A light beer to beat the heat, not to twirl your mustache with. Not a whole lot to savor, but what it lacks in flavor, it makes up in refreshment. Unassuming, crisp and subtly malty. Keeps the humidity in check and your face smiling. It reminds me of home, beautiful for what it is and what it represents.

12 ounce cans - widely available in Miami - straight out the can.
Corny, wheaty, fizzy, but delivers a nice refreshing experience when enjoyed ice cold with some comida Latino.

This one pours a clear golden yellow color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.

This smells like lemon, grain, and corn.

This is super clean and drinkable, but there’s really not a lot to it. It comes in a cute little can and it’s kinda cheap at bars, so that’s something.

This is light bodied, slightly sweet, and pretty crisp.

This is really refreshing and very drinkable, but it’s also pretty bland, too.

This beer really, really surprised me. Poured into oldschool Warsteiner stemmed fluted pilsner glass. direct pour; slow poured; generated massive head that lasted throughout consumption, and clung to the glass. 10 oz can kinda sucks and isnt the cheapest beer, but it really is head and shoulders above most american lagers, let alone light lagers. would recommend. Dry finish.

From a can, pours as a clear gold with plenty of carbonation and a thin pure white head. Moderate aromas of "breakfast cereal" and "adjunct" corn&rice. Taste is really just a slight maltiness, this, with the carbonation's tang, is about all there is. Overall, inoffensive but a bit watery, and so, nothing special.

A: Pours a crystal clear pale golden yellow in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and faint bright yellow + pale yellow colored highlights. The beer has a finger tall fizzy foamy white head that quickly reduces to a handful of small patches of thin film surrounded by a medium to large sized patch of mottled very thin film covering approximately 50% of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of cereal grainy malts with rice adjuncts and a very light amount of grainy sweetness. Very light aromas of grassy hops. Light aromas of lager yeast.

T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of cereal grainy malts with rice adjuncts and a very light amount of grainy sweetness. That is followed by light flavors of lager yeast. Finally there is a very light flavor of grassy hops which impart a light amount of bitterness which fades away fairly quickly leaving a clean finish.

M: Light bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly crisp with a clean finish.

O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and overall a refreshing crisp + clean mouthfeel. Very light in flavor but I could that easily pairing with lots of foods and being really good on the beach or in the warm Caribbean weather.

I was down in Puerto Rico, and everybody was drinking this. I was at a sidewalk cafe in Viejo San Juan on a hot day, and I got some mofongo con chicharrones. That stuff is so good. They had some picnic tables. Precious wanted to get a mojito. There was a bar right there. I figured, what the heck, get a bottle of Medalla. We sat at the picnic table watching tourists and locals walk by with the sea way in the background. A guy came out of the bar carrying two cups of Medalla. He gave one to his friend. They clinked glasses and hung out drinking Medalla and chit chatting. This is what it's all about.

This is not your craft beer where you sit and cross your legs looking oh so sophisticated while you swirl it around in your mouth. This is a refreshing light beer you drink on a hot day while at the beach or grilling mahi mahi on your deck. A beautifully colored light beer that's not heavy, won't get your drink (maybe tipsy but that's it) and tastes so good going down on a hot day. I'm crying as I write this (not really).

Poured from 12oz bottle into a tumbler.

Appearance: light straw color with a clear body and a moderate effervescence. Head pours a thin layer of frothy white foam.

Smell: lightly sweet malt aroma with perhaps a bit of fruitiness. Not too bad.

Taste: honestly, as light lagers go, this is not too bad. It is very light, with just a dash of hop bitterness toward the end. There is a little bit of that macro-lager off-flavor (sometimes I think of this as "plasticy"), but it's not too strong and overall the beer isn't too bad.

Mouthfeel: very light indeed, with a moderate carbonation and somewhat fizzy texture.

Overall: again, for a light lager, this beer is not bad at all. Very refreshing in the Puerto Rican heat.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Best by 2/28/21, so a bit late on this one.

Looks okay. Very pale golden yellow body. Small white head persists until the carbonation ends, then it dies. A little lacing early on.

Standard lagery aroma.

On tasting, soft, clean, lightly malt.

Mouth between thin and medium, finish clean and faintly malty.

Overall, nothing too unpleasant here, but it's lightweight even for the style.

A: The beer is crystal clear golden yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that quickly settled down, leaving a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of adjunct and grainy malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste starts off with some light to moderate flavors of adjunct malts. While no hop flavors are detectable, there are enough hops to provide a light amount of bitterness and prevent any malty sweetness from being noticeable.
M: It feels a bit more than light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is a bit clean.
O: This lager is easy to drink and doesn't have any "off" aromas or flavors.

When in Rome...or Puerto Rico, you have to drink this beer. Now, it’s water, probably a little above Coors/Bud. But it is the only beer to drink in 90 degree sun. Otherwise you get dehydrated, tired, etc. This is San Juan Juice, big fan for a specific time and place.

Reviewing this in its style is key. Smells of light grain and minor malt. Tastes very clean, smooth and light with a crisp taste of cereal grains. Finishes excellently. Probably one of the better light beers there is.

Compañía Cervecera de Puerto Rico "Medalla Light"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, "Best Before 29AUG20 0926". Sampled on 28JUL20.

Notes via stream of consciousness: The label says it's got 98 calories per bottle so that puts it 1 calorie below both Amstel Light and Budweiser select, and 4 calories below Coors Light. It's a clear gold in color, and the quick to dwindle head that initially rises up is bright white. The aroma isn't strong but offers some grainy malt. The flavor is initially sweet from the malt, then bready, and finally it dries and disappears almost without a trace. Is there even a minimal amount of hop flavor present there in the aftertaste? I'm really not sure. I'm getting a bit of residual malt lingering now after 3 or 4 sips, and yet it remains dry. What's the alcohol content on this? Ahh, 4.4% Alc/Vol, that makes sense. In the mouth it's light-medium in body, and gently crisp. Overall it's not bad, there are no defects to it, but neither is it very inspiring. I guess as a light beer it works but to be honest, if I had my choice, I'd choose something else.

Light color, mild aroma of a typical lager, no head with reasonable carbonation. Typical lite beer with minimal taste. I was intrigued by it coming from Puerto Rico...but my interest in the beer stops there.

Poured from a minican into a pint glass. Pours straw yellow with very little head. Smells of adjunct grain, not much else, but not that bad. Tastes of plain beer, not much else. Beer is light bodied and easy drinking, good carbonation. Overall, a slightly below average beer.

The beer is poured from a 10 oz can, that's interesting & it has a big & bright white pillowy head. The carbonation is around medium I would say. The taste is clean, & the malted barley takes the stage front & center here in this presentation. The beer is a little better than I expected it to be as compared to previous scores that it has gotten on this beer review site. I'm not making out any corn syrup in the taste. I highly recommend this light lager if you've not already had it & their is a best by date on the bottom of the can, oh in 3 weeks my can will be expired. Oh well, at least now I can say that I was able to try a beer from Puerto Rico. Cheers! B-

I think Medalla Light Beer, is overrated and bitter. I prefer Coors Light, Bud Light, and of course, a Corona over this.
