Poured into a large tulip with a grape brown color with a thick head with a pink hue to it. Smells musty with lots of read wine notes as well as some cherry and some alcohol scent. Wow this tastes incredible. My first kriek, a very grainy taste with a cherry and sherry aftertaste. Also tastes a bit grapey. Reminds me of a carbonated fruit punch but in a good way. This feels pretty good in the mouth except for when it warms up the cherry tastes is quite prominent but still not too sour. Very drinkable but an expensive habit.

375 ml bottle into tulip, best by 10/14/2013. Pours slightly cloudy brick red color with a nice and dense 2 fingers of pink colored head with fantastic retention that reduces to a lasting lacing cap. Thick lacing clings to the sides of the glass as well. Aromas of tart cherries, cherry juice sweetness, spices, and a bit of vinegar. Some nice aromas with good strength and balance. Taste of sweet cherries, spices, and a bit of tart cherry as well. Pretty dry finish, but there is a bit of cherry sweetness that hangs around for a bit. Light-medium bodied with medium carbonation. A bit of a creamy and syrupy mouthfeel is present. No alcohol noticed at all as expected for being 4%. Sweetness of this beer is not cloying at all, and this drinks extremely well. Overall a very nice and tasty kriek! I will have to check out the oude kriek vieille soon.

Poured into a flute. Deep red, with a huge pink/purplish head. The head would probably stick around for days if left undisturbed. Smells slightly sweet, strong sour cherry aroma. A bit of red grapes too. Taste is a great balance of sweet and sour (I don't see this as "mouth-puckering"). The sour cherry flavor dominates, with some grapey, vinous notes. Finishes dry and tart. No noticeable alcohol. Fair carbonation, medium body. Definitely recommended.

T: Sour cherry, lambic funk

M: Sour aftertaste gives way to a more subtle fruitiness.

O: A good Kriek beer with a very strong fruit aroma and taste.

Poured a nice strawberry frothy head. Beer itself is a nice dark cherry color. Medium to strong fingers and lacing. Smell is pleasant with hints of cherry and red grapes. Strong cherry flavor in the beginning that lightens into a very subtle finish. It beacons you to drink more. Light in the mouth with strong carbonation in the beginning lightening to a nice tingle. This was my first Kriek. Glad I picked it.

Poured from a 375ml corked and caged bottle into a tall snifter. The beer has a beautiful color. Dark, deep ruby-red with a nice fluffy pink head. The nose is faint but interesting and has hints of cherries and cotton candy.

Very mild flavor, medium-firm mouthfeel, and light body. The flavor isn't highly sour and acidic, but at the same time you don't get strong fruit juice notes as with some (sweetened) krieks. Instead, you get a mellow slightly tart beverage with light cherry and wine-like flavors. Not very tannic. Finish is kind of bland.

This is not a bad beer, but it's not good either. There isn't a lot of flavor here for the price you pay. It's just kind of dead. I won't buy this again. For what this beer costs, there are better beers with far more flavor.

a tasty kriek, more of an introduction to the style, better than some of the more prevalent ones in the american market, but still more fruit and sugar than lambic and the funky sourness that comes with it. i think their oude kriek is one of the best cherry beers ive ever had, this one lacks the maturity, the dryness, and definitely the pucker. murky blood red in color it looks really cool in the glass, hazy and with a very sweet aroma. a little medicinal on the nose, but the flavor of the cherry is very good. for me, i like the more mature, sour versions of the lambic, these get sweet for me. 4% abv is low, if they let this ferment to 5% abv i think it would be an even better beer, it needs to be a little dryer for drinkability, but for those not familiar with real belgian kriek, this might be a great place to start. their oude kriek stands as one of the best all time, and this to me felt like an inferior little brother, but if we had them the other way around, i might like it a little more. still, well made and real authentic. worth picking up.

Bought this one without realizing it wasn't the oude version. Oh well.

A: Pours a deep purplish-red with a nice light purple head.

S: Moderately sweet cherry flesh in the nose. Not much acidity. A hint of wheat and vinous oak tannins.

T: Taste brings pleasant cherry sweetness interrupted briefly by a very mild note of tartness. Some vanilla and a bit of oak are detected as well, and a bit of subtle muskiness.

M: Light-bodied with full, creamy carbonation.

O: Not disgustingly sweet, but pretty disappointing with the lack of acidity. Next time I'll make sure I'm getting Vieille.
