An all-around amazing shop! I make a point to stop here every time I am in Boone, and am never disappointed. From hard to find gueuzes (3F and Cantillon) to barrel-aged treats, the selection is second to none. Everything is well-organized and clearly priced. Lots of cold six packs for the hop fix and even a nice wall of glassware. Whenever I have been in Peabody's, the staff has been extremely helpful and friendly. They have also gone above and beyond, holding a few bottles of Hopslam for me when I got shut out all over Raleigh. They also consistently get all of the available local and national limited releases, and in impressive quantities (74 cases of Hopslam!!) that you don't have to kill yourself trying to get them. In short, get there, NOW!

Peabodys is the only store in Boone with a full time beer buyer, wine buyer, and knowledgeable staff who can help you at any time of the day. If it is available in NC, you can find it here. if you cant find it, they will order it for you, often times for the next day. Full selection of cans for hitting the ski lift, full selection of vintage and rare beers for the apres fireplace. Also a great place to find deals, there is usually a large stack of discounted bottles by the tasting bar.

Speaking of tasting, they hold a weekly event on Tuesday nights that features a brewery, region, or theme, offering free tasting of 5-6 beers and often times a brewery representative to answer questions.

Tons of cold beer, two walls of the store are refrigerated, and they have a killer keg selection (best in the area) in the walk-in. Meticulously maintained shelves are always looking fresh and just really add to the overall experience.

Unfortunately, the town of Boone does not allow these guys to pour draft beer, or allow us to enjoy beer on the front porch, though great food options and wine by the glass is offered. Full assortment of snacks, cigars, and cigarettes make it a one stop shop. They also deliver through Boone Takeout, which can be a big save at 11pm on a Friday night.

When they say its the best, they aren't lying.

Love these guys! Free beer tastings every Tuesday and free wine tastings every Saturday. There are other tastings that cost for the more dedicated wine connoisseurs. They have a great selection of both wine and beer and also have great cheeses and accessories.

First time to Peabody's, and I was blown away at the selection and service provided. Cases stacked high, and beer aged to perfection was how I was greeted when I walked in the door.
Chris (the Beard) was more than helpful, knowledgeable, willing to go above and beyond to fill my order (even sneaking into the cellar for a couple of selections I had hoped to fill.)
World Class Establishment!!!
This is for sure an hours drive that my car will be able to make on its own, very soon.
Just get there as fast as you can & see for yourself!!!

Peabody's is an outstanding example of how a indy bottle shop can continue being a great success even in the age of the wine and beer mega stores. Their selection is unmatched. Their service is above and beyond. This is a beer geek's mecca. For those not so close by, a yearly pilgrimage is required just to identify yourself as a beer geek. Their knowledge of product is just retarded, but they don't make the weekender feel stupid. They careful listen to your questions and guide you, with great purpose, to a beer you will want to take home to mom and dad! They also have some cute guys working there!!

Living in Boone for the past year and a half, Peabody's has been my go-to beer spot. I can't say how lucky I feel to have such a world class beer store right down the street. The store, and the people running it, are just awesome.

The place seems a little small if you're used to shopping at a Total Wine or similar warehouse style store, but the selection is outstanding. All the new and limited releases are stocked and they seem to get large allocations of most of the highly anticipated stuff. More importantly, in my opinion, they keep all the local, regional and national favorites in stock. There is an extensive Belgian selection and a nice range of German beers as well. Lots of stuff is in coolers so you can grab a cold six pack on the way to the lake/game/pool/school/work. There's seemingly always something new and/or obscure coming in.

The service at Peabody's is what really makes the store special. All of the employees are friendly, and I am always greeted upon walking in the door. There are some great guys working there that know their stuff and are easy to have a conversation with--about beer or otherwise. They give thoughtful recommendations, and never seem to be trying to just move old/unpopular product.

I could go on and on about this place, but suffice to say: If you like beer, and are in the area, there is no excuse not to give Peabody's a visit.

