lemon zest, straw, and sorbet fizz. 4.25
Crisp, dry, lt. 4

Wine barrel contributes. Funk is low, though; pineapple is only getting started. I’d like to give this another year or 3. 4

375 mL bottle. Pours hazy orange with a fleeting white head. Smells of cheese, white pepper, oak, dried grass. Tastes equally funky. Cheese, strong oak, wine. Back end is very dry. Well carbonated. Mild sourness. Very tasty blend.

375ml into a tumbler appears hazy copper with white head.

Aroma is fruity with citrus some lemony lactic appeal, earth and oak.

Taste is citrusy and tart, plenty of oak, earth and rindy grapefruit bitterness.

Medium in body with modest carbonation. Pretty decent with a mild vinous nuance that emerges as the brew breathes and warms up.

Pours a fairly clear dark yellow with tons of visible carbonation.

Smell is crisp and funky, with notes of apple, pear and champagne.

Taste is a wonderful balance of acidity and bitterness. Plenty of green apples and some citrus and a little bit of funk. Really great stuff...

Mouthfeel is effervescent and bubbly, medium.

Overall, a real treat. Not overly sour, but the balance is spot on.

a neat lambic here, a blend of one year old aged in brunello barrels and three year, its complex and different and interesting, and its worth the steep asking price. i think these guys are one of the more underrated operations in the lambic game, i have always been impressed with their beers that make it over here, and nobody ever seems to notice. this has a nice head to it, really lively from the bottle, more than many others, fizzy and even explosive carbonation on the palate too, really uplifting and summery and nice. the color is a light rust brassy orange hue, a shade darker than many, maybe from the wine barrels. mouthwatering pucker to the nose, lemon and wet basement and white wine vinegar, along with things like burnt orange peel and champagne and an herbal tea and grapefruit zest. i get the red wine in the taste, some interesting botanical bitterness in the end too, gives it a freshness not often found in beers this mature. still lambic at its hearts, wheaty and woody and raw, bretty and wild, sour enough but with some grain sweetness and heft to balance, expertly refined and even fancy in its overall presentation. to me it still tastes a little young in the bottle, like some extended cellar time would allow it to really evolve, but its mighty tasty as it stands right now, and unique too with the fruitiness of the wine from the barrels and a seemingly higher proportion of the young beer in the blend. i really enjoyed this one last night, lively and different, memorable.
