A: Pours pale orange with copper glints. Thin white head quite lingering
S: Funky nose, horseblanket, balanced by a strong fruits presence (orange, apricot, pomelo, light notes of pineappel too).
T: The palate is also fruity, moderately sour. White fruits (pear, pear peel). Barnyard aromas comes after. finishes lightly bitter with a citruses aftertaste.
M: Impressive carbonation, of fine bubbles. A bit light bodied, but very easy drinking.
O: An elegant brew, fine, very well balanced.

I was looking forward to trying this beer. I wanted to see if it was going to be worth it's price tag. Unfortunately it wasn't.

It poured a nice, light golden color with a big white head. The aroma was actually really nice and funky, but the taste did not match the aroma at all. There was almost no flavor, just a little bit of bitterness and a weak uneven mouthfeel.

I was drinking this with 6 other people and still most of it went down the drain.

750ml caged and corked bottle, 7.4% ABV, the 2012 vintage, apparently produced using the 'méthode traditionelle'.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, pale golden amber hue, with a roiling and teeming tower of puffy, loosely foamy, and rather fizzy off-white head, which leaves some sparse sudsy lace around the glass as it genially recedes.

It smells of tart lemon rind, a further denuded stone fruitiness, earthy yeast, gritty pale malt, some tame cheesy funk, wet straw, and a musty white wine barrel woodiness. The taste is bready, grainy pale malt, sour green grapes, slightly funky white cheese, an acrid woodsy essence, further tart lemon and cherry notes, and a soft hay-like, weedy hop bitterness.

The carbonation is very active, from every angle, what with its tight and swirling effervescence, the body medium-light in weight, and more or less smooth, the acidity and funk playing nice enough right here. It finishes off-dry, actually, as the malt successfully plays catchup to the lingering tart, barrel-aided fruitiness.

A pleasant and enjoyable version of the style, the aging in wooden casks providing another layer of complexity, it would seem. Given the nature of the bubbles in the bottle, and the way that they got there, a case could indeed be made for this being a Bière de Champagne, I put forth to you.

Beautiful brew, topped with a cloudy white head with good retention. Pale straw yellow and bubbly.

A fairly straightforward lambic in most respects: tart and slightly funky. The finish, however, gives it extra character: pears and apples. There's a touch of extra bite, too, likely due to the champagne yeast.

Active and lively brew. For anyone unfamiliar with a Gueuze, this likely doesn't even seem like a beer at all.

750 mL bottle poured into a Teku snifter. Bottle #1139/1300.

Appearance - Clear golden yellow. Nice white head. Big discrete bubbles in the collar. A few tiny islands on the surface.

Smell - Really lemony. Sharp acidic aroma. Hay, grassy, oaky. Not a ton of funk.

Taste - Sharp lemony sourness. Grainy. Seems like a wine flavor, but people are telling me I'm wrong. Hay and again minimal funk.

Mouthfeel - Highly carbonated. Medium sourness. Medium body.

Overall - Simple flavors. Not as complex as other gueuzes, but everything is very nice.

Pours into a tumbler glass with a charged head of airy merengue foam, racing champagne streamers, and a bright golden tone. Plenty of lace and a champagne like appearance.

Aroma was minerally at first, and gradually had some wet wood, hay and stable funk to it as it sat in the glass. Also an impression of ripening fruit, like the aromas in a produce market (thanks acme).

Tart and crisp, very dry with a moderate puckering sourness. Lemon, citric acid, mineral, drying oak woodiness. The champagne carbonation gives it a pleasant lightness. Somewhat of an improvement on the standard lambic, an interesting process, though I'm not sure it's worth a great premium.

Thanks to Elliott for sharing this one!

Another huge thank you to Jeffo for yet another awesome bottle. 909/1300

Appearance. Pours a hazy straw-gold with over 2 fingers of frothy white head.

Smell. Dry woody funk and hay, some lemon and maybe some light berries, and just a touch of sweet light malt.

Taste. Lots of that dry woody funk I smelled, some sour green apple and lemon, and again, a touch of sweet light malt to balance things out.

Mouthfeel. On the low side of medium bodied, below medium smooth and fine carbonation.

Overall. A fine gueuze. Different in its balance and (slightly) lower acidity compared with others.

On tap at The Answer in Richmond, VA. Pours straw gold, with a few bubbles from a faint carbonation which somehow ended up in the brew. Aromas and flavors of lemons, hay and barnyard funk, oak and sour apples. Great mouthfeel. A strange idea, but a good one.
