The Foam was med. bubbly, light tan, dissapated at med rate, and a little lacey. The color was a medium bright amber with a nice gold highlight in the light. The smell was of a typical microbrew - very dominate in hops and a sour bitterness of lemon. The tastw was very robust and a dominate hops base with hints of wheat and bitter. Mouthfeel - medium-bodied and heavy. Drinkability - not impressed, it's a beer I won't be getting any time in the future.

12 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into a stem-tulip in me gaff in low altitude Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live. Acquired as part of a variety box at Tipsy's Liquor in Littleton, Colorado. Expectations are below average given the brewery - which has yet to impress me. Bottled the third week of April.

Served straight from the refrigerator; I like me IPAs cold. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a one finger beige colour head of fair cream and thickness, and above average retention considering the relatively high ABV. Colour is a nontransparent non-opaque caramel-copper. I'm shocked to see plainly some yeast particles floating about (in an IPA?).

Sm: Caramel, indistinct hops with pungent bittering character, clean malts, and cream. An average strength aroma.

T: Caramel and indistinct bland hops. No real floral character, no pine, no citrus, no bittering character, no nothing. Clean malts provide the bland foundation. No yeast or alcohol comes through. As boring an IPA as you'll find. Balances what few notes it has, but fails to amount to anything of note. Not complex or subtle at all. Has an okay body. Why brew this?

Mf: Smooth, wet, and anything but ballsy. Carbonation is adequate. Too thick for its lack of diverse flavour.

Dr: A drinkable but very forgettable IPA. Another meh brew from Bristol. My opinion of this brewery is steadily declining. Leave this one on the shelf. There are far better beers to be had in this price range, style, and locality.

Pours a hazy golden amber with a slight amount of head that doesn't stay around long. Aroma is of citrus hops. Taste is sweet and hits with the hoppy bitterness late. Not much else to the taste... Lack some body. Finishes clean with a nice mouthfeel.

Had on-tap at their brewery. I think average describes this brew perfectly. Poured a clear copper color with not much of a head to speak of. Spotty, but very minimal lacing from the tiny head that it didn't retain. Aroma of citrus, pine...bland. Tasted like it smelled with no additional flavor. Hoppy, but only mildly so. The flavor did not stay on my palate for more than a few seconds.

Light-bodied with light carbonation. I wasn't exactly impressed by this one...not bad, but average, and definitely not worth more than a sample.

Sampled on nitro at Freshcraft in Denver, CO.

Pours a clear golden amber/copper color with a frothy two finger pillowy white head. Very good retention, only slowly settling into a lasting ring that leaves spots of soapy lace behind.

Floral hop aroma with subtle hints of earthy pine countered by tropical and citrus fruit notes. Hints of pineapple, grapefruit and orange peel. Strong malt backbone with hints of caramel and biscuit.

Creamy medium body with a very strong malt presence that overpowers the bitterness and sweet fruit notes from the hops. Subtle dry earthy pine up front with hints of grass and sweet tropical notes. Hints of mango and orange peel but again, the malt is very prominent with hints of caramel, toffee and biscuit.

Good IPA looks, good thick honey color with a generous, soapy head. Surprisingly little aroma; some faint hoppy oily aromas of tangerines and citrus. Bitter, but not a buzzsaw. Mellow, lingering bitterness. Creamy feel, with smooth carbonation.

Presentation: 12 oz longnecks, label has a compass rose with hop cones in the background. Month and week bottled is notched, no ABV listed.

Appearance: Clear orange color, thin head fades to a light lacing.

Smell: Floral hops, a bit of malt sweetness. A bit subdued.

Taste: Hop level here really reminds me more of an APA than an IPA, but its a pretty drinkable beer. Nothing too exciting, but not bad either.

Overall impression: Meh - reasonably drinkable, but its certainly not inspiring.

A: A very clear apple cider colored beer. I poured a nickle worth or foam but it quickly dissipated to a white film cover on top.

S: Smell is is bitter like its taste such as American IPA's are. The malt is very prevalent with a caramel smell.

T: Bitter. Tastes like an IPA should.

M: I would have to say it goes down easy and is quite enjoyable.

D: Overall It is a interesting taste. One of my choices to bring out to Indiana for school.

I been enjoying some great IPA's lately, and it's not a bad rut to be stuck in. I like a big bold hop taste grab me when I reach for an IPA. The Compass IPA has a malty sweetness throughout, and is pretty mild in the hop department. It's not a bad beer, but I prefer more zing in my IPA's. My view aside, this would be a likeable pour for most.
