This is my first beer from Connecticut Valley Brewing, and it's also my first wet hop...and, I have to say, it was well worth the trip.
The brewery, which looked brand new (taproom still a few weeks away from going live) told me right away, that they mean business.
As for the beer, it has all the characteristics of a true NEIPA, especially, a nice burnt orange haze, wonderful fresh hoppy scent, casual head, decent lacing, and a very smooth, soft, lush, taste. The Cascade hops, which I was told (when I asked) were fresh picked in Litchfield, CT, and really complimented the Galaxy hops...fantastic combination.
And, hey, the can is cool, too.
Dude, if you haven't grabbed a pack of this by now, then you'll probably have to wait until next Fall, but make a mental note, and get in on this quick in 2018...you'll be glad you did.

This beers is truly exceptional, all around. It has a color reminiscent of peaches and a slightly peachy taste from the fruity body of the fresh terpenes in the wet hops. The Citra hops add to the fruity flavor while still adding the familiar bitterness of a strong IPA. It goes down almost eerily smooth, but at 7.0% it's not going to knock you out even if you chug it a bit. Unfortunately, if you haven't gotten this year, you will probably be waiting to next September.

Poured into a pint glass; the beer is a hazy bronze with a good amount of lacing and a nice one finger head. Nice aroma with a mix of light toffee and citrus. Nice moderately thick and silky mouthfeel. Excellent bold citrus hoppiness that continues through the finish and lingers for a while in the aftertaste. This beer is excellent, I hope they bring it back again.

L - the beer looks awesome, let's be real. Got dat NEIPA haze action going on, which is to be expected. A deep, resonating block of solid turbidity. Looks a bit like amateur-hour Green. Pineapple juice. Has an extremely fizzy head maybe a finger high that crackles and bubbles like crazy until it quickly dissipated into nothing. Just like Trailblazer. Everybody makes fun of TB for burning, but it does look like acid! This beer is no different. I did quite enjoy the label, if not a bit corny. The artwork and color scheme is enticing and I know I (and others I've talked to) thought this beer would taste really good based solely on the label. Not sure if it's the green, but man it looks good.

S - a pungent orange pith and grapefruit nose. Almost candy-like. Mild acidity burns the ol' nose hairs toward the end. Some bright melon - cantaloupe. Reminds me a bit of breakfast.

T - has a green, unripe melon candy punch up front. A bit grassy, a bit herbal, but the juice is there. Some pineapple and orange creamsicle. The main flavor, or at least flavor trend is prickly pear cactus, believe it or not. For those unfamiliar with it, I was out hiking the Grand Canyon and was able to stow away a few slabs in my backpack for later that night at the hotel. It was a pain in the ass to prepare, and preparation was 100% removing the spines. End result was a gooey, sticky, sappy mess that was incredibly herbaceous. Think crab grass, but it also had a sweet element. Raw, "wild" flavor. That's what I'm getting here. Feels fresh-picked. Enough juice to slap your shit with the NEIPA stick, but also some primal earthy hop bitterness to bandage up the wound. Honestly a great combination that I enjoy. It's certainly unbalanced, but in an aggressive, "in your face" kinda way. The wet hopping adds tremendous bitterness and dryness in the finish. A touch on the acidic side... dare I say it tastes a bit like burning?

F - light for the flavor and full of prickly carbonation. One of the frowny faces I throw at TB is the airy, abrasive carb and this follows the same trend. Shoulda seen that coming with the way the head fizzed like that body in Breaking Bad.

O - this beer tastes a lot like Trailblazer, but the wet hopping expands its flavor into uncharted territories. Increased bitterness for sure. Dryness all around, this will satiate any hop head. Pioneer has its issues, but this is by far the most consistent beer I've had from them (lol!). We'll have to wait until next year to find out if that's true!