I visited Peabody's this last Friday (10/5/2012) and had an absolutely fantastic experience. I love the organization of the store and the quality of the selection. I appreciated the time taken out by Chris to show my friend and me around as he helped us make selections. I'd say that the experience in this store is right up there with the best that I've had to date. I was glad that the store's reputation on this site was completely validated. I am looking forward to my next trip up to Boone to visit this store!

Visited last week on September 19. For a Jersey guy visiting the area, Peabody's lived up to every inch of their rating here.

Good size to the place, great set-up makes it easy to shop around, labeling keeps your location and styles organized, plenty of coolers, and Gregg and Jeff's Secret Stash for some vintages.

I had excellent conversation while I was there and MrPeabodysBeard was kind enough to let me see some of the rarer selections around and certainly some of the labels I wouldn't be able to find up in Jersey. Able to scoop up a Cascade Vine and an older vintage of the Foothills Bourbon Porter and the real nice treat was a first bottling of Green Man Imperial Stout. Also grabbed some Olde Hickory and Roth Brewing.

Peabody's is a must stop for anyone traveling in or through western Carolina but especially for those visiting Asheville. The drive is pretty simple and takes about 75-90 minutes depending on traffic.

Was looking for a decent spot in Western NC to bring back some cool beer to Jersey and I found was Peabody's which is most likely the best beer shop I have ever been to.

The atmosphere is chill. Its a small place with stuff scattered all around which isn't an issue like it sounds (explained later) but it has a real beautiquey feel.

Quality and selection is outstanding. Tons of excelent craft beer including vintage selections. I don't think I to elaborate further as to how awesome it is.

As far as service goes if I could give a score higher than 5 I certainly would. Chris Riley is the man as well as Thor (haha). They were especially helpful but the entire staff are just foutains of knowledge and all are willing to give great recomendations. They tell you right away how the store is layed out so its easy to find exactly what your looking for. They are what makes Peabody's a must visit for anyone looking for beer in Western NC.

I can't say enough about Chris, Benny, and Daniel and the entire crew at Peabody's. This is probably the friendliest beer shop i've ever walked into. Even during a busy weekend afternoon the guys had no problem taking the time to show me around and talk beer.

This place is stuffed to the gills with beer and wine and there is something for everyone. Each aisle is clearly marked by country of origin or style. There is also a large quantity of cooler doors housing tons of 'ready to drink' selections. The local selection is great and they've done a great job of getting selections from all over the state.

It had been several years since I visited Peabody's before this past weekend. I used to visit fairly frequently when I had friends still living in Boone. But even without knowing Chris personally a couple quick messages to him made me feel like an old regular when I walked in the door. This is a must stop for anyone even thinking about visiting western NC and I will definitely be back.

I can't say enough about the place. I have been going there religiously for about a year now and have never once come out of there not excited about what tasty brew I was bringing home!

Vibe - (5) A very chill laid back vibe. As you would expect in Boone, there are also plenty of beards go around! The place holds tastings every Tuesday and special events through out the year at which you will always meet a bevy of beer geeks to discuss great brews with. Hell I even have those guys to thank for starting my first bottle share group!

Quality - (5) All Quality, All the time.

Service - (5) If it was possible to give a 6 on here for this I would. Everybody there knows there beer, loves talking about it, and will make sure you walk out of the shop with what you want. I almost always end up having a good brew conversation with somebody while i'm in there and before I know it have been there for 30 minutes. A+ +

Selection - If its allowed in NC its here. Great locals, great imports. The Belgians section is phenomenal. They even have a vintage and cellar section where you can find some great one off's and verticals (currently a 6yr vert of big foot I believe is on the shelves). You can also special order cases at a discount!

Food - I heart Cheese and they have it

Overall - I'm spoiled living up here. Every time I go off the mountain for a trip, I end up being disappointed when I go to other local shops. Nothing like buying beer from friends! And for you wine folk, my brother is a wine freak from the west coast who geeked out when he saw their wine selection!

