I've been shopping here for years and these guys never let me down. They have the widest wine and beer selection in town with plenty of fine cheeses and chocolates. The beer section is where I spend all my money, and these guys are always keeping the newest, most sought-after beers in stock.

Staff are always friendly and helpful, offering opinions and feedback whenever needed. I've discovered many a great beer by taking their recommendations.

There are two other specialty beer stores in Boone, but the two of them together don't have the selection Peabody's has. If you're going to buy beer in Boone, buy it at Peabody's.

This place was amazing. I stopped by Peabody's on a trip through NC to visit multiple breweries and this beer store ended up being one of the highlights of my trip. The selection, the knowledge of their beer guy Chris, and the prices were much better than anything I can get in Atlanta. Not even at hop city.
They had maybe 100 beers that I can't get in Georgia and probably 400 or so different beers in total. The vintage selection was an awesome idea with beers they cellar at the perfect temperature and then bring out years later for sale. For example they had 5 years of the sierra nevada bigfoot sold as a package. They also did cool things like package the mikkeller single hop beers together. A great way to taste the different hops.
I wish this place was closer to Atlanta, it would be my beer store of choice for sure.
Also, Chris, thanks so much for the Green Flash Le Freak! It's an awesome beer from an awesome brewery.

An all-around amazing shop! I make a point to stop here every time I am in Boone, and am never disappointed. From hard to find gueuzes (3F and Cantillon) to barrel-aged treats, the selection is second to none. Everything is well-organized and clearly priced. Lots of cold six packs for the hop fix and even a nice wall of glassware. Whenever I have been in Peabody's, the staff has been extremely helpful and friendly. They have also gone above and beyond, holding a few bottles of Hopslam for me when I got shut out all over Raleigh. They also consistently get all of the available local and national limited releases, and in impressive quantities (74 cases of Hopslam!!) that you don't have to kill yourself trying to get them. In short, get there, NOW!

My favorite beer store in the Southeast! Most knowledgeable, friendly and helpful staff I have encountered, and they always seem to remember me. When I stopped by on my birthday last year, Chris was nice enough to find a bomber of something really special for me. And Benny is always very helpful at distracting my wife with wine whilst I peruse the beer. As a big Olde Hickory fan, they always seem to have plenty of what I am looking for. Hands down the best I have found in NC, and always a mandatory stop when heading up to Beech!

A buddy of mine went to Peabody's, came back and told me about it. I figured it couldn't be that good so I went the very next day. It was that good and more. This is the first time I've given all 5's in a review, and Peabody's deserves it. When you go in you first see wine, but then a walk to the back of the place leads to the largest beer selection I've ever seen. They have cases upon cases stacked on the floor. Beer on shelves and several coolers stacked full. They have a large selection of High Gravity Beers and many regional and national micros. They also have a large selection of imports. When a new seasonal comes out Peabody's is one of the first to have it. Ex: They had several of Highland's Cold Mtn. Winter Ale. Peabody's has become one of my new favorites and I will make make many more visits. When vacationing in Boone Peabody's is a must visit and is worthy of a road trip.

I travel all over the eastern US for work and peabodys has one of the best selections of beers I have seen. The staff in particular Kirby was great. They will see me every time I come up to this area and I will advise other people to go there. It is worth the trip even if it is out of the way from where you are going. People of Boone you are lucky.

Visited last week on September 19. For a Jersey guy visiting the area, Peabody's lived up to every inch of their rating here.

Good size to the place, great set-up makes it easy to shop around, labeling keeps your location and styles organized, plenty of coolers, and Gregg and Jeff's Secret Stash for some vintages.

I had excellent conversation while I was there and MrPeabodysBeard was kind enough to let me see some of the rarer selections around and certainly some of the labels I wouldn't be able to find up in Jersey. Able to scoop up a Cascade Vine and an older vintage of the Foothills Bourbon Porter and the real nice treat was a first bottling of Green Man Imperial Stout. Also grabbed some Olde Hickory and Roth Brewing.

Peabody's is a must stop for anyone traveling in or through western Carolina but especially for those visiting Asheville. The drive is pretty simple and takes about 75-90 minutes depending on traffic.

Awesome. Chris hooked it up with some great Western NC brews as well as with something out of the cellar. Can't wait to get up there this year for their annual cellar sale!

I was in the mountains with my wife and son and my parents. I beer mailed Chris on Friday and let him know I was planning on hitting Peabody's on Saturday. He ended up meeting me at the store(on his day off)! My family dropped me off and an hour and a half later they came to pick me up and Chris and I were still talking like two ole college buddies about; breweries, distributors, mutual BA buddies, my favorite and regular shop in Charlotte, etc. Chris is extremely passionate and knowledgable about all things beer. Unless I have missed something, Peabody's is by far the best game in town but operates like a bottle shop that is hungry to make a name for itself in an area with intense competition, like Charlotte, with the outcome being the best experience and variety in the area for the customer! My stop at Peabody's was a great experience and I will not miss it when I am in the Western part of the state! Thanks Chris!

This is the go to beer store for anyone living in NC. I have been to Sam's Quickstop in Durham and City Beverage in Winston-Salem and this is by far my favorite of the three. The whole crew is very knowledgable and friendly and usually great me with a word on what new beers that have come in since the last time that I visited. Sixers, bombers and singles Peabodys has something for every beer palate. One of the best NC brew selections I have seen. If you are ever in the mountains this a must stop for any discerning beer drinker.

