12 oz. Bottle
Month Bottled: Oct 4 week 2016

Pours a pretty nice dark brown color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice small creamy light tan head, which leaves some sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, roasty, with some chocolate/toffee, nutty, with some slight vanilla. The taste is malty, roasty, chocolate/toffee, nutty, vanilla. Medium body. Overall, a tasty brew.

12oz bottle, bottled week 4 of October, 2015, poured into a Ballast Point Victory at Sea snifter glass.

The beer pours a nice dark black color, thick and opaque, hues of deep brown when hit by the light where a nice, soft, two finger head sits, bone colored, good retention and excellent lace. The aroma is nice, assertive roast, bittersweet dark chocolate, rich grains, light coffee acidity lingers well. The flavors hit the mark, plenty of dark chocolate, burnt coffee grounds, sweet malted dark barley, light stone fruit, a twinge of acidity and some ashiness that lingers. The mouthfeel is nice, medium body, a bit more carbonation than I'd like to see, but chewy and coating, very smooth and an easy finish.

Verdict: A nice simple oatmeal stout from Bristol Brewing, definitely hits the spot on a chilly winter night. Nice balance, nice flavor profiles, just a nice and easy drinking low ABV stout.

First impression:

C/C+ / AVERAGE/ABOVE AVERAGE

***
2017.08.17 2nd impression from an aged bottle:

I have a general disdain for Bristol's usually subpar beers, but this one ain't half bad for what it is. Chocolate, subdued roast, thin whoppers-like sweetness, caramel. Dark malts/schwarz malts abound.

Mouthfeel is lackluster, drifting past the usual oatmeal stout smoothness into thin weak territory. Carbonation isn't dialed in. Smooth, wet, light to medium-bodied, unrefreshing.

A drinkable stab at the style and not as abysmal as most Bristol beers I've tried, but still lackluster. I continue to struggle to understand how Bristol remains profitable in a market as competitive as Colorado's.