I always heard good things about peabodys from friends in Boone , but this place is amazing! Selection is off the charts and staff is super friendly and knows beer. Will make this a regular stop on the way to the in-laws every year. Store is in the middle of renovation, but even with that it tops most beer shops i've been to. Plenty of local brews and most styles heavily represented. Mix packs available at the register and coolers in the back of the store are packed to the gills with good beers from a wide range of areas: east coast, west coast, imported, and locals. If you find yourself anywhere in the area, go check it out, you won't be disappointed.

BTW big thanks to the beer guy for the 3F, it was awesome.

Wow. That's all I have to say. I was looking for a place that would be my "spot" after moving to this area. Coming from Asheville I was somewhat jaded. I rolled up into Peabody's with hope but no real expectation and was blown away. The selection is incredibly high quality and huge. Rare brews, unusual imports and just weird stuff abound. There is also an equally impressive selection of wine. The folks were cool to deal with, although the prices are pretty expensive, but the selection certainly justifies it. I'll be back.

I spent the weekend in Boone, NC, and I travelled to Peabody's at the recommendation of a beer friend.

I was blown away by the service. Fellow BA "Mr. Peabody's Beard" (employee/manager?/owner?) was super knowledgeable, and he gave some killer recommendations.

I happened to stop in the day before the store received a shipment of Dark Horse. Of course, I had to come back the next day. I knew my local store was getting some as well, but the staff is that awesome that I had to go back to Peabody's (plus I had to pick up some more Seven Devils).

Excellent selection of bombers and some killer vintage brews. The store is well organized by beer type and geography. They have an outstanding selection of limited releases from Epic Brewing Company.

As a bonus, Peabody's has a killer wine selection (especially big reds). The wine selection kept my wine-loving fiancee occupied while a perused the brews.

If you are in Boone/Blowing Rock/High Country, then you must stop by Peabody's. I can not say enough about how rad the service is, especially BA Mr. Peabody's Beard.

Extremely accessible location that was worth the visit. Great atmosphere in a cozy well-spaced store with a diverse selection of brews from everywhere you can think of. Staff was extremely helpful and very friendly. A wonderful shopping experience with a bunch of great local brews. The prices were extremely competitive and some of the specials were just great deals that were hard to turn down. Hope to come back to spend more time there. I would highly recommend this store and wish they would ship.

A- It's absolutely overloaded with beer, which isn't a bad thing at all. But... I did knock it a half point because it is too tight for two people to stand back to back and search the floor to ceiling shelves. I really shouldn't complain about that, I know, but if you get some pie-eyed searcher like me standing in front of one of the massive sections, you'll be waiting a while before you can feast your eyes on what I'm looking at. I really liked how they had everything in it's own section, germans, belgians, stouts, ipas...etc. Some other stores are like madhouses.

Q- Great beer store.

S- Top notch. Mountains of beer knowledge from the staff. Chris (I think that was his name) was super nice and never let on that my rambling opinions were wildly inaccurate, which they tend to be. Everyone was quick with suggestions based on the pile I was creating at the checkout counter.

S2- Seriously, what do you want? If you can get it in NC, it's probably here. If you could get it in NC last year, it's probably here.

F- N/A

V- I got a ton of stuff and felt like I got my money's worth. They do have awesome sales from time to time to keep an eye on. Local 1 for $5.99, that's a no brainer!

I'm a lucky North Carolinian. I live about twenty minutes outside of Charlotte (some nice beer stores & great bars), an hour from Hickory (nice bars & a great brewery, OHB), two hours from Asheville (beer heaven) and only an hour and a half from the mountains of the Boone -Blowing Rock area. As such, my girl and I have mastered the road trip and Peabody's is a must stop destination on our itenerary.