Truly everything that you can ask of a beer store. An absolutely great staff who try virtually all of the beer on their shelves and can recommend pretty much anything to anyone whether they are a craft aficionados or are used to buying cases of light beers from the grocery store. Their selection is absolutely fantastic as well and is constantly rotating which means although your favorite beer may not be there one week, something really good is bound to have taken its spot on the shelf. They also usually have a decently stocked singles cooler and if it's not too full they will pretty much always let you break something up so you can try it first. The only thing I could possibly even begin to comment on is that their selection tends to run a bit on the expensive side, occasionally you can find the beer from some of the bigger craft breweries a little cheaper at the nearby Harris Teeter, but it's hardly surprising for a bottle shop in a tiny mountain town to cost a bit more than average for some of their stock.

My appreciation for Peabody's has only grown as i've gotten more into craft beer, it was the first bottle shop that I went too and the more I stop in places the more it seems how lucky it was that I had one of the best ones in the region just down the street. this is far and away my favorite bottle shop and i'm only sad that I haven't gotten to be a customer here longer!

I always heard good things about peabodys from friends in Boone , but this place is amazing! Selection is off the charts and staff is super friendly and knows beer. Will make this a regular stop on the way to the in-laws every year. Store is in the middle of renovation, but even with that it tops most beer shops i've been to. Plenty of local brews and most styles heavily represented. Mix packs available at the register and coolers in the back of the store are packed to the gills with good beers from a wide range of areas: east coast, west coast, imported, and locals. If you find yourself anywhere in the area, go check it out, you won't be disappointed.

BTW big thanks to the beer guy for the 3F, it was awesome.

Peabody's has a diverse selection of beer suitable to every need. The beers are arranged by style and region making it easy to narrow down your search. If you have trouble coming to a decision the staff is more than willing to help you find something to suit your taste. I've always received great service. The price range varies, beers can get pricey fast but they usually match in quality. Once a year Peabody's holds a cellar sell where you can buy rare and aged beers.

I spent the weekend in Boone, NC, and I travelled to Peabody's at the recommendation of a beer friend.

I was blown away by the service. Fellow BA "Mr. Peabody's Beard" (employee/manager?/owner?) was super knowledgeable, and he gave some killer recommendations.

I happened to stop in the day before the store received a shipment of Dark Horse. Of course, I had to come back the next day. I knew my local store was getting some as well, but the staff is that awesome that I had to go back to Peabody's (plus I had to pick up some more Seven Devils).

Excellent selection of bombers and some killer vintage brews. The store is well organized by beer type and geography. They have an outstanding selection of limited releases from Epic Brewing Company.

As a bonus, Peabody's has a killer wine selection (especially big reds). The wine selection kept my wine-loving fiancee occupied while a perused the brews.

If you are in Boone/Blowing Rock/High Country, then you must stop by Peabody's. I can not say enough about how rad the service is, especially BA Mr. Peabody's Beard.

I visited Peabody's this last Friday (10/5/2012) and had an absolutely fantastic experience. I love the organization of the store and the quality of the selection. I appreciated the time taken out by Chris to show my friend and me around as he helped us make selections. I'd say that the experience in this store is right up there with the best that I've had to date. I was glad that the store's reputation on this site was completely validated. I am looking forward to my next trip up to Boone to visit this store!

This is the way a beer store should be ran. Great staff, wonderful selection and now a growler stand. I am editing my review, because based upon what I have experienced in other stores as far as customer service and selection Peabody's is nearly impossible to beat. I would say that maybe Sams Quick Shop in Durham may have them on selection but its a city five times that of Boone, and Peabody's has stuff that they probably can't get due to distribution issues. That said this is a great place the prices are typical of an independent, but they have stuff you can't find in a grocery store, they have that stuff too, but are you really going into this store for those beers? Anyway props to the guys and I am loving the growler selection. I do apologize for the bad review that other time and I felt it was time to revise that. Also, in regard to the one bottle rule you had that pissed me off initially, at least you were letting the people have one. I went to another store that a friend told me had another difficult to find beer and had obtained and they wouldn't even sell it to me because they only sold it to friends or frequent customers. I think that store is in the process of going out of business, so what I am trying to say is you Peabody's have the perfect business model and keep em coming. I just wish we could get some of those rare Vermont and California beers in NC!

My favorite bottle shop period! Always has plenty of quality beers in stock and a nice variety of ciders for the lil' lady. GReat place to get local and NC beers also. The growler station is an awesome addition. The service is outstanding and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

I can't say enough about the place. I have been going there religiously for about a year now and have never once come out of there not excited about what tasty brew I was bringing home!

Vibe - (5) A very chill laid back vibe. As you would expect in Boone, there are also plenty of beards go around! The place holds tastings every Tuesday and special events through out the year at which you will always meet a bevy of beer geeks to discuss great brews with. Hell I even have those guys to thank for starting my first bottle share group!

Quality - (5) All Quality, All the time.

Service - (5) If it was possible to give a 6 on here for this I would. Everybody there knows there beer, loves talking about it, and will make sure you walk out of the shop with what you want. I almost always end up having a good brew conversation with somebody while i'm in there and before I know it have been there for 30 minutes. A+ +

Selection - If its allowed in NC its here. Great locals, great imports. The Belgians section is phenomenal. They even have a vintage and cellar section where you can find some great one off's and verticals (currently a 6yr vert of big foot I believe is on the shelves). You can also special order cases at a discount!

Food - I heart Cheese and they have it

Overall - I'm spoiled living up here. Every time I go off the mountain for a trip, I end up being disappointed when I go to other local shops. Nothing like buying beer from friends! And for you wine folk, my brother is a wine freak from the west coast who geeked out when he saw their wine selection!