The shop is well laid out & I've never failed to discover some rarity I've not had before. The staff is beer-smart & helpful, super cool laid back guys.

My girlfriend is quickly becoming a beer-snob (no idea where that comes from) but she also loves her wines, specifically reds & Peabody's knows their grapes inside out.

If you're anywhere near the area, drop by & check the store out for yourself. Snag some great stuff & head up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. A trip to this area without a stop at Peabody's? Unthinkable.

I've been going to Peabody's for the past 12 years. When I lived up in Boone it was known as THE place to get beer or wine. I was just up there today, and I can't say enough about how great of a bottle shop this is. The selection is amazing, as good as any place in NC. The service is personable, and helpful. I really enjoyed talking to Chris for the better part of an hour.

Peabody's has an amazing selection of seasonals, hard to find beers, vintage beers, and belgian/imports. They also have a killer selection of wine, and local foods.

I wish I lived up in Boone still for several reasons, and Peadbody's is definitely one of them. I would strongly recommend a trip up to Boone, and a stop (or 10) into Peabodys.

What a beer store! Chris and his staff are knowledgeable and kind, and have product that is hard to find anywhere else. The vintage section is well stocked with goodies that I thought were long gone, I picked up a Coton by the Bruery while I was there, and am super stoked. Lots of seasonal releases are stacked high, and lots of things are kept cold. There are some great beers hidden on top shelves, so stay on the lookout so they are not passed over. All in all Peabody's is a one of a kind shop with a great feel and a friendly staff. If you pass through boone you must go to Peabody's!

This is the go to beer store for anyone living in NC. I have been to Sam's Quickstop in Durham and City Beverage in Winston-Salem and this is by far my favorite of the three. The whole crew is very knowledgable and friendly and usually great me with a word on what new beers that have come in since the last time that I visited. Sixers, bombers and singles Peabodys has something for every beer palate. One of the best NC brew selections I have seen. If you are ever in the mountains this a must stop for any discerning beer drinker.

Love Peabody's! I visit every time that I am in the Boone, NC area. Peabody's has a great selection of beers from all over the USA, and North Carolina/South Carolina, and the world and at reasonable prices. Also, their wine selection from the world and the local area is really good also at reasonable prices. Peabody's has beer tastings every Tuesday of the week and wine tastings every Thursday of the week, plus Peabody's has a great selection of beer brewery glassware. Keep up the great work Peabody's. See you soon!

I was in the mountains with my wife and son and my parents. I beer mailed Chris on Friday and let him know I was planning on hitting Peabody's on Saturday. He ended up meeting me at the store(on his day off)! My family dropped me off and an hour and a half later they came to pick me up and Chris and I were still talking like two ole college buddies about; breweries, distributors, mutual BA buddies, my favorite and regular shop in Charlotte, etc. Chris is extremely passionate and knowledgable about all things beer. Unless I have missed something, Peabody's is by far the best game in town but operates like a bottle shop that is hungry to make a name for itself in an area with intense competition, like Charlotte, with the outcome being the best experience and variety in the area for the customer! My stop at Peabody's was a great experience and I will not miss it when I am in the Western part of the state! Thanks Chris!

Hit this place up while in town to celebrate 10th Wedding Anniversary on Nov. 10th. I took some time to browse around before asking for some assistance. I really was hoping to find some beer from a certain west coast brewery and was told it's not available on the east coast. I mentioned I just wanted to try any beer from them and Chris low and behold went into the back and viola, he had something for me. I was pleasantly shocked and very thankful. Chris spent the next 30 minutes talking about the beer business and recommending beers for my wife to enjoy. Chris is very passionate about craft beer and it is great spending time talking to him about all the new releases coming out this fall. He shared some good information about how the industry operates. My wife and I had a blast while we were there and look forward to many more trips in the future. We purchased Bitches Brew, Epic Imperial IPA, Backwoods Bastard, Breakfast Stout, Epic Brainless on Cherries, Southern Tier Creme Brule Stout, and Hell Hound. Needless to say it was a good stop. Great place with exceptional service and god prices and the best selection I've seen yet. Thanks Chris looking forward to meeting with you again.

Stopped by on 11/4/2011 while staying in Blowing Rock. Friends in Boone have raved about this place in the past for a while, but I'm always skeptical when it's one of the only options in the area. Well, I shouldn't have been.

I was warmly welcomed by one of the managers – Chris – who is as nice as he is knowledgable. We talked beer for a while and he showed me around made sure to point out new arrivals and some of the beer not available in Raleigh. Peabody's has everything you'd expect for a great store in NC – large selection of sixers, singles, and 22s/750s. All the year-round and seasonals from the NC brewers, US breweries (Bells, Founders, Bruery, Great Divide, Southern Tier, etc), and International (Fantome, Cantillon, Mikkeller, De Struise, Drie Fonteinen, etc).

Another great thing about Peabody's is that they've started a legit cellaring program (dark and temperature controlled storage). Vintage Expedition and Rochefort were a few pulled out for sale. Price goes up on these, but it's nothing insane. Paying for proper cellared beer is money well spent in my book. Chris asked me if there was anything cellared I was interested in and he ended up bringing me a year old Backwoods Bastard to go with the fresh bottle I purchased. Very cool.

My new favorite beer store in Western NC. They're among the elite in NC and Southeast.

I'm going to go ahead and say it: this place is better than Bruisin' Ales. As far as I'm concerned, the awesome selection here combined with the amazing customer service puts this on the map as THE place to visit for a serious beer geek in the southeast. Forget Bruisin' Ale. The service there is terrible. The staff was haughty and unwelcoming, and the guy that rang up my purchases was downright hammered. He couldn't even hit the right keys, he was so drunk. It took 15 minutes just to check out. Embarrassing, awkward, and insulting.

Peabody's is easily one of the best beer stores I've ever been to during my beer drinking career. Nothing was short of exceptional here. The place looks classy when you walk in-- really nice atmosphere, with lots of wood and wooden shelving. Offers both beer and wine. The beer selection is fantastic. Great representation of the best that's available out this way. Well organized, too-- special shelves and aisles for the more special offerings from American breweries, and a dedicated Belgian aisle organized by style. English and German breweries are well-represented, as are Scandinavian, Italian, and a few from New Zealand. Some rare growlers available from regional breweries that you won't see outside this area-- notably, the coconut porter from Catawba Valley. One of the most amazing things is the little section of aged beers. They have a dedicated, temperature controlled cellar space where they mature age-worthy brews for a year or two and then offer them for sale. I've seen some places selling aged beers before, but never one where everything has been carefully aged at proper cellar temperatures, guaranteed. I was particularly pleased to find that this place offers a decent selection of fine ciders-- not just woodchuck and the mass-produced candy stuff, but also some proper dry English cider from Aspall (my personal favorite) in several varieties. Saki also finds shelf space with a very admirable representation here. Hardcore beer geeks will be pleased to know that they get some of the real geek-tweaker beers here-- I believe we were discussing Canadian Breakfast Stout while I was there.

Anyway, what really sets this place apart is the amazingly friendly service courtesy of Chris. Chris probably spent an hour showing me around the store and talking shop, in between ringing up some customers. He even gave me pointers on good places to visit and things to do around town. When he found out I was a BA and that the Aspall Organic was my favorite cider, he gave me an amazingly generous deal on a case of the stuff. I don't think he could have been kinder, more down to earth, or more enthusiastic about what he does. I can't praise the service here highly enough. Chris told me just to let him know if there is anything I would be interested in getting, and that we could be in touch regarding more highly sought after releases. In the end, I walked out happy, with a couple boxes of beer, and a deep satisfaction for having found such an excellent beer store. If you're a beer geek passing within striking distance, don't hesitate. Drop in and see for yourself.
